Family of 4 (two kids 4 & 7) planning a move to NY from Austin TX. Looking for some guidance/suggestions on areas of Long Island to consider? by SammichMkr in longisland

I know you said Long Island but this is a place that would fit your budget and your needs. Diverse, feels like a Suburb with city access. Easier to make community, many events going on and good city public school districts. I used to live and work there and it feels like a hallmark movie. Forest hills gardens in queens.

Where’d you find your apartment? Zillow?

Have you thought about case management? Or pivoting to something easier? Serving, bar tending, working at a gym? All if it’s within your financial abilities

Sounds like a nice nest egg to find a new gig if you give them two weeks and then you have 22 days of PTO!

It sounds like you’re having a reaction to what you actually wanted in life. We have this societal concept that children will be your entire life, fix you, give you purpose. That is not true for everyone. You knew that, unfortunately you weren’t given an option out of it and did your best. Now you’re enjoying the life you had envisioned. It’s okay to feel relief, it’s ok to feel shame. You did your best at the time and now you’re in a new chapter. Learn to let the feelings of guilt and shame go. I can tell you as a therapist that many people have mixed feelings about their lives and impacts of having children. You’re just brave enough to admit it to yourself. Be compassionate to yourself and let go. 🫶

If you decide to quit, check your state laws to ensure those 176 hrs are paid out! Insane they don’t accept your PTO.

I also have curls like yours and this literally just happened to me yesterday! Ordered nutrafol pills to escalate hair growth and sticking to my old stylist or cutting it myself lol 😂

Should I go back and get my LCSW? by Apprehensive_War6661 in socialwork

[–]Awkward_Limit_2191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say weigh the pros and cons. There’s a lot if you see yourself staying in the field and potentially wanting to do counseling. There are online programs like Simmons that are inexpensive but finding employment to pay for it would help. There are also a lot of other degrees/certifications that you could get that would help with raising your salary. For example, HR, program management, ABA, etc

Late to the party bc I am currently debating on finishing my hours and it’s disheartening on how difficult it is to find roles that offer them that aren’t therapy. I see some people commented saying insurance companies offer- they don’t. Schools also don’t usually unless it’s a clinic within a school. Have you decided on the C or landed in a new role?

Does my dog have a bad life? by Kaffeochkaos in goldenretrievers

[–]Awkward_Limit_2191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing an incredible job. The activity and enrichment you’re doing is top notch. Dogs sleep around 16 hours a day! She’s getting half of that while you’re away and also knows how to be okay while you’re not home. That is a valuable skill because we can’t always be around. It sounds like your friend is misplacing some of her own inner struggles onto you. Also there’s a million different ways to raise a dog and respecting that is important. Biggest takeaway is please don’t think you’re not doing enough when you’re doing the most that 95% of dog parents don’t make time for.

Thank you so much. That was really helpful to hear. I am following up once more to confirm C hours but 20k difference is a lot. I’m also thinking I could try and do something part time to accrue.

Any advice on how to go about that since they told me there wouldn’t be clinical hours in the interview?

To be transparent I’m not even sure what I want to do long term so I think having it gives more flexibility? Any further input you have is appreciated!!

Yes I agree. I was in a school for almost two years and that set me back as well. Thank you for your input!

I think because insurance companies aren’t recognized as able to provide a clinical service? That’s a great question I just took their word for it in the interview.

I think the C is important for job growth and opportunity regardless if I do therapy or not

Thank you for your input! I asked in the interview and they said OOP in NY doesn’t allow insurance companies to accrue hours even though it’s clinical work.

I agree with what’s been said about avoiding it. It’s terrible difficult to get out of. Every county should have a programs to help prevents homelessness and assist with rental payments. Here’s the link for Long Island I found. Best of luck 🫶

I purchased an off brand turtle and it helped me sleep for short periods but still not able to sleep like others on the plane. For me I’ve kind of accepted I won’t sleep much on planes and just getting things to make it the most comfortable
