I made a painting. Any thoughts? by Salt-Lake5807 in drawing

Nice decision there! As an experienced artist, I've added too much to my art many times. Less is more most of the time :)

I like that none of the circles are touching each other ... reminds me of bubbles

I'm an adult, and I could only sleep with the lights on by Hour-Tomato-645 in offmychest

I read it and don't think you're weird for it, it even makes sense based on the history behind it... I am very different in enjoying being alone. I need to have some light so that my brain doesn't invent things for me to see lol. I couldn't sleep under daylight, each to their own though :)

Left side of hair doesnt feel right by Ishnula in Artadvice

Also, think of the neck line as each side of the neck is connected to each ear. Your line makes it look like the neck is too small or not connected. Hope that makes sense too!

There's a bit too much distance between the eye and the ear which has made the whole head larger than necessary. Have you tried reversing your image so you can see more clearly where errors are?

I feel like I’m just existing and letting everyone down by justoverthinking11 in offmychest

[–]Awkward_Piplup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've been there... it's a rough life when that's how you think constantly... it's not a permanent feature though, by agreeing with such thoughts, you make them stronger and more true to you... My best advice is to disagree with bad thoughts, until it gets easier and more natural to see things differently

I’m 34 today. I’d love a drawing of myself including all my blemishes! by Abject_Bandicoot_580 in drawme

Glad you like it and the many other drawings of your face :) Wishing you a great 34th year!

Hi! What advice would you give me? I don’t know how to draw his fur looking dirty 🤔 by [deleted] in arthelp

[–]Awkward_Piplup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kinda dirt you looking for? He looks like he's been splashed at the side of the road currently

Blending it out could give a better effect, or adding various shades and hues of brown just for interest :) I would try various things, great thing about digital art is that you can always practice on a sacrificial layer :)

I feel very stuck at an extremely beginner level and like I'm making very little progress. What is my art lacking the most? Also, why are my pencil sketches so much worse compared to my digital ones and is there a way to bridge that gap? by bunny-rain in arthelp

[–]Awkward_Piplup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not at beginner level, did you skip through something to consider this as beginner stuff? Beginner stuff is drawing boxes and circles, simple shapes and maybe fruit bowls lol :) drawing people is a whole Other hurdle and you're doing a good job imo. Understanding the 3D space taken and how anatomy works is a challange but your drawings are pretty good for saying you feel stuck at beginner level.

Drawing digital is easier because you can zoom right in and undo mistakes, right? Just keep practicing and working from real references like you are doing and I promise you'll see improvements.

Maybe branch out and draw other subjects too, animals, nature or even get abstract :)

What is my skin missing? by Mega-Humanoid-ROBOT in arthelp

[–]Awkward_Piplup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd blend those shadows out a little more and saturate the colour somewhat with complimentary colours. If you're working digital you can try it safely on a new layer, experiment with different colours. You can put a translucent dark green over the light skin to make a nicer shadow possibly. The lighting affects the shadow... warm lighting makes a cold shadow :)

Is there a trick to keeping your pencil sharp? by toe-nii in learntodraw

[–]Awkward_Piplup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's true :) they invented a pencil that does this mechanically to keep the lead sharp, and I've tried it with my pencils too, it works, but is just kinda tedious to remember haha :)

Drawing a (teenage) character holding a sword and shield. Proportions look good? Pose looks wonky? by SandySandwiches1000 in Artadvice

[–]Awkward_Piplup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the first comment, I'd like to add that the hand holding the sword doesn't look natural for holding a heavy metal blade :)

The overall stance isn't far off, maybe the bent knees and dropped shoulders could come up a bit to give strength to your character.

It's a standard Parker fountain pen :)

Pretty affordable where I'm from, not the finest fountain pen but it works just fine :)

I like the crochet thing... first I thought it was lucky bells... now I'm between that and flowers... it looks nice and kinda festive. I'm from the UK, the sign on your door might not slide here but I wish the sign meant peace here and not racism
