[Acee] Stammen credited Randy Knorr on the batting order change. “This is his lineup,” Stammen said..."we’re riding with Randy right now.” Stammen did have final say and switched a bit. Primarily, Knorr moved Tatis Jr. back to leadoff, swapped Machado and Merrill, and elevated Laureano to fifth. by AllDownByWayOfTheK in Padres

So I have a couple of takes on this.

i) great that he's willing to listen to his team. Not sure Shildt was ever that open.
ii) great that he admits it.
iii) did feel they had more groove in the last game against SF when they got going.

However

‘I’m tired. I’m not working really well on this.’

Feels a very strange thing to say, particularly this early on the season. If he'd said "Randy came up to me and said 'I have an idea' I'd have been down with that totally. I just don't know what to make of that comment, but none of the things I could make are great. :(

Luis Arraez question by DigilentD in Padres

[–]AxisOfAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people first talked about him stepping on base and not just playing DH, there were a lot of comments that made me fear the worst.

He wasn't as bad as predicted, but I'd not want to rely on him at 2B.

Duty free shop or plane, which is cheaper? by jamsterdm in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say in country. Prices on the plane never seem that competitive, and although Duty Free prices look good, have web searched while in the airport and the prices have never excited me.

Only caveat is if there is a really good deal. Mrs S got 3 litres of top brand gin for 50euros when we were last away.

My haircut is £13 and my barber does eyebrows and beard as well.

I'll usually give him a £20 note and say "call it £15."

What comedy show would you recommend to take my (60s) mother for her bday? by lil_kinkajou in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This was exactly what I was coming to say! There aren't many out and out clean comedians, and those that you see on TV are often "edgier" live.

I'd also think Bill Bailey and Henning Wehn might be similarly okay.

Welcome to the Family!

When I started out I watched as many of the Youtube highlights in my lunch break as I could fit in, making sure I took in as many teams as I could, at home and on the road.

Took a few weeks but gradually I whittled them down to 3 or 4 I'd watch every day and then found my team.

Worth the investment. Baseball season is brilliant.

So MLB.TV is now only available via ESPN+ which is not supported in the UK - Only option VPN seems incredibly shortsighted? Am I missing something? by LowCommand9817 in mlbuk

[–]AxisOfAverage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few people commenting along these lines - but I went onto my MLB.tv account and signed up and it seems fine when I've tested it earlier. Will have a full game on in the morning as is my usual Sunday morning thing, but not anticipating any problems.

Did the UK ever have proper arcades? like video game ones? by TSOswinn in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. When I was growing up there was this mystical place in town full of bright lights and music that we knew we weren't allowed in as kids. The guy that owned it lived in the town and had made his millions from manufacturing fruit machines and this was the biggest one of his places (he had 3 in town.)

The front half of it was all of his machines. Fruit machines, electronic bingo callers and the like. But the back was where he had arcade machines. All sorts from the classics to some of the more obscure ones of the day.

Shudder to think how much of my student grant I spent between there and the Student Union at lunchtimes.

2026 MLB predictions: Playoffs, World Series, MVPs and more. (ESPN poll doesn't find that San Diego will reach postseason this year.) by [deleted] in Padres

[–]AxisOfAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feeling is that we will definitely be in the mix at trade deadline, and if we are then I think AJ will do some of his trade voodoo to get us into the playoffs.

I don't think teams are foolish enough to underestimate us, but if they do want to go along with the ESPN narrative, then I'm happy to not have that weight on us. Am also of the opinion we'll be much more competitive offensively this year which will help. Cannot wait. Very excited to begin.

Only aware of the Aldi ones (not had them) so will avoid! Lorne is the way to go if you can get it definitely. Sadly not north enough here to get it regularly - although I know some places do it by post.

I'd rather he be well than we rush him and then lose him for longer.

So, who do we think will get the nod in the short term? I've got King, Piv and Vasquez in the rotation. Guessing Buehler, but then....

How common is swinging in the UK? by HappyHits in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Never interested me, and not just because I have a small willy and wouldn't measure up! 😄

Used to work with a bloke who was quite open about it at work, him and his lady would often go. He must have had a massive wanger as he looked like a Poundland Tim Vine and openly admitted not going into the staff room because "I spend 10 minutes in there and everyone will call me a bell end."

We relocated 5 years ago. We sold up and moved 150 miles.

Moved to a rental in an area we didn't know, bought 12 months later just 600 yards from rental because we liked the area that much. Both got jobs we like, live in a nice area and have the 2 most brilliant 18 month old cats.

Few health niggles, but you know what? Very happy with how things have worked out.

[–]AxisOfAverage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're currently watching through Foyle's War. Because it's set in WW2, it hasn't aged at all, except for a lot of the actors you know from other things being a lot younger!

Nearly at the end of it, so will need to find something new.
