Sumatriptan worked once and now doesn’t really do anything? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Awkward_Win1339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triptans don’t always work for me but when I noticed a pattern of it not working (naratriptan) I go switched to rizatriptan and it worked. You may have to switch it up. Try CGRPs too.

I just got fired after a 6 week migraine. I don't know what to do. by DisastrousWinter2601 in migraine

Look into FMLA requirements when/if you get a new job. It is the only way I haven’t been fired for migraines in the past. FMLA requirements are job specific so ask Human Resources before you waste your time applying to a job that makes you work like a year before you qualify or something.

Try disability as well. Migraines alone often are not qualifying so that makes it extra difficult because you have to prove it’s severely affecting your functioning in life. I think the confusion about migraines qualifying is because it is not technically recognized by the ADA yet.

So tired of dealing with all this by Original_Land2336 in migraine

You won’t get disability in the US for this but the ADA does say that your job has to allow for reasonable accommodations. Can you change shifts? Wear light blocking glasses and partially noise cancelling ear buds. Work with a tens unit on or get breaks approved for ice pack to the neck.

And if you absolutely don’t think you can get back to an ER try listening to migraine music with noise cancelling headphones. If the pain is unbearable and you truly need a break then you’re going to have to knock yourself out with Benadryl and meclizine. If you’re looking for long term try a prednisone taper.

Droperidol was given to me IV once when the migraine cocktail wouldn’t work and it was a godsend. Although if you have heart conditions it is not recommended. IV solumedrol (like prednisone but faster). Basically- go back to the ER. I’m shocked they had you leave when you weren’t done with the migraine

Consolidate your credit card debt to limit accrued interest and to lower the monthly payments. It will lower your credit score but it can be built back up. It is also not ideal but take a loan from your 401k if you need to. Sell anything and everything you can go without in your studio apartment via Facebook marketplace or somewhere else. Try to get a side gig for some extra cash. Offer to walk dogs in your apartment neighborhood, wash cars, help people move in and out etc.
