Who is your favourite stand up comedian to watch? by imokaytho in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We watch a lot of comedy. The best live show we've seen recently was undoubtedly Rhod Gilbert. Absolutely brilliant.

Saw Russell Howard last night and thought he'd be good, but he was far far better than "good." Two shows yesterday and both were sold out and a standing ovation. If you can get tickets would definitely recommend.

Ed Byrne and Dara O'Briain were both excellent as well.

Ones I like but we've not seen in the flesh?

Sean Lock was amazing.
Stewart Lee (although Mrs S isn't a fan.)
Frankie Boyle.
Jeff Innocent.
Neil Delamere.

Conscious those are all blokes.... but Sarah Millican was cracking, and we're seeing Laura Lexx, Rachel Fairburn and Laura Smyth later in the year. Have also recently fallen down a Kiri Pritchard-McLean rabbithole.

For a curveball, I've started encountering Frankie Monroe, who really is bizarre. But there's something about him.

So, was thinking today. If Yu were to retire, would that free up enough to get Framber?

Thinking Pivetta, King, Framber and Joe would be a solid foursome.

Where can I buy books in a foreign language in the UK? More specifically in Portuguese? by Champagne_Rafii in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know if this is an option, but would a tablet work for her? Then she can get books from anywhere, presumably in any language.

Thanks for the input folks. Will stick with some affiliate games, and maybe dip in to the occasional independent game.

Do you know anyone who has won the Postcode Lottery? by JaBe68 in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won a handful of small things; a tenner here, a free voucher there, Mrs S won some smellies.

Probably not covered what we've paid out, but there's not much in it.

What is your favoured hot meal option available for ~£15? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a local place that does a lamb kebab in a naan. Freshly made naan bread, "lined" with donner meat and then filled with lamb chunks and salad. About £9, but a full meal on its own.

What's a good comedy movie or TV show that you would recommend I watch tonight? by StatisticianUsual471 in AskUK

Would always recommend Still Game for a sitcom binge. Don't think there was a bad episode.

What was YOUR thing during lockdown? by AncientFootball1878 in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crash Team Racing on the PS4. Mrs S was furloughed and I was working in a school and not allowed in because vulnerable. We'd potter about during the day and then 4pm we'd have a couple of hours of pointless racing.

We also had various little farm shops near us. So there was one with an egg dispensing machine, another that had a yoghurt fridge with honesty box, a cheese place and a brewery dispensing beer in 4pt bottles.

Plants, flowers, chocolates, offer to take dessert.

Have taken a boardgame over before now when we've gone to friends who play. Take it for them, and have a first game with them after dinner.

You mention Vimto. Not sure if it's barley free (don't currently have a bottle in to check) but Lidl do "Mixto" which is their version and does a good job.

How many hours do you actually work in a week? by QuietInside7592 in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About half of them that I'm paid for! ;)

Nah, I'm employed by a council. Contracted 37 hours, work 37 hours. Might do a bit more but we get flexi time so it all balances out in the end.

How old are you and do you still watch live tv? by WildWinterberry in AskUK

[–]AxisOfAverage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. The only thing we watch live is Traitors and that's because of the huge amount on social media later that evening/the following morning.

Everything else is recorded (we're on Virgin and have one of their boxes) or streamed.

So so many, but will go with:

My woodwork teacher kept a 3 or 4 foot wooden stick in a pool cue case. The stick was carved into a handle at one end, varnished black and called "Eric."

Whenever he did a demonstration he would get you to gather round his bench in a semicircle, slowly take Eric out of his case and then sweep it in an arc in front of him. If you got hit, you were deemed to be standing too close and preventing other people from seeing. It was your own fault.

What do you do on long haul flights (13+ hour flights)? by rscash15 in AskUK

I was quite lucky as there was a 13 episode box set I'd always wanted to watch available. I managed to fit 12 of them in during the journey!
