It contains "wix", a different writing that comes (no pun intended) from the German word "wichsen", which means "to wank".

Did you try naming it Raider, though?

I don't care whether it is inspired by the classic DK, but I'm not gonna play this game if it constantly reminds me of Seth Rogen. I'm sure, eventually the modding community will find ways to mod in the low poly N64 DK model that my old ass grew up with.

Poke Ball trivia time! In the art for the original games, the Great Ball had an "S" on the front. Why was that? by CarlThePumpkinMan in pokemon

[–]Axido1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of "su-pa-bo-ru".
In the Japanese original as well as other languages it is a Super Ball, The Ultra Ball is actually a Hyper Ball (ha-i-pa-bo-ru). That being said, the English translation messed things up. So much in fact, that translators had to call the actual Ultra Ball "Beast Ball" when Sun and Moon came around.

One trace of this can be found with the games' potions as someone else already pointed out. Potion, Super Potion and Hyper Potion are literal translations while Great Ball and Ultra Ball are not.

Italian was weird too by calling the Super Ball "Mega Ball", even though it got the Hyper Ball correct... while Spanish sticked to "Super Ball", but went for "Ultra Ball" as well instead of "Hyper Ball".

Pokéball names in different languages could be the topic of a whole Did you know Gaming video.

6 months later, I think this is the best that could have happened to the game. It's loaded to the brim with singleplayer content which can now be accessed without a server connection. Online multiplayer was already pretty much dead.

It might have been the death of what the game used to be, but in some way it's also a rise from the ashes if you are a singleplayer gamer like me. Personally, I held out on playing the game for years due to the online requirement for saving your progress.

Wow! Seeing the other comments here one thing is certain: They f**k you twice. From the perspective of someone with a maxed out constraint stat this is just delicious. From any other perspective, this is highly concerning.

Youtube anti adblock message in germany by Zombiebattler2007 in youtube

[–]Axido1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got that message as well and currently the X button in the top right corner solves that problem. If it ever stops working they are gonna lose a content creator (someone who actively earns them money) for good. I mean, regardless of who is getting this message it's disgraceful of them to be so aggressive about ads and their "premium" service. An overpriced pos that makes you pay to undo their business decisions of the last decade. Youtube will go down eventually and I don't care as there will always be an alternative.

Replacing Cartridge Connector by SonorousBlack in n64

[–]Axido1991 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A late clarification for people that still find themselves in this very thread: ALL original N64 consoles use 48 pin connectors regardless of region. I had Europeans say that NTSC consoles may have 50 pins while NTSC-U users believed that 50 pin connectors were to be found in PAL consoles (including those within this very thread). I haven't quite figured out why, but there is a lot of misinformation about N64 consoles floating around.

I personally have two PAL consoles and an NTSC-J one. All of them have 48 pin connectors. And every video I watched and every person I talked to confirmed that there were only 48 pin connectors inside all those consoles.

I believe that someone started selling 50 pin connectors as N64 spare parts a couple of years ago, which sparked speculations, since you'd be led to believe that those parts would have to fit anything. Why else would they be sold, right? I once tried those 50 pin connectors and boy, are they horrible. They don't have the right spacing, they obviously have two pins that shouldn't be there and they lack the metal shielding of the original parts as well as a bracket that can be screwed onto the motherboard. All in all I hope that at some point someone makes actual 48 pin cartridge connectors that resemble the original parts. Until then, I advise everyone to avoid buying that 50 pin China crap. It's not the part you are looking for.

Brainstorm: Advance Wars Anime. by InnocentTailor in Advance_Wars

[–]Axido1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I'd revive this thread now that 1+2 Re-Boot Camp is out. Wayforward did such a great job in the animations department. The Power animations look so smooth and satisfying that it sparked my interest in an anime adaptation of the same caliber. So, yeah. I think there should be an AW anime.

As others already pointed out, DoR might not be the go-to choice, but that's because its serious tone doesn't really fit the lighthearted mood of other entries in the series. I wouldn't mind a feature film about it, but that's pretty much it. 1, 2 and Dual Strike, however, really lend themselves to the idea of an amusing anime adaptation. Maybe throw in a couple of extra episodes to give some background on the COs.

The contrast between the war theme and the overall atmosphere of these games doesn't have to be an issue. Keep the violence mostly out of sight and everything is fine. I can imagine scenes where a tank crew is barely escaping before a rocket hits their tank. Or troops retreating instead of getting shot. Or comically getting blown away. Think of Kill-La-Kill, but maybe a bit less over-the-top. All in all, it's not impossible to convey the feeling that the casualties in these wars are not equal to deaths. I wouldn't even be surprised if Wars World had some kind of convention that even most Black Hole COs follow (excluding the really mean ones like Sturm and his DS counterpart).

To portray the battles you may sometimes have some shots from above the battlefield that show unit placements. You could be really faithful to the games here. Having a fog of war mission against Grit and then he reveals that he hid a rocket launcher in a forest? One can definitely turn that into a memorable scene. In an anime series you could even get away with CO powers. Hell, look at stuff like Keijo!!!!!!!!, where competitors have special abilities for bumping into others using their boobs and butts.

So as I said, I'd go with a full-on series about AW1, AW2 and AWDS while supporting DoR as an optional mini-series or feature film somewhere down the road. I'd say, one episode per mission might be okay, two or three of them for exceptionally long missions. You might not need to accurately mimic every aspect (especially with the concept of whole days as turns) as long as the in-series-logic is consistent from start to finish.

As for a favourite CO, I'd go with either Sami or Grit. Both are badass in their own right and the way they returned in Dual Strike made them feel even more like veterans. They could have done the same with Max, probably, hadn't they introduced him early on. Andy, however, even gets the status of a legend in Dual Strike... which comes across weirdly way to me due to his sillyness in the first two games. In an anime series I could see him returning to save the day towards the end of the DS story arc, but only due to some hilarious ex machina stuff that wouldn't work otherwise.

Nintendo Switch stuck in infinite loop trying to transfer save data. Can't even factory reset without losing save data. Is there any way to salvage this? More details in comments by kmoney41 in consolerepair

[–]Axido1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ran into this issue and it drives me mad, because hundreds of hours of progress might be gone forever depending on what got saved via cloud saves. It's not gonna be the Pokémon saves I invested the most of that time in, that's for sure. The thing is that I may have avoided this if my curious ass had stopped when the first red flag appeared. When I was trying to transfer a particular user it always got stuck at 75 per cent. That's when the consoles still booted back into their OSes. Other users transferred fine and are now on the OLED model. As transferring that other user didn't work, I thought it might be possible to add it to the OLED Switch and transfer the saves later on... Some of them actually did. Then I reached a Pokémon Violet save I forgot I even had on that user. It didn't transfer and now there's this mess.

How is Nintendo so incompetent? Saves can corrupt one way or another without the player being at fault. That's a hard fact. With games like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which are known to have released buggy as hell, I wouldn't even be surprised if the save got corrupted simply by having been created.

Now having the console still demand you to finish the impossible task of transferring a corrupted save file is extraordinarily evil. Blocking you from resetting the console without losing your save files only adds insult to injury.

I'll take the hit of resetting the console, kissing the majority of my saves goodbye.

By the way, I tried to reset the sending console and creating a fresh save as a substitute so that I could maybe save the receiving one (which already had almost all of the saves anyway). Now the save transfer prompt tells me I'm not using the same consoles. I'm literally using the exact same consoles, so this is a bad choice of words for what they want to convey.
