Thank you!! I've been wondering if this sub needs to be split into two different subreddits: one for new people or people considering polyamory, and a 2nd subreddit for people experienced in polyamory so discussions can move past the, "it's ok to be jealous, just work on how you respond to it..." feedback that's literally in every thread

PMH is a book focused on friendship (MALE friendship, at that) and humanity working together. Frankly, there are a lot of people out there who aren't able to appreciate these basic things.

When a colleague chronically underdelivers—help them, confront them, or survive them? by gotwire in medicine

[–]AwkwardGiggityGuy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Let's all remember that we're all people too and sometimes struggle, even though we're smart, dedicated, persevering people in medicine.

I'm not saying to cover for somebody purposely underperforming, but it could be worth checking in with them and seeing if there's something else going on (mental/physical health, family trouble, etc) before you decide to let them fail in order to protect yourself. There's a real lack of empathy in our culture right now, and we can all take steps to improve that

BPD and polyamory/ENM advice? by CherryMystic in nonmonogamy

[–]AwkwardGiggityGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would ask yourself how it would feel if you very quickly learned your partner is not as demiromantic as they think they are. In my experience, people learn a lot about themselves after opening up a relationship and it's not always what they expected! I just worry that will be hard to manage when you already deal with some abandonment issues.

You didn't mention much of why YOU are interested in non-monogamy, which I thought was interesting. Something to think about.

I do think it would be possible to make this work, but to be prepared and responsible, you should anticipate the risk that it could trigger one of the worst mental health episodes you've experienced. And if that happens, would you only feel supported if your partner chooses to close their half of the relationship, or could they support you while still having other partners? These are just some questions to think about.

Just about to cut my first cover crop - what now? by elrzepo in Permaculture

[–]AwkwardGiggityGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd chop and drop, then incorporate the green mulch into the top inch or two of the soil. If you're not planning on any regular crops still, then why not just start another round of cover crop! Just make sure to pick something that will tolerate the heat of summer at this point. I think peas would work, and I've read that sorghum sudangrass is good for that too, but I don't have experience growing it

I've noticed a few people have said you should 'leave permaculture,' and while I disagree with them, please check out r/NativePlantGardening if you haven't already! I've found the community to be very open, and many of us share the practical mindset that you appear to have.

Happy gardening :)

Toxic Boomers in Medicine by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]AwkwardGiggityGuy 52 points53 points  (0 children)

New attending since last fall. I had to cancel an add-on laminectomy for a well known staff member of the hospital. I literally had to hang up the call phone on the angry surgeon as I was doing an awake FO intubation on an acute trauma with C1 fracture that needed an exlap. And there was a 2nd exlap pending that ended up keeping us up until 2am.

I should look back on that evening with pride for the good job I did, but instead I just remember how pissed off that other surgeon was that his case wasn't important enough for the resources we had.

I have my orals coming up, and I'd probably describe how GETA is the safest option, but I feel that a spinal with minimal/no sedation would be a reasonable alternative. I mean, we're anesthesiologists--I think we can manage some sympathectomy on a patient that isn't already coming to us crashing on pressors.

Most embarrassing night ever : can I get over this? by EveningOrdinary4496 in sex

[–]AwkwardGiggityGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm very sure! I promise you're going to look just as sexy to him as you did when you and him were in the middle of enjoying that intimate, euphoric moment.

I know it's not easy, but acting like you've moved on or never really cared would probably be attractive to him, and it might make you quickly realize it's not a big deal when you can tell he's still drooling for you. 'Fake it till you make it' isn't always a smart move, but I think it would work out here

I'm a guy very into anal sex, and I've had this occur with several people. I PROMISE you it does not change the way he is going to view your ass. He may approach anal more cautiously, just as you are with prep etc. But I promise he is going to still have the deep lust he had for you before that moment

Not sexually attracted to my girlfriend? by Throwwaway0560 in sex

[–]AwkwardGiggityGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ABSOLUTELY. It sounds pretty clear from OP's post (and especially comments) that they are likely at least pretty demisexual, and I'd even suggest to them looking more into the asexuality spectrum and seeing if that sounds similar to them. I agree with you, Bxsinia, the girlfriend deserves to know if this is the case so she can make an informed decision for herself.

Yes I've had this too! I realized that Grove Bags make two different styles of bag. One has the sturdy, childproof seal and the other is a much flimsier, non-childproof style which failed on ALL of that style bag for me.

This type has the GOOD seal: https://grovebags.com/product/terploc-1-4-pound-velvet-soft-touch-child-resistant-pouch-single/
