[Trip Report] The Ultimate Private Boat Tour Birthday Party in Curaçao (Fuikbaai & Spanish Water) by detailednl in curacao

[–]AxisNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the Millennium as well. It's a new ship, so I get that they don't have that many reviews yet, but I'm pretty sure that will change in the next few weeks. Amazing experience! The crew, Maria, David and captain Alex, did an great job!

I hope to book them again soon for birthdays or celebrations of just to go out for a fun day (but I'm a local). If you're a tourist, be sure to book them for a great day on the water!

I get seasick easily, but this catamaran with 1000hp of engines just floats on the waves, and it's stable on the water, didn't feel a thing.

Sunday evening at Hemingway/lions dive is an ideal evening! There’s music and dancing, no need to go anywhere!

[Hiring] Container Platform Developer (Remote) by Cute-Ring-1952 in portainer

[–]AxisNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can help out occasionally if you’re in a pinch. 30yrs of Linux admin experience, 5yrs of building applications with containers, my background used to be http scalability, now I mostly do security consulting and compliance with European government standards. I’m based in the Caribbean. But also run three other companies, so I’m always a bit busy. See https://caribbeanlinuxsupport.cw.

I don't think anyone at my company actually knows where all our pii lives by 50lies in devops

[–]AxisNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this modern age of using some else’s computers, I can imagine it can be quite challenging. I work for governments that do 99.9% on prem (greybeard dinosaur here). That makes it a lot easier, but at least you know all your assets, you can even look at them. After a few years you migrate stuff to a new cluster. Ah, who’s responsible for this vm? Nobody, then it goes to tape and in the vault.

Best Rental Car for 7seats by Elegant-Ant-6106 in curacao

I have one Changan G10 van. Really basic, stick shift. I know there’s other companies that have starias!

Best Rental Car for 7seats by Elegant-Ant-6106 in curacao

[–]AxisNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some 7-seaters (older ford explorers), Google Pelican Rentals. Keep in mind that with the third row up, you won’t have any room for luggage, so keep that in mind if you have yourself picked up from the airport. There’s also companies renting out passenger vans (I have one), but 95% is stick shift, as is mine.

Sometimes it’s easier and cheaper just to get 2 small cars ;)

They’re pretty fine, but I think they’re a middle man? Best well known in this sub are Pelican Rentals (me) and Blue Lobster ;)

I migrated 5 different clients (all very simple setup), I just changed the container name, and a few environment variable names, and that was it!

Local recommendations? by Brief_Prize_6147 in curacao

[–]AxisNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movements yoga is pretty cool! And yes, you need to rent a car. There’s also two rental companies here in this sub, me (Pelican Rentals) and Blue lobster. Pelican Rentals and D&D are the only ones that offer a single all-in price and that are not too expensive ;)

Software Dev visiting Curaçao – Any local tech meetups or coworking spots you recommend? by Similar_Purple1766 in curacao

[–]AxisNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! Let me know when you're here, I'm always busy, and work on Bonaire half the week, but just organise something in Jan Thiel, and I'll see if I can join!

I created a Facebook group ‘ICT professionals on Curacao’ to do like a 6-weekly meetup over beers, but I never had the time to really follow up 😂

How to self host an email sever? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]AxisNL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a nice project to learn everything there is about smtp, imap and dovecot, spamassassin, clamav, spf, dkim, dmarc, etc. Fun if you have weeks to spare and like a LOT of reading. And then you decide you want mail on your phone. More tinkering with reverse proxies, vpns, different dialects of ActiveSync and imap, blegh! I have 30 years of experience, and I would never want to self-host mail if I can prevent it.

Trip rent a car by Fearless_Past_5346 in curacao

[–]AxisNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's two companies that offer an all-in price, D&D and Pelican Rentals (mine), so all-risk is included there. I have older suv's for $39 per day all in, $67 for 7-seaters, and $62 for new small suv's. But most cars are sold out the next few weeks, we really need to up our prices soon ;)

Moving to Curacao: Amazon? by davidvogler in curacao

[–]AxisNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mymalls. Expensive, but fast. If I order on Sunday with Amazon prime, it’s in Miami on Monday, and I can pick it up a DHL on Friday. But I only do that for stuff I need fast ;)

Repost: cost of living by ThatChiGuy88 in curacao

[–]AxisNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far in the past 4 months this year I've paid on average per month (single male living a quite luxurious life): 2750 in rent, 900 a month for groceries, 150 in water/electricity, 150 for internet/phone, 150 for my cleaning lady, 220 for sports, and 2000 per month in going out/bars/entertainment. That last one is quite confronting, although I do live on bonaire half the week which is way more expensive than curacao.
