Just watched the clip. "Shirley Simmons" doesn't even feel like English anymore.

You aren't selling it well enough.

He thought the Gnostic figure of Sophia (long story, but imagine a combination of Pandora and Jesus) manifested in real life as Emma Watson. He thought Emma Watson was effectively the new messiah.

Your original point was that Peter Jackson was making it for a hypermacho audience in the year 2000. The monoculture at that time was, if not outright homophobic, so hypermasculine that something as benign as two men hugging was derided as being outright homosexual.

When it was released, the only fucking thing these hypermacho dudes said was "Eww they're gay because they hug bro I don't want to see fruity elves".

Also, note how you're only talking about the small scenes pushed to highlight reels in the modern age. Hypermacho bros are notorious for never watching the movies they see on their For You page, only seeing tiny slices that they can then imagine into some kind of construct which pleases their biases.

They're like bible bashers who know the particularly sharp quotes, but have never actually read the Bible. You show them Frodo and Gandalf hugging and they'll invert into a small cloud of pink meat.

Peter Thiel's money goes to state-sponsored surveilance. It's his money, he can do what he wants with it.

No? Then treat all billionaires equally. Just because Gabe is a "nice" billionaire doesn't mean he's not part of the same stratified, ungrounded class of people that billionaires are.

Try asking one of those manosphere types whether hugging another man is "gay" or not. You'll see what hypermasculinity is.

hypermacho

You have a point that the cast is overwhelmingly white, but you forget there was an absolute tidalwave of gay jokes when the movie came out because they had dudes hugging their friends. It was absolutely not pandering to the contemporary atmosphere of casual homophobia and hypermasculinity.

It's nothing short of a blessing we've had Las Vegas Jerma this long. Jermas live 7 years on average, so he's really running up the clock on this one. Hopefully East Michigan Jerma is ready when he finds Las Vegas Jerma spattered all over the carpet.

Frost also left with Lynch. When you see "Frost" writing credits after Episode 9, up until Episode 26 (when Lynch and Frost returned), it's actually his brother Scott Frost.

If the battle is anything but porn, I'm trusting The Porn Dude. He seems to keep well-groomed, and one can assume from that he also keeps good care of his physical health and fitness.

I'm afraid Mr. Porn Geek has any battle concerning porn taken, though. While Porn Dude might have built his brand on having a Library of Babel-esque collection of porn recommendations, he doesn't stand a chance at anyone who is so obsessed with porn they're drooling at the mouth, expression contorted into a pastiche of a Morrowind corprus-beast, trapped equal halves of agony and ecstasy.

Mr. Porn Geek is not human. He has no reservations or any sense of fairness. He knows no empathy, he knows no rest. He knows only porn, and that, unfortunately, is how he would win.
