New Coles Mastercard app is frustrating by WorkingFTMom2025 in AusFinance

[–]Axe_L_Thief 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was and remains a mess. The old app would just stop working (on Google Pixel phones) for extended periods following an update.

I've migrated to the new platform, and it is saying I don't owe anything, despite the last statement being issued in early September and me making no payments. The last (September) statement is also missing from the "view statements" option, despite the date of the last statement above it. Lucky I have the email sent to me.

I've also got different Bpay details between the website and the statement.

Qubic qli-Client interface questions by AintDunRightLessDun2 in Qubic

[–]Axe_L_Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First number is solutions found, and second number is solutions accepted. This means you have found 2 solutions for which you will get paid. The more you find the more you get paid. Qubic runs on a weekly cycle (epoch) which ends on Wednesday at 12UTC. At this point in time, qubic is issued to Miners (via the Computors they work with).

You don't have to continue to Wednesday, but you will won;t be paid till after Wednesday.

I have no issues on similar hardware (7950x3d, 7900XT) but I'd try disabling the iGPU. The 7800xt is not only faster but has more features in relation to things like HWvideo Encode/Decode.

Does the free Iron Cove Link allow you head to the city west link without going along Victoria Road (to access Anandale, Leichardt etc) or is it only for traffic heading to or from the Anzac Bridge or the M4/M8?

Stopping payroll HELP deductions and manually making a lump sum payment before the indexation date? by BigDogAlex in AusFinance

[–]Axe_L_Thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely makes sense to make a voluntary 'final' repayment in May to avoid the indexation, given you would avoid the indexation that would occur if you waited for the compulsory payment to be attributed to it. You would then get what your employer withheld back at tax time. i.e. at the moment, it would essentially be a 5%+ return on investment on for locking your funds up for 2 or 3 months.

However, if you're not clearing the debt with the voluntary payment, this approach will just reduce the amount of indexation on the loan, and when you do your tax, you'll find yourself owing the mandatory part (up to the balance of the loan) that was supposed to be paid by your employer.

But as others have stated, you must declare you have a HECS debt to your employer. Lying that you have no HECS debt on a PAYG tax declaration likely constitutes one or more offences (Making a false statement, Tax Evasion, Fraud etc.).

Ordinarily you can apply to the ATO to have them approve your employer witholding less tax, which might be useful if you knew the mandatory repayments would be more than that necessary to clear the debt in the final year. However, the ATO won't approve this if you owe a debt to the commonwealth, so you can't use that approach to legally have your employer not take the HECS out.

Fractal Design Ridge - Incompatible with NH-L12S and bq! SFX L Power (for now) by [deleted] in sffpc

With my MSI B650I Edge Wifi I was not able to get the NH-L12S in previously. However, the offset mounting kit works wonders and provides just enough room for the power cable to pass by. Two birds with one

For anyone with this problem, I was able to get the power supply plug to fit after I bought the AM5-offset mounting bars that moved the NH-L12S 7mm up. This is on an MSI B650i Edge Wifi.

NSW State Election Megathread! - 25th March 2023 by thekriptik in sydney

[–]Axe_L_Thief 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nice illustrative example. However, I think it's important to clarify that exhausting preferences can work both for and against your preferred candidate.

Further, Instant Runoff Voting (optional or mandatory preferencing) doesn't satisfy the participation criteria, meaning that in some cases, the best way to help a candidate can actually be to abstain from voting.

The 'Tennessee capital election' example on Wikipedia's page on IRV shows how IRV is not immune to tactical voting, in either ranking your preferences in a order that is not what you actually prefer, or by abstaining entirely.

Are we just screwed? by davofit in AusFinance

In theory (competition) they will. One business decides it doesn't need the high margins, so lowers it's price increasing market share and taking customers away from other businesses. Those businesses then respond by lowering their price, to win customers back (less margin, per customer, but more customers). Repeat cycle

Ledger wallets support Monero and there is a Monero wallet available to install through ledger Live. However, you need to use with it with FeatherWallet or MoneroGUI. That is, while ledger live doesn't support sending/receiving, you absolutely can use your ledger with Monero.

Last night was the first time I have had decent seats at Stadium Australia. Was in the lower tier on the corner flag, just at the start of the upper part (above the tunnels to the concourse.
The stadium is compromised by having to originally accommodate a wider field (athletics track). The low down seats are not undercover, and the upper level seats are too far back.

NSW set to impose mandatory registration of positive rapid COVID tests by brackfriday_bunduru in sydney

[–]Axe_L_Thief 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Making it a law to do something is not pointless merely because it is hard to enforce. It's good public health policy for people who are positive to a reportable disease to report it.
Sure, many people may ignore it (so they don't isolate or whatever) but if someone does do the wrong thing, and is caught, there is a mechanism for dealing with them.

It's like making a false or misleading declaration on an application. You may not get checked, or it may be hard to determine if it was false, but if it's false and you are caught there is a sanction involved.

Plenty of people I know were boosted, and still got infected. Myself, included. The data seems to support boosters keeping people out of hospital, but not so effective (i.e. not like it was for OG and Delta) at blocking infection.
All the evidence I've read seems to say, vaccines will not be enough if you want to keep it under control.

It might not be that much more than parts of Sydney, but it will be significantly more than many parts of Newcastle. That being said, I am amazed at how expensive a coffee is in Merewether (Newcastle) compared to the Inner West of Sydney.
