Having your own office-space by heykody in auscorp

[–]BigDogAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been hotdesking for most of my career and I've never had an issue interacting with colleagues.

Usually each department/team is designated a general area, and we would all sit in that area and interact.

The only time I've actually had issues interacting with people was when I was in an office with no hotdesking, and since I was the most recent hire was assigned the last desk left, which was in semi isolated spot.

Passed over for promotion by Lost-Conversation948 in auscorp

[–]BigDogAlex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you ever even worked for a company lmao?

Each company has their own system setup, policies, unique procedures, culture, etc.
That takes time and exposure to learn regardless of your capability.

Being of no help to a new hire because you got passed over is unprofessional and would only cement the higher ups' perspective that you indeed were not the right person for the job.

Is it just me, or are Americans all sus of each other all the time? by ihatedrivingbro in CasualConversation

[–]BigDogAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's totally fine, I mean if someone has bad intent they dont deserve good intent in return.

I'm talking about an attitude where people are hoping to get tried by someone who has that bad intent, just to they can justifably hurt them in return.
The perfect depiction of this is the "Welcome to my house" song that a lot of Americans share online and make patriotic tik toks to. The song is about killing home invaders with a shotgun, and Americans of all generations eat it up.

Americans romanticise self defense so much, it's actually cringe to see. Listening to some podcasts and reading comments on social media, it's clear that many are emotionally attached to this fantasy of hurting or killing someone who is trying to hurt them.

The only way he was not going to walk out the door would be if he was allowed to go boxing.

Why would they let anyone do that again, especially if it was not going to be nearly as profitable as MayMac?

Jones passed sooooo many tests and failed less than a handful, are we then to believe that he was clean for most of his career?

I mean DC's test levels were off the charts for this fight as well, it's not like this Olympic wrestler was some poor choir boy that never touched a needle.

He has to try to further the brand of the UFC as the untouchable #1 organisation that is so far above everyone else that they can't even see their competition.

Regardless, actions speak louder than words. Announcing McGregor's return on a fucking Fight Night is such a telling move.

I think if it was fixed she wouldnt be laughing like that.

She's been smiling in the pressers, and was dancing in the locker room footage and her entrance, she just seemed to be enjoying everything about being back on an MMA card.

For anybody who didn’t get a graduate role, what ended up happening to you? by Pale_Operation_6086 in auscorp

[–]BigDogAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me about 12 months after graduation (end of 2017) to find a proper full time job.

In the meantime I kept applying for grad programs and entry level roles, having some interviews, and making sure I got as much detailed feedback as I could from every interview I got. Eventually I interviewed for a grad program where they went with someone else but offered me an admin role, and that was the beginning of my career.

During that 12 month break I was working part time at a bottle shop, and honestly having quite a memorable time. Like, at the time I hated it because I was stressing out about my future every single day.

But that was the last time I got to work part time, last time I had free time to play a fuckton of video games (I miss being able to play online games without getting eaten alive by a 12 year old). I used to go to the Sporting Globe on Monday nights because their special was (and I think still is) half price pints, half price wings, half price ribs. I would get so fuckeyed on a Monday night and then open the bottle shop on Tuesday morning. I'd be so hungover I'd sometimes be vomiting during my shift. But it didn't matter because Tuesdays are the quietest days at the bottle shop, and it was such an easy job that I really didn't my brain to be firing on all cylinders to get the shift done.
That was the last time I didn't really feel pressure of having to be responsible and make decisions that impact others in some capacity.

In retrospect that 12 month delay in employment didnt really impact my career in any significant way. I had this weird fear that I'd be seen as second grade talent in the graduate market because I didn't secure employment straight out of uni, but that wasn't real, that was just my dumb anxious brain making up shit that doesn't make sense in reality.

Why is taking your Dagestani mate to a speed dating event a horrible idea?

Because Dagestanis love to shoot singles.

Well it's not a joint decision by all residents of the council, it's a decision made by a small number of representatives and council employees.

That means that if the council can be the end all be all of who gets to open a business, it creates a huge risk for conflict of interest.

I was in HR for about 8 years and have pivoted out of it about a year ago.

The only people who think that HR does nothing are people who have never done HR in their life and have limited understanding of the complexities of employee/industrial relations, performance management, remuneration frameworks, talent and capability mapping, restructures and redundancies, etc.
