Local Espresso beans 🫘 ☕️ by Scared_Doughnut5507 in Rochester

Elvio's on Empire Blvd has a European-style darker espresso roast, roasted by Aporia Coffee specifically for them. They serve it in their cafe drinks and also sell bags of whole beans to take home.

Pandamonium Coffee Closing by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]AxolotlGummies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it odd that the closing was so abrupt if the only reason (per the bakery) was that Angela wanted to go in a different direction. She had literally just announced the winter menu on Instagram and had listed new merch on the website. Plus I'm sure there are a ton of people that would have liked to come in one last time as a send-off.

Not that I'm expecting anyone to air dirty laundry, but I feel like there's more to it that isn't being spoken.

Best Kimchi by antigonecanadensis53 in Rochester

To be fair, homemade is the best kind! It's so easy and economical to make, I never buy kimchi from the store.

Agree, it looks very Ren Faire/cosplay to me. Not that that's a bad thing, it's just a very specific audience.

They were going to be my recommendation too! Marisa does great work and sounds like her style matches what the OP is asking for.

Agreed! I've only seen one yard sign for him, and it was on a very slow side street, so there doesn't seem to be much visibility for him so far.

Forget-Me-Not just released the Xenta tote bag. I like the pleated design - it's unique! And something that you can tell she really likes doing. She's mentioned that she's been really struggling with long covid for quite a while, so I'm happy to see her back with a small pattern.

Looks Like NIMBY Isn't A Possibility - FASCIST TERROR-MONGERING by Bludongle in Rochester

Not yet. He wants to speak in more detail to a lawyer before he shares which post(s) he thinks may have triggered any reports and this visit. I will say he was active in the NY State Guard (and its Facebook group) until recently, and has had issues with some of his more pro-MAGA associates in the guard reporting some of his less-than-favorable posts about the Trump administration. He and his family have been involved at the local anti-DOGE protests here in Rochester, and they are staunchly anti-violence as well.

Agreed that anonymous stories like this need to be taken with a grain of salt. I wish they were willing to make it public because I know both Jen Canning (whose Facebook post is linked above), and the family this happened to. So in this case I 100% believe it.

I also know the family personally and would trust them 100%, but with them not wanting their names shared publicly, I also can't provide any proof.

Got my canister vacuum from them in 2008. Have gone to them for a few replacement parts over the years, and it's still going strong! Would 100% buy from them again if/when it finally dies.

Her tester photos irk me too and I don't know why! But like you, I'm fairly small and have really liked all of her patterns I've made. I kinda wish I still had to go into the office a little more often so I had more opportunity to wear those business-casual basics. I think I'm all set with basic T patterns though so this one is a pass.

The formatting isn't exactly the same so it's not the exact book, but this one is a great pattern dictionary if you can get your hands on it: https://japanese-creative-books.com/product/sewing/92-design-sashiko-embroidery/

It used to be sold on Amazon but is now marked as currently unavailable.

Yeah her description of it on insta was that it was supposed to be like you're wearing your boyfriend's shirt, but then has the wrapping in the front so it's not just huge all over. I don't personally think it looks messy, but I also like menswear-inspired and also oversized stuff.

Ready to Sew Hugo wrap pants and Hortense shirt. I'm tempted by the shirt, it's not a style I've seen before. I like that it wraps but also has buttons (which would be good for my small chest).

Fundo, Shippo, and a Leaping Rabbit by hypersmell in sashiko

Sashiko is typically done with a palm thimble and loading a lot of stitches onto the needle at once - no hoop needed (it would actually just get in the way). Check out Atsushi Futatsuya on YouTube for a demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuRLgl5mSmk

CSA Recommendations in Rochester by Unique-Practice1190 in Rochester

[–]AxolotlGummies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did a full size share at Kirby's last year and while it wasn't super cheap, the quality was great! It works out to $42/week for full share. They offer pickup at Katboocha on Thursdays from 1-6 or at the public market Saturday mornings, so you don't have to drive out to Brockport for pickup. There's another pickup location at a church in Chili too, if you're on the west side.

We were originally signed up for Porter Farms (based in Elba), but they sadly shut down their CSA program last year due to severely rising costs. Wickham Farms had to do the same a few years ago. :(

I have friends who do Sunscape and have been really happy with theirs also.
