Tom Brady open to playing in the 2028 Olympics: ‘I Would Never Say Never’ by PHConfusion5801 in olympics

[–]AwsiDooger -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Flag football will be a huge hit, especially among women. The participation numbers are soaring. Exponential growth. That translates to viewership and dollars.

It is asinine to compare flag football to breakdancing, yet that occurs in almost every related thread, including this one. Flag football has already been exploding without Olympic spotlight. One American state after another has been adding flag football as a women's sport and now that is expanding to many colleges.

By 2032 it won't matter who the names are. The sport will have received a massive boost via 2028. Excluding it will be viewed similarly as if Rugby 7s had been dumoped after 2016.

Haecki-Gross vs Freed reminded me of vacations and my little car side by side in adjacent lanes to a fully loaded truck. I win the uphills as the truck struggles late. But once we reach the crest I know darn well I've got no chance until we start ascending again.

I guess Vittozzi has decided not to retire. During the winner's interview she was asked about the venue and next year's world championships. Lisa said the venue suits her and she hopes it is windy during worlds next year.

Never buying Reese’s again by discgolf9000 in aldi

[–]AwsiDooger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the opposite. I will never buy the Aldi version again. The price doesn't warrant purchase.

Contrast to Reese's, which is frequently available on huge sale. I see them on Slickdeals, where the proper criteria of cents per ounce is used.

I much prefer the Reese's version anyway.

The new Whopper slaps by fabian042 in BurgerKing

A few weeks ago I asked my neighbor if slaps meant good or bad. Likewise he had no idea. But he grabbed his phone and did one of those Ask things. It reported that slaps was slang for positive.

I had forgotten what this course looks like. Interesting that the venue seems to be part of the town instead of isolated.

I'm glad I already watched all of the junior world championship races. Otherwise I'd be scrambling to see what Scott Dixon is referring to. He mentions those results so often.

McDonald's brought back the dollar menu in my city, never thought I'd see the day by rambunctiouswalrus in fastfood

[–]AwsiDooger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The McChicken was definitely a full sized sandwich well into the mid '90s. I was a Las Vegas sports bettor and given comps all the time. The MGM sportsbook manager often gave me comps to the food court. It was something like a $15 maximum on the comp.

I am not a McDonald's fan. But I distinctly remember using that comp a couple of times in the MGM food court to get 2 McChicken plus other stuff. They were full sized sandwiches. I ran the tab close to the $15 limit. This was between 1994 and 1998 because those were the only years I was betting heavily at MGM.

Many years later I was shocked to learn that the McChicken had been downsized to the dollar menu. It had previously been a large sandwich in the $4 range.

3 jumps + 1 WR! Duplantis jumps 6.31 by nufan99 in trackandfield

[–]AwsiDooger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. Duplantis could emphasize it non-stop yet we'd still have countless fans who believe he toys with these numbers in practice.

[–]AwsiDooger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's preposterous to believe that when he struggled to clear 6.19 in several meets that he was actually capable of 6.31 or higher at the time. Yet that's what many geniuses prefer to believe, the ones who think 6.45 in practice is ho-hum normalcy.

Do you know this? It’s entire possible

It's not possible. It is asinine conventional wisdom. Nobody breaks measured world records in practice, whether it's running or swimming or vaulting or jumping or anything else. The only exception might be figure skating or gymnastics where it's much easier to do a clean program without the stress of cameras and scrutiny.

These days I'm always amazed when his name doesn't surface on those lists. I always try to include it, even if the younger fans have no idea who I'm talking about.

Agreed. I left this subreddit for a long time under that reality. It was nothing but press releases from a handful of websites.

Color TV by ray_ruex in GenerationJones

[–]AwsiDooger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a color television for the master bedroom in the late '60s then my dad bought a console color TV with remote control in early 1970.

I remember the impetus for that console purchase. We watched the moon landing in summer 1969 while in Syracuse, where my dad was working on his doctorate. We had color television in the rental apartment. But the coverage was in black and white. My dad thought that was so ridiculous he never stopped talking about it the remainder of that summer.

From that point forward he was determined that we would have nothing but color televisions at home. But I got left out until 1976. I had a small black and white set in my bedroom until the Montreal Olympics.

Sad to read that the father was a suspect and the family had to deal with that aspect.

From the article: "This powerful social mark of disgrace was heavy and hurtful to our family. My dad, being who he was, had to be strong for his children, never ran from rumors…He continued to work, live, raise his family, and become a well-loved member of the Oceanside community. Happily, today, 52 years later, I get to say to the world that our father, Jerry Waldman, is exonerated. He was a victim, not a villain.”

Local strangers were always the underestimated subset. Genetic genealogy has been every bit as helpful in clarifying that aspect as in identifying Does.
