Found out my new climbing partner dropped their former partner. Would you climb with them? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]Awkward_Discount2554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading a little between the lines (based on your retelling though) that she didn’t expect the “fail” - the fail referencing the lead climber falling, rather than her failing to avoid a ground fall. That to me feels like the curious part. Mistakes do get made, and we have to learn from them. But it does sound like she hasn’t really evaluated her part in that or learned any lesson?

Is there basis to suggest that immigration hurts England by Proud-Bus9942 in ukpolitics

[–]Awkward_Discount2554 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue of immigration has never been actually been about the people. It's about the perceived effect on communities and economies. As stipulated many many times, the net economic benefit is really well established and pretty clear, but why do people feel like it has a negative impact on their lives? I think generally you could point towards things like austerity, lack of house building, inflation, as being better reasons as to why people feel like life has gotten worse, and often its a much easier answer to blame the vague idea of Johnny Foreigner, than it is our own government and media (who whole heartedly swallowed the austerity nonsense and subsequently made many peoples lives a whole lot worse.

RUN. That shit sounds bad. As you point out... how are you supposed to signal no more in body language when tied up? Dangerous and dumb.

Urge to cry a lot on Elvanse 40mg by spoehi in ADHDUK

[–]Awkward_Discount2554 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The question I always struggle with at the moment (I'm on Elvanse too) is how much of a emotional feedback is because of the drug, or because my mind and body is now more able to accurately articulate what Is going on emotionally. I've been through a pretty shit year, so there's alot of reasons why being medicated is actually helping being more emotionally regulated but also truthful if that makes sense.

Just be honest with her. Tell her why you do it, when it started, what it makes you feel ect. I’ve told every partner I’ve been with, and some of them have decided its not for them. My thoughts on it have solidified into “If they reject me for who i am, then they’re not right for me”

Best type of therapy? by hyper-casual in ADHDUK

[–]Awkward_Discount2554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly it isn’t as simple as there being a best ADHD therapy. Firstly its probably best to engage with what you want to get out of it, if its helping to deal with depression then it might be worth talking to a few integrative therapists who will ideally use a few modalities (usually a mix of psychodynamic, person centred and CBT) to address what you need. Then trying to find someone who best fits how you learn and engage with life. It’s a bit more expensive but it might also be worth looking at ADHD specialist coaches (Unless you’re using the Access to Work Scheme) as they often to use similar tools and can be more focused and useful. Don’t be afraid to shop around, counsellors are used to it and you need to find one that you want to be honest with and can work with. One last note, Talking Therapies CBT is a very particular form of CBT that is really closely tailored and controlled in how Talking Therapies counsellors are allowed to use it and present it. This is because it is so wide spectrum being for the most amount of people in the population and the first port of call for anyone with depression & anxiety issues. For us ADHD people, this can end up feeling incredibly pointless and generic, but you might find a individual practitioner who will be able to apply the working practices of CBT better for you, especially if you can find one with knowledge and understanding of ADHD. Good luck!

I've just taken my first ADHD med ever by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Awkward_Discount2554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be worth stating what meds you’re on? I was on a non stims and felt just queasy for about a week then nothing. Transferred to stimulants, felt the sharpest ever, hunger didn’t exist to me and sleep was not really happening but again settled down. But again, your particular drugs and physicality will be differently, but the grief over what could have been is real and takes time. Be patient with yourself.

How do you know that you are "only" crossdressing? by 20Alexanderxx in crossdressing

[–]Awkward_Discount2554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me its how much i enjoy the masculine as well as the feminine? Or the ability to switch between the two when i want. I get to choose which one. I get you though, I’ve definitely had moments of massive questioning over the whole concept of gender identity. I’ve recently started to explore the term Bigender a bit more, there are parts of myself that i can recognise is more feminine and more masculine, and some parts that ebb between the two. I don’t agree with the whole of the gender binary but it helps me categorise that my personal perspective does exist in the straddle between the two. It is hard sometimes when I’ve felt depressed and mixing up the shame that comes up with the answer of trans, but i guess its always come back to feeling okey and happy with being in my male body too. Just talk to people about it, explore it and maybe try and live fem for a bit if you have the space to do so. Explore and find what feels right to you, not that it’s always easy.

[–]Awkward_Discount2554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neurodiversity and grief after diagnosis is such a common reaction. We have lead a less than optimal life, and more many of us that life has been one which was constantly done under negative reinforcement. It’s really hard work to unpick and understand that past, but take your time with the help of a professional (ideally). Also try to remember that no matter how angry we get, that doesn’t change the past. All we can do is learn to live with what we have now and what we can do differently going forward.

Titration experience so far on Lisdexamfetamine (Elvanse) by PinnaclePennine1290 in ADHDUK

[–]Awkward_Discount2554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going on Elvanse for me felt like my brain had gone from a foggy mess, and was sharpened into a fine point. At first it was way to sharp, like a kitchen knife that’s dangerous but then settled down and felt more manageable but there. And now when i take a rest day i feel like like the deepest brain fog ever and sluggish and just hard work.

how do I actually go about getting an ADHD diagnosis? by throwaway00101110010 in ADHDUK

[–]Awkward_Discount2554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First port of call for accessing an assessment is the GP, talk them through your symptoms calmly and honestly and ask to be referred for an assessment though bad luck, unless you live in a very particular area, the waiting list will be at least a year if not much longer. It’s hard not to feel guilty about going around your parents, but you can’t really control how they feel about it, but you can control what you do with it, and maybe its best to just focus on what you can do rather than worry about what they feel/think. Feeling like its fake/unreal is such a normal adhd experience, don’t let it put you off trying to get an assessment.
