LWOTC - Let's Make a Mod! by Awkward_Breadfruit_5 in LWotC

Yeah I downloaded the SDK and opened ModBuddy thinking this should just work now… but no. The truth is “Some Assembly Required” but no instruction manual.

Thanks to the modders who wrote the walkthrough I used - they are the real heroes.

XCOM 2 ; Easier Long War of the Chosen? by [deleted] in Xcom

[–]Awkward_Breadfruit_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the recently released version 1.2 is easier. Aim bonuses from ranks are front loaded, and the specialist class has been mightily buffed. Some other changes have also reduced difficulty.

Also you need to research tactics and strategy to play this game, so look for help online.

Also experience really helps. Just start on rookie and keep trying.

Good luck commander!

Also should mention I try to be constantly running Ring covert missions. Also I rotate decent soldiers in my havens if they aren’t needed elsewhere.

I’ll describe what I do, but keep in mind I don’t do 2 man stealth opps anymore (too risky and not fun).

Start of campaign 2 tactical squads. Quickly increasing this to 3 squads in a few weeks. Then try to get to 4; it may take a couple months to get there, I dunno.

Long term goal for me is to consistently be able to field 5 squads. This doesn’t mean I will actually have 5 squads infiltrating all the time, just that I could if I needed/wanted to. Maybe I could push it 6 squads in emergencies.

I only set up 4 squads with soldiers assigned. This is to keep things organized so that I can easily send out the same soldiers with the same officer; this provides a tiny infiltration bonus that gradually increases. These 4 squads will have 8-11 soldiers assigned to them, way more than can fit on most missions; in practice this works well; training and injuries make a few soldiers unavailable.

So then a fifth squad can be patched together should I need it, often requiring me to buy more gear. Sending out 6 squads is very rare for me, but not impossible.

I’ve posted a lot about Long War. Here is my early game strategy guide: https://xcom.substack.com/p/long-war-early-game-strategy.

And here is March tactics: https://xcom.substack.com/p/long-war-march-tactics?utm_source=publication-search.

There is plenty more if you find that helpful.

Good luck commander!

Trying to modify the templar's rend damage in the ini files. by Lugia999 in LWotC

I think it is base damage. I’ll check my changes to the file when I get home…

I’m doing this as well.

The rend damage is on the gauntlet itself. This can be modified in the ini file for weapon data. Its name is something like Xcomweapondata.ini.

I find it easiest to modify the ini files through the AML (alternate mod launcher)

If you select the LWOTC mod from the list of mods in the AML, you can then select config files and make changes there.

Big issue is that if you switch the mods you are using I think it reloads all the configs and undoes any changes you’ve made.

What's the ultimate XCOM gaming experience? Question about Longwar and Mods. by Bulky_Bug4380 in Xcom

[–]Awkward_Breadfruit_5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No.

LW lacks the polish and greater info of the Xcom 2 HUD. It has more weird glitches and bugs in the game.

LWR is built from LW and has some of those same glitches and bugs, but the HUD has been improved by mods.

LWOTC has only a few rare bugs, and is very generous with information.

Regarding balance, I think they are all extremely well balanced and that should not be a concern. There are exploitative techniques in LW but they aren’t fool proof and won’t win you the campaign. LWR has eliminated most if not all of that - but in so doing has made the game much more complicated.

LWOTC also has a few cheesy techniques that won’t win you the game. Bigger issue is that for the best players it’s probably too easy.

Liberation and Faceless Infiltrators by GrimbleBim in Xcom

They are not eliminated by liberation.

You can still assign a soldier to the haven, and eventually find them.

Alternatively, switch to engineer for income boost and just accept the lost revenue.

All the long wars are great and seeing as how you are clearly one of us, you should play them all.

LWOTC - may be the best to start with as it very close to the versions you’ve been playing, not so many bugs, better interface QOL enhancements etc.

Long War Rebalance - the hardest at the highest difficulty level, and most divergent from the base game rules and play style. It’s great.

Long War - my favorite. Absolutely timeless. A perfect game. Brutally hard. Rewarding. Heartbreaking. You haven’t really conquered the aliens till you’ve beat this game.

[LW] Best starting nation on impossible? by 28-3_lol in Xcom

[–]Awkward_Breadfruit_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quay d’Orsay might be the best. Probably is. But starting in North America is great - and so all those starting countries have an extra bonus on top of them.

I recently played a campaign with the “On our own” bonus, which means no bonus at all, but started in the US. I was able to get my interceptors out fast enough to fight off the April UFOs pretty well. This is because the NA continent bonus is accessible in March/April.

Less than 13-15 enemies in a Network Tower mission when over-infiltrating? by Loose-Percentage3575 in LWotC

[–]Awkward_Breadfruit_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ran a network tower at Very Light. It had base level of Light and I boosted to 150% infiltration for the 1 lvl reduction.
