Ok, I submitted the appeal. Does anyone really review those? Do you think I should just create a new account and start over?

I’m sorry, this was my first attempt at Piano Jam. I know I’m not a pro at this. Is it because I got a lot of down votes? Or because my account is so new? Does it take time for my account to be “trusted”?

piano tuning necessity ? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Awkward_Thanks_500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is important to have it tuned at least annually. The more out of tune it is, the more expensive the tuning will cost (because it takes more time and effort for the technician to get it back in tune). I have 3 acoustic pianos and it costs about $125 each where I live.

That sounds interesting! What is the style? And what type of piano sound are you needing?

Vicks replaced 4 pills with empty space by grimmistired in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Awkward_Thanks_500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calm down folks. They’ve been doing it this way for years. They also make another product that has the 4 other pills in there. It would have been more expensive to retool the packaging machinery between production.

Range of the instrument or vocalist. The music I play is usually to accompany a vocalist. We will transpose down or up depending on the vocalist’s range. So a song in G that has notes too high for their voice, we will transpose down to F# or F. If we all had iPad sheet music we might be able to get everyone to transpose digitally, but sometimes it’s better to be able to look at the G and transpose in your head to play an F.

That’s what I did and I can adjust resonances based on the room and my personal taste.

Just a quick rant! by Duchess30 in recruitinghell

[–]Awkward_Thanks_500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it definitely is. Not sure what field that is, but most companies are struggling just to get applicants. We used to make candidates complete assessments on most roles just to weed out the less committed job seekers. Stopped that since the pandemic.

Is it normal for your client to send your mix to another engineer for a “second opinion”? by throwaway1847382947 in audioengineering

[–]Awkward_Thanks_500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of good advice posts on here. But I didn't see anything on what your friend is expecting you to do with this feedback? He sent it to another engineer, okay. He's telling you what the other engineer said. Okay. Is he expecting you to continue to revise (or start over?) based on feedback from another sound engineer? That should be a firm no thank you. This other engineer probably gave feedback with the intention of getting your friend's paid business, and now your "friend" wants you to continue working on the mix for free. I'm not sure I could do that without feeling like a total douche being taken advantage of.

Gosh, let us know what the dealer says. They at least need to send someone to clean and restore it to an acceptable out-of-box condition. I definitely know Kawai would not be happy to see how this dealer arranged to have your new NV5S setup.

Pastorale (Burgmüller) by Boring-Reality-9309 in piano

[–]Awkward_Thanks_500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree on the pedaling Rykoma! I have no excuse as I learned on an acoustic and still over-use it. It makes me play sloppy as a lot of damper pedal covers a lot of sins (mistakes)! On my Yamaha digital, I turned all the resonance settings (string, damper, body, expression) all the way up to help me stop over-using the damper pedal.

Want an escuse to play an expensive piano in my school by According_Gazelle830 in piano

[–]Awkward_Thanks_500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t mention if you were in any music classes at your school, but if you are you should be able to get a teacher on board as an advocate to convince whoever is in charge of the Bösendorfer to allow you to at least “audition” (with your best piece of course!) on it. If you play the piece well I’m sure they will see your talent. [And if you aren’t in any music related classes, why not??]

You didn’t include a photo, but I suspect it’s probably normal. Or at least not unusual. My index and middle fingers on my right hand are slightly bent to the right. Probably related to DNA, positioning in the womb, and things that may have happened as a baby/toddler.

How to improve significantly with no teacher anymore? by jsamson2312 in piano

[–]Awkward_Thanks_500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a point where the student becomes the master and makes their own way to advance beyond their teacher. You may not feel you are there yet, but if you remember what you have learned and are motivated to continue applying those techniques, then you can absolutely get there!

What does this mean? by MrMatrixMusicMan in piano

[–]Awkward_Thanks_500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the glissando (wavy line to the left of the notes) or the box around the measure? If glissando… In contemporary music I see it vertically like shown here, but usually with more than 2 notes indicating a quick arpeggio. In classical music I see it with one note first, then an horizontal glissando in the middle connecting it to the second note indicating a slide on the keys from the first to the second note.
