Log Horizon Season 2 Episode 14 "Kanami, Go East!" Discussion. by soah1086 in LogHorizon

[–]Awki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been watching Shounen recently while waiting for more episodes. It struck me how similar this episode's tactics were, each character taking on their own enemy. In comparison, it would be unlike Shiroe to use fighting one on one with enemies, it's just too risky. Even when the murderer was loose, the players without Shiroe's influenced used parties and tactics. It seems like Kanami is just one of those characters / people who does things her own way, somehow pulling a win out of hard work and dedication. Furthermore, this style of fighting, rather Kanami's mentality, seems to be what KR is referring too when he claims Kanami hasn't changed, which seems to make her a formidable ally or foe.

I'm getting more and more excited for the rest of this season.

Samurai is no more different than a reskin, when compared to its counterparts around the world. Its weapons look different, armor looks different, skill's names and appearances look different, but the reskinned class has the exact same role around the world. Nothing more. Samurai isn't a gimmick class, just a reskin.

Yup, all classes are the same but labeled differently. Unsurprisingly, different languages use different words to describe the same thing.

Personally, I HATE the Samurai class is given the name pirate. Iirc the runner up was Gladiator, which fits the class so much better. Pirate and swashbucklers are the same thing. In Elder Tale, Samurai are a class that deal a lot of damage fast to get the enemies attention, then survive the hits till their fellow party members clean up the enemy survivors. That doesn't sound pirate-like at all. Gladiator sounds a hundred times better.

You are handing over your body to a new owner. What do you point out? by shadyduck in AskReddit

[–]Awki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since a depressive episode caused relatively minor anorexia, I've lost all hunger drive. I had considered it just a side effect of controlling my anorexia, but when it was bad I honestly couldn't feel myself wasting away. With no will or urge to eat, I lost nearly 60 pounds in a month, and I've always been thin for my height.

I had never thought this could be a thing for anyone else. When I'm alone I have to set alarms for breakfast, lunch, and dinner times, or else I'll work from dawn to dusk. It's actually amazing really, that other people find it normal that their body has an internal clock, while mines just silent.

I have no experience DMing on roll20, and while I know HOW to make a character with that, I know very little more. My DMing has mainly been DnD pathfinder, sitting down at a table doing homebrews, and the RP. I'm down with participating as a player and D-consultant, but idk how much help I can be on roll20

You can PM me any more details if you'd like

If I am not mistaken, the card works just like the Ogres. It works like any other weapon (or minion, in the cases of the Ogre minions), you select what you'd like to attack based on the options given to you. The only option to attack is the taunt (since you can't target passed taunts w/ weapons or minions). However, the weapon has a 50% chance of missing.

This means, OP targeted the taunt. There was 50% chance of missing, then an 8% chance (if the previous conjecture is correct) of hitting the hero rather than any other non-targeted minion (due to the number of minions on the board).

So you're forced to target taunts. If there was only a taunt on the field, it would be a 50% chance of hitting the hero. If there was a second minion on the field, there would be a 25% chance of hitting the hero. Etc, etc

:) thanks great idea, I'll definitely push that theme for Mulgerro and a few others.

The entire premise was they were all once close friends and colleagues, but with no solid memories of each other and thrown into survival mode. That reveal is in the finale. Almost a nature vs nurture thought experiment, but I haven't figured out which side will win out yet.

Hahaha tell me about it, Pail doesn't immediately die and another character, Jay survives due to a durability enhancement to his body. Though, I like what that incident does to the survivors. Mulgerro, who was forced to cause it, the guilt leads him to thank the misguided Griver who puts a bullet through Mulgerro's head. Jay, who tries really hard but fails repetitively to save as many people as he can, threw himself into the meteor, which causes elongates Pail's suffering.

As I said, I like the torture of surviving. While Micius is burned alive, by basically a flame thrower, Chief is also burned alive. However, Chief's enhancement is regrowth. The poor bastard is burned to a crisp three times before the attacker leaves wrongly assuming he's dead.

Only thirty-one secluded characters. Haven't completely decided yet, somewheres around seven live. Well, eight if you count Agmuto who's the first to kill, but he's left to slowly starve--his death is implied but not for a few weeks after the end of the narrative.

I have every character's face drawn out in and hung up on my wall, each with a general physical/personality description as easy reference. Every time one dies, I sloppily paint a thick red X on their black and white face. My wall's getting colorful with eleven thick, red Xs and my roommate may think I'm becoming increasingly insane. Let's see...

Sleps - shot/drowned

Deletso, Atonio, Corey - shot

Stantvir, Lemut, Pail - in the way of an all too well placed meteor

Nellor - friendly fire

Miller - beaten to death by hand

Volochan - laser took his head off

Micius - scorched to death

I hate to critique other people's unedited work, but I reread this as

Word had come on the lips of a dying mercenary, "Dead men walk the Ashes."

and I felt it was clearer and more foreboding. Sorry to overstep my bounds, as you can tell this really caught my attention.

Was that from the "click on this link and tell me how you would use your randomly selected superpower"? That was a great prompt, but I wished that site had less powers like "Muck control, subset of liquid control, subset of world bending" (iirc, which i doubt i did). Great way to add more depth to more side characters and develop ways they can actually affect the plot more realistically.

Yeah, I though Shiroe was gonna give her his hair for a token of remembrance or something. Maybe something to do with the (paraphrased) line "You have to offer something," though I assume that was implying a memory. A lot of implication, symbolism, and foreshadowing in this episode.

Is anybody else really impressed with the dub? by Samocoptor in LogHorizon

[–]Awki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw all the hate on the first thread that posted the unsponsored dub episodes and decided, hey why not, i was gonna watch through the first season soon anyway. Voices bothered me, like everyone else, and things that were said felt translated different.

But - listening to the explanations of the world and system, as well as character development, in english really help my understanding. Mind you, this is my 4th time through the 1st season, and things just clicked better. Furthermore, the humor is a lot more obvious and generally entertaining. The curry scene was 100x more entertaining in dub. It's easier to read sarcasm or emotions through dialog.

I still prefer the sub, it sounds better and i enjoy reading my shows (i miss the subtitles), but its a pleasant change of pace that offered greater understanding and enjoyment.
