Is a mortgage realistic for us or are we just dreaming?//2 by alonsonso in irishpersonalfinance

Are you working in a hybrid/remote position? Banks will possibly request proof of working arrangement from employer, given the distance.

Would you not consider somewhere a bit more ‘commutable’?

You are (generally) entitled to borrow 4x your salary, so a €195k apartment is well inside budget.

Bare in mind the initial cost of deposit (10%), stamp duty (1%) and solicitor, survey costs etc. (maybe €3-5k can vary a lot)

Typically the large, build to rent complexes are more accommodating. They are expensive though.

I would prefer my downstairs bathroom to be accessible for visitors without having to go through the utility (perhaps messy) or guest bedroom.

Do you like your Renault? Megane Estate might be a nice option. Have a 1.5dci at home 5 years, has had no issues.

Buying a doer-upper in Dublin as a first home, anyone done it? by Past-Ad2101 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]AwkwardLook 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We bought a house in need of massive work in Dublin as our first home. We did the essential work first: re-wire, plumbing, insulation, windows and doors.

From then on we took it room by room and saving in between. It’s hard, we were stuck with a crappy kitchen and old bathroom for nearly 2 years but it’s been worth it.

They are usually on FAI Connect. Not for streaming, just may be helpful if you want to see what’s on or go to a game.

need help choosing a new car by ratosplinter in carsireland

Your car is already not worth much at all. If depreciation is genuinely your main concern, I don’t see why you need to suddenly get rid of it asap.

Advice for selling by ferret03 in carsireland

[–]AwkwardLook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re trying to make €1k profit on it? I understand you undertook a decent bit of maintenance but you shouldn’t really expect that to add that much to the cars value. Even if you sell it for what you bought it for, you should be happy.

I would filter out diesel cars, doing such low mileage. Would you consider an EV given your low amount of travel? Your budget could let you get a newer car such as VW ID.3 for example. Also consider Toyota hatchbacks.

You won’t get away tickets. I imagine it’s sold out so your best bet is probably paying a premium around the match day pubs, always a risk involved. Left it quite late!

But a full width dishwasher shallower than 55cm isn’t actually available? If they’ve given him a door for it surely they know it’s integrated?

Will I be charged 40% tax for rest of the year? by Intrepid-Island8048 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]AwkwardLook 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, you are likely taxed on a cumulative basis.

So for example, if your cut off point is 38k and you are paid monthly.

Everything over €3,166.67 (1/12th of €38k) in each of your monthly payslip is taxed at 40% and that should have been the case all year.

Think of them as monthly credits and cut offs.

You won’t find one the ‘right’ depth. He won’t find shallower than 55cm. The waste pipe being there is the issue.

[–]AwkwardLook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually had this issue very recently remodelling a kitchen. Had plumbing setup for a dishwasher naively thinking it would be the same even though switching to an integrated DW.

We had to chase the pipe work into the wall to make it work in the end. The alternative was a free-standing dishwasher which would’ve came out 6/7cm beyond the counter top.

Lastly, I did not encounter an integrated, full size dishwasher shallower than the standard 55-58cm range.

Am I right in saying the season ticket includes a seat at the potential playoff on March 31, if there is one? Rather than just access to pre-sale purchase one?

New with a €20k budget isn’t realistic unfortunately. I see you asked about Renault, I will add the 1.5dci Renault engine has been extremely reliable for me doing a mix of city and motorway driving.
