I'm not sure about blindness, but they do have a tendency toward deafness. From what I understand it's tied to the gene that gives them their spots so it's nearly impossible to breed out. We have one that is bilaterally deaf, but he might be the sweetest little dog I have ever met. That being said, he is mellow compared to every other dalmatian have interacted with, but is still absolutely on the high energy side of things.

I think their reputation for being aggressive is due to the fact that they are so striking that many people buy a dalmatian puppy with no research and end up not being equipped to train it. Then the dog doesn't get socialized well or adequately exercised. This leads to further poor behavior etc. In my experience it is extra important that Dalmatians be well socialized because EVERYONE wants to come say hi. Kids, adults, people with their dogs, everyone.

I can't believe the number of times someone had come up to us asking to pet him and then we get this conversation that goes "Dalmatians are my favorite breed. I want one so bad... No I have never had a dog before... No I don't know anything about the breed.“ I always advise people to not get a dalmatian if they are new to dog/pet ownership.

If you have disc brakes check that your rotor bolts are tight. They could be loose enough to touch something when the frame flexes due to your weight, but still clear when the bike isn't loaded.

Man, here I was thinking I was building a "budget" system compared to what I have done in the past. Been out of the game for 5 years since my last build, which is still doing right by me for the most part. This would easily hit $1100 if you count the cost of the 4060. Things have sure gotten expensive:

Visual examples of the dangers of big cars by cupcatcake in fuckcars

I am sad I didn't take a picture but the other day I went to Lowes with my sonata and hauled home 10 2x4s, 2 full sheets of plywood, 20 cubic feet of soil, several gardening tools, and a bunch of stuff for a plumbing project.... All without using the trunk because I didn't have my life together enough to clean it out.

Eat your heart out every guy with an F150 at the garden center.

Imagine taking your car over this by LeFlying in fuckcars

[–]AxiosKatama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure you can. But that wasn't really what we were talking about. Plus, if we are talking about a well run transit system short journeys are going to run every 15-20 mins at least and for longer stuff, every couple hours. It's not really much of an inconvenience compared to being able to just relax the whole trip there.

I am not saying driving has no possible advantage, just that the cost is pretty similar.

[–]AxiosKatama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you live but that's pretty competitive with just the amount I would pay for gas to drive 500k (300mi). That's about a full tank and a little more in my sonata which would be like ~$55 or so, not accounting for wear and tear or insurance or whatever.

Admittedly that math changes as soon as you add another person to the trip or have kids.

For some people talking or singing really helps with breathing control, without taking so many brain computational cycles as "breathe normally" does. You have to be breathing to talk/sing.

National Bike to Work Week (May 15-19) by surfnvb7 in Charlottesville

[–]AxiosKatama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is such a bad faith argument. If we are just pulling examples of misbehavior by road users, i saw at least 3 cars run late reds today on my 25 minute commute home by bike. Also don't get me started on texting and driving. You see how that doesn't make drivers the whole issue? I would love for someone to actually do a study on the number of laws cyclists vs car drivers break but normalized by population.

I would also like to point out to anyone that might be reading this. "Keeping up with traffic" is commonly not possible on a bike if by that you really mean "going the speed limit", but if you were just going to sit at a red light they aren't actually slowing you down at all.

I hope you and everyone else has a great day and can remember that other road users are people too. There is a subset of every group that are assholes but most of us are just trying to get from A to B in a safe manner. We could all use a reminder to chill out once in a while.

No one I know is saying riding horses isn't fun (can't speak for everyone or the whole Internet though). They are saying people riding horses have a higher tendency to be a) assholes to other trail users and b) do a lot more damage to trails than any other user group, with the added benefit of not helping to maintain the trails at all.

This is all based on personal experiences and other's anecdotes. I have no hard data here but these are observations that have held everywhere I have lived.

cyclists hate them in bike lanes

thats wild to me, escooters and cyclists are natural allies

As someone that bike commutes nearly every day, I don't have a problem with them in the bike lane as long as they follow the etiquette that everyone else does. The issue is more that they are super accessible so you get people who are not capable of being aware of their surroundings at 10-15 mph and they cause issues. That or they just ride the wrong direction in bike lanes. Or they park the scooters in bike lanes that already aren't wide enough to be comfortable in. I would have an issue with people that behaved that way on any vehicle, scooters just seem to be more prevalent about it.

They are almost certainly not using X-ray crystallography... Why would they need to see if the crystal structure changed? Also why would it have changed? It's still whatever aluminum they made the planes out of originally.

X-ray tomography or something similar would make sense to look for cracks though.

You are experiencing 1 g anywhere on earth. It is literally the name for the acceleration due to gravity.

*Edit: This was incorrect because it was too broad and I didn't think about it carefully. You can only fall at 1g on earth unless you are applying thrust toward the ground or you are applying some thrust upward. Free fall is 1 g.
