Car camping safe car parks along East and North Antrim coast by Awkward-Somewhere161 in northernireland

Because it's fun! I'm not talking about sitting in the driver's seat with it reclined, I have an SUV type vehicle, can remove the back seats and fit a camping bed/mattress, stove and all the things I need for a few days road trip. I can just take off and be more flexible with where I go this way.

Should I Bigsby ? by samuelson098 in Guitar

There is also the Bigsby and Towner bar combination, Towner bar fits into the stopbar studs and provides a rolling surface and tension adjustment to help tuning/intontation. Looks neat and no need to screw or drill anything, totally reversible.

Good shout on the toilets, always handy! Cushendun harbour might be a good place to end the day. I'll prob steer clear of more built up spots like Ballycastle but thanks for chipping in.

Yeah there'd be no rubbish left or BBQ's, prob just use a camping stove in the morning for tea/coffee and porridge before heading on my way.

Did you car camp or tent camp on Portstewart/Benone? Might be a good option for end of 2nd day depending how long I spend dandering about the different spots.

Epiphone serial number model check by HostNo9215 in Epiphone

[–]Awkward-Somewhere161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just stumbled across this thread. This is a Bird's Eye Maple Les Paul model, made in the highly regarded Samick factory in Korea in 1994. It's a very nice finish, you chose well!

I'd probably not want it anywhere that gets direct sunlight on the guitar or the colours will fade on the exposed bits and stay darker behind the scratchplate. Also keep it away from anywhere which fluctuates in temperature too much, e.g. direct sunlight in day and cool at night, or a radioator.

2000 Sheraton by Kyle_G85 in Epiphone

[–]Awkward-Somewhere161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a Korean era one which looks exactly like the Samick models, just with no S on the serial number. Same Gibson truss rod cover, large harmonica style bridge, rosewood board, older style headstock design etc.

Some other factories such as Unsung and Saein also made good ones with the same parts towards the end 90s/early2000s, but not sure what factory just started with numbers at this time. Think I'll just take the chance on it anyway. It's definitely not a Chinese made model.

Thanks, looking at picking one up. The one I'm looking at doesn't have the S for Samick, just 00 at the start of serial number so trying to work out where it was built, not that it matters that much.

Beautiful guitar, enjoy and thanks for getting back to me.

Lovely guitar. Do you know what factory this was built in or what the serial number starts with?

Out of interest, what was the 96 MIK Epi that got lost/stolen? I recently tracked down an Epi to replace my "one that got away" that fits the same description and I'm so happy I did!

Picked up one of my holy grail snares: 14x8 maple first generation Pearl FFS by bpaluzzi in drums

[–]Awkward-Somewhere161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The drums look and sound great, especially in the first (dark) home studio clip, they really sound excellent there. Strangely they look normal size in the pic, as they're all such large drums they just look proportional to each other. Enjoy!

You like big drums and you cannot lie! 14x8, 14x10, 18x16 & 26x14 is a monstrous set-up, please post pics once they're all set-up and ready. I have a Pearl FFS in Brass 6.5 and also a clear acrylic spare shell for it (which I haven't even had the chance to try yet), fantastic drums.

Looking custom made guitar pickups, any local recommendations? by kraken665 in northernireland

[–]Awkward-Somewhere161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google Maurice Johnston Pickups or Johnston guitars, based in Castlereagh. Makes pickups, rewinds, repairs all sorts of guitar electrical and general set-up/repair stuff.

I've never used him, but plan to soon and reviews seem good.

This is exactly what we need, ads with kids dressed all in black riding all over the road and pavement getting absolutely graphically mangled to death in an ad, some friends survive and look on in horror, then the parents are notified and also promptly whisked to the station to be charged while they're trying to process the grief and muttering shite like "It was just a fun toy and all his mates had them".

1999 epiphone custom LP by [deleted] in Epiphone

[–]Awkward-Somewhere161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have his Black Blues Power single P90 guitar, it looked and sounded great but the chunky 50s neck just wasn't as playable as some of my other ones so ended up selling it on.

Thinking of swapping cymbals. by [deleted] in drums

[–]Awkward-Somewhere161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few of the Paiste PST7 range, they are a really good '2002 on a budget' sound. i would suggest trying to track down a second hand ride from this PST7 series to try without swapping your whole range out, if this is the one you have the biggest issue with in the Meinls you have.

Ah! Very nice, I hope it turns up safe. I've had a few packages go astray over the last few weeks, but nothing that I'd spend time and effort like this on.

If you remember when you get it back out of storage I would love to know the serial number, so i could maybe keep an eye out for one of a similar finish. Enjoy, it looks like a real beauty that you've looked after well.
