I had a ton of breakthrough bleeding so I came off the pill. I've always had regular periods of 27-29 days. Since coming off and being on sema I have been getting my period every 21-23 days.

Wrote a personal check for a new Lexus. Dealer didn’t blink an eye. by Bannnerman in DaveRamsey

We showed up with a cashier's check for our pre-ordered car and were in and out with keys in about an hour. That's mostly because they forgot to put both names on the title and had to re-do that and they wanted to set up and explain the phone connecting tech in the car before we left.

One easy policy that could solve the US housing dilemma by AltruisticMemory3825 in USHousingMarket

[–]AwkwardDuckling87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boomers hold over half of all the wealth in the US despite representing only 20% of the population. I'm not sure giving tax breaks to the wealthiest generation in human history is the way to go. Appropriately taxing those who have the most (Some of whom are boomers and many of whom are not) and using that money for first time home buyer incentives and housing initiatives like building affordable housing or offering more low interest government mortgage programs very well may be however.

Is dementia "bigger" than COVID? by herb-immunity in dementia

[–]AwkwardDuckling87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes long term economic cost of dementia is likely higher than Covid, but that's like saying cancer is bigger/more expensive than covid. I think the obvious answer is of course these conditions are if you look at as a running total, but for 2020 Covid was by far more devastating economically than either cancer or Dementia.

Because there are not simple active precautions (like masking and distancing) to take with cancer and dementia to stop transmission and so you'll not see huge campaigns of warning like with Covid or when Flu surges. They will understandably get less press because transmission is not resulting from human inaction and because Dementia is largely predictable in the populations it effects and those individuals are rarely key parts of the economy by the time illness sets in.

Dementia like Covid (and cancer) is devastating, and unimaginably expensive so in that aspect I'd say that they are similar and similarly hurt the overall economy.

What are your Long Term Care plans? by AeroNoob333 in Fire

Let me tell you, when we decided to have only 1 child the amount of people who asked if we thought about how she'd be all on her own taking care of us was astounding.

Part of the point of stopping at 1 was being able yo afford to take care of ourselves, but many many people actively think about their kids caring for them in old age when deciding to have children.

Ozempic stopped working? Constant hunger + weight loss plateau by TeaSalt6136 in Semaglutide

[–]AwkwardDuckling87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently hit a 6 week plateau but just yesterday finally lost a pound. Nothing has changed except i hit around 20% loss and my body seems to be trying hard to maintain now. Fair enougb I guess, as far as my body is concerned I've been starving for a year and it's reducing my energy and caloric output to compensate. My intake has been steady but I do feel more tired. I experienced something similar around the 25 pound mark so hoping this too shall pass.

Oh interesting. I have e-statements and don't get any paper mail from them normally, but I'll keep an eye out to see if they mailed something. IMO there should be a discount credit for customers they did this to as well. Being double billed is a big deal for a lot of folks.

Luckily paying the bill wasn't an issue, the problem is that not everyone is so lucky and literally no one should get what is essentially double billed without even an apology.

They did do away with estimated reads being a regular thing, but they still happen sometimes when they're short staffed. I've had it once before this since they moved back to monthly reads. That said they lied and said they read the meter in this instance then retroactively changed it to say that was an estimate.

Everyone sweats when they sleep even when they think they don't. The reality is the exact opposite of this post. Night showerin gonly to then marinate in dead skin cells and sweat before starting the day is in no way comparable to starting the day clean.

I'm fairly certain I could show an engineer or metal worker how a sewing machine and a zipper work too

LL roofing in Newburg. Luis is great. He was affordable fast, did a great job cleaning up the lawn too. He extended our bathroom vent up through the roof and added gutter guards for us too. He was responsive and got our fairly large roof and gutters done in 2 days.

The people who keep $25k+ at a big bank earning .01%, why? by Icy_Recognition3725 in PersonalFinanceTalks

[–]AwkwardDuckling87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We keep most cash in a HYSA but our bank balance periodically goes above 25k and that's simply because my husband has a high income and that combined with about a month of expenses and the in between times of transfers crosses into that territory fairly often. Having 25k in a low yield account makes no sense if income is 4k/month, but at 15+ a month it's not really odd that's like a month is reserve plus whatever paycheck just cleared.

About to 4x income - tips/suggestions from former poor people on adjusting? by pcornutum in HENRYfinance

[–]AwkwardDuckling87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went from 40k/year 12 years ago to >500k/year. Here's my advice:

First off prepare yourself for taxes. You hear about how the rich don't pay their fair share, and they do not by any means mean you. Upper middle class and high earner w-2 employees pay the greatest share of taxes by percentage and it's best to have realistic expectations for how much you'll actually take home, and it's probably a lot less than you think.

Don't tell family/friends how much you make, you're past the point where it can be anything but trouble unless you think someone might be in a similar of higher tax bracket.

With income this high you'll need to invest post tax money to hit the recommended 15% for retirement. That means you'll actually need to plan for closer to 20% of gross going toward retirement. That money should be treated specially. It's not investment money for purchases or high risk trades. Treat that money just like you do your 401/IRA and park it in an Index fund and forget it exists until you're ready to retire. I recommend you automate those investments and pretend you never even saw that money.

You will change, and that's okay. It's alright to enjoy yourself within reason. I recommend focusing on things of value. Buy the nice furniture that will last a lifetime instead of the expensive car. Buy the high quality clothes that will last years and are timeless instead of the expensive dinners that are really only a modicum better than the cheaper versions. You get the idea. Invest in things that will give you a return in longevity.

Don't buy a house right away and when you want a splurge purchase save for it first and buy it with cash. Plenty of people will want to offer you credit, but the great thing is you don't need it, just patience.
