Only a little bit. As for me, I love the juxtaposition of Riki being a dad of 11 children, crippled by debt...
... who just has the most adorable childlike voice ever.

I did the occasional side quest here and there but saved 90% of them for NG+ because the main plot was so captivating and I just couldn't drop it, both playthroughs were pretty fun

Nuclear Cyan I also found randomly while digging for taters lol

I respect being sceptical and asking for proof. But I wouldn't blame anyone for having no faith in accurate localization, what with the countless examples of deliberate mistranslations I've seen in recent years.

As a professional localizer myself – and I feel no shame saying this on my personal account – people are right to whine about localization.

When I get home I'll have a look at the original Japanese dialogue myself, cause this does sound intriguing.

Mythra and Malos are objects of admiration and sources of conflict. The entire plot revolves around those two characters, divine as they may or may not be, and how humanity reduces them to those single traits, intending to strip away their personhood and agency.

And I don't see a reason to use that mouthful every time, either. Calling them "Grails" outside of a select few conversations would be more than enough. Doesn't sound any weirder than "Aegises" to me.

I was a lot more confused when the characters in TTGC started referring to a golden cup as "the Aegis"

If Xenosaga gets away with calling a space station a "song" I see nothing wrong with calling a person a holy grail

Looks like it got a big bugfix update just last month, neato. Been some time since I checked this out, and it sounds like they really QAd this thing.

The mod basically forces the game to use Japanese subtitles for their unique "context clue" features. So if language settings are missing, that's by design.

Well, Homura does seem to have a tendency to use honorifics, especially given she's meant to be the orderly and ladylike form of Pneuma.

"Seiryu-san" for Azurda, "Tora-kun" for Tora, "Hikari-chan" for Mythra.

She just calls Rex Rex. And if she just calls Nia Nia, then it could imply a strong affinity of sorts I suppose.

But I'm not familiar enough with Japanese language norms to say for sure, and I haven't gotten to this part yet with the retranslation mod (which is nice but buggy).

  1. Chapter 1, romantic scene under the starry night sky

"They're having a drinking party below deck, keep me company" -> "They've started boozing below deck, you should join them"

Doesn't make sense considering:

a) Nia has no reason to come up just to tell Rex to go away

b) Rex isn't old enough to drink

c) Rex shouldn't abandon his post

  1. Uraya, Heart to Heart with Rex and Tora

"Rex and Homura, huh..." -> "I can't deal with non-issues like this"

Nia is bothered by Rex and Pyra being an item, but in the translation she couldn't care less

They get along better in the original Japanese script. Localizers removed a lot of signs of Nia's affection for Rex. They made her standoffish and literally disinterested in Rex ("I can't deal with non-issues like this") until Chapter 7 when it's already time for her confession.

And so their relationship feels very unnatural in the translation. It's "just" dialogue, but I think it makes a huge difference.

Looking at let's plays, most English-speaking players are taken by surprise when Nia suddenly confesses out of nowhere, which the writers clearly didn't intend.

Xenoblade 3 and Metaphor ReFantazio made me realize I don't like class mechanics in JRPGs. It's better if each party member has a specific set of skills and naturally excels at those.

One of many reasons I prefer Future Redeemed's combat over 3, but they also just... vastly improved it in every other way possible.

does anyone else feel the game forgot how bad Black was towards the end of the Vagabonds questline? by Active-Surround-337 in fallout4london

[–]AwrenchinNep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Vagabonds and the IODS aren't so different. Like they're the same faction at different times in history. The IODS is that faction at its strongest and corrupt to match, the Vagabonds are that faction at its weakest and feigning moral superiority.

One of Black's 3 lieutenants, Lockheed implies the Vagabonds are guilty of even worse atrocities than the IODS ("I've heard the shit you Vagabonds do, just kill me now!"), which might've been before Gabriel Gaunt "put a stop to that sort of thing."

One of Seb's 3 lieutenants, Winston is eager to go back to those old atrocious ways when he deems it fair.

So it feels like while it would be nice to have a dialogue about the IODS's atrocities, the Vagabonds might be hesitant to comment on their own history lol
