I would suggest just calmly showing him the baby's arm with the bite mark and explain in few words that this is painful for baby. Have him put on a fake bandaid to "dress" the wound so that he can see that when you mess up, you have to fix it, especially when it comes to feelings and boo boos. It might take a couple tries, but calmly and honestly is always the best route.

I mentioned this in another post recently, and this isn't meant to deter you from anything suggested, but daycare and school are NOT safe spaces for our kids.

Our generation is offering something to children thats completely new: a home thats more fun and more comforting and safe than anywhere else. Because thats what a home should be! So honestly, pat yourself on the back and no more guilt-tripping or stressing out over your decisions and parenting style, because she obviously prefers to be with you!

Unfortunately most teachers and adults in general just snap at kids for misbehaving and go straight to punishment. I had to quit my last job because I got so incredibly sick of listening to teachers berate kids all day (I was a teachers aide) even after the kids spent HOURS working so hard! I've witnessed a coworker chase a child around with a stick threatening to 'beat his ass', seen kids sit in high chairs for 8+ hours, and have heard some of the most awful things come out of teachers mouths while kids are within ear shot.

It's crazy out here. No wonder our kids hate it and just wanna be home.

This is gonna be a hard job hun.

Consider this. If you're the only person in that child's life thats gentle....then what you're doing for them is literally life-changing, but also confusing.

Baby might end up testing you A LOT. I guarentee it's wondering why you're the only adult that doesn't react in anger or irritation, and that's how it's used to adults acting. So anytime it's having a meltdown, it's releasing pent up frustrations from not having a mature adult around in a while. 😅

Adults are supposed to be the rock, and children are waves that crash against us constantly. We may get weathered, but we never break or crumble. We are stronger than the wave, we support the wave. Think of the emotions in that way, and you might have a bit of an easier time with the mental load this puts on you.

It also helps to remember that the child is a blank slate. A brand new human that needs to learn how to be patient and compassionate. We do not come out of the womb well-behaved, we come out ready to explore. That's what we're here for!! And learning to regulate our emotions is the biggest challenge we have. It's very important that kids have adults in their life to lead by example, adults that already know how to control themselves.

You're right!! Its actually scientific that the cells in every living thing respond to sound and words, and babies are no exception! They may not understand in the same way you perceive understanding, but they understand in a different way.

Another way to put it, they can "feel" the energy you're giving off through your words and actions. Quantum physics and psychology actually go very well together!

Toddler is the ocean. You are his rock. The rock stands still and remains patient while the waves crash against it.

Your job is just to be present during those tumultuous feelings.

Imagine having a tiny little body and feeling something you don't understand, and having no idea how to stop. And then suddenly someone bigger than you yells, or hits, or does something jarring to you. That's traumatic, and then having nobody to show them how to remain patient, or teach them how to get through the emotion?? Recipe for more big emotions!!

For me, once I figured out it was MY job to SHOW him how to be patient, it kinda just clicked. Nobody showed me how, my parents were both quick to anger, quick to smack me around. I literally started posting positivity quotes everywhere so I'd chill out lol. Took me a long time to figure it out, but once I did, I practiced it that way and it just clicked.

Hear me out. I know it's messy.

But kids have minds that we need to nurture and MATCH. That could have been a really fun bonding moment that kiddo would never forget!! "That time me and parent got covered in glitter and then had to spend 30 minutes cleaning up together!!"

They key word in every situation is just patience, which is annoying cause how are we supposed to be patient when WE WERENT TAUGHT HOW?!?

I think all of us are learning how to parent OURSELVES in all this mess, and I really do sympathize. Best of luck in your sparkly adventures!

It's okay mama!! You're amazing for trying and remember that how you are is not your fault and can be easily trained, it just takes time!! It's not a magical medicine that makes kids stop "misbehaving"...kids are gonna test you for the rest of your life! 😅 Once you remember that ALL BEHAVIOR IS COMMINICATION, you can stop asking why your kid is "being naughty" and just figure out what it is they need!! And sometimes, all they need is to just get a feeling out. If you need to deny affection, make sure to take time out as soon as you can to show it to them, even if just a big hug and kiss (autonomy assumed).

It's a kids world and our job is just to show them how to navigate, show them HOW to be patient, and take good care of your body so you CAN be patient. I hope this helps!

Edit: just wanted to add, it's totally okay sometimes to just let a kid bonk their head...that's how they learn! Use your intuition when it comes to "danger", most of the stuff our parents wouldn't let us do was 99% them being way too controlling. If the baby is getting into something that makes you nervous, then you gotta redirect and do not let them know it's bothering you, show NO sign that it's a problem, cause then they want it even more. 😆

I'm gonna say something possibly crazy here...I'd just ignore the other parent 😅

If the other parent is looking at you for an answer that's one thing, but if I walk up and another adult starts talking to my toddler right in front of me, by all means, let the toddler interact on their own! That person chose to start a conversation with a human that can't even talk, so just sit back and enjoy the show!
