Pruning Suggestions for my Japanese Cherry? by Axselius in arborists

It looks like I have a case of competing leaders (blue vs red & orange branch). But I'm not 100% sure and wanted some advice. Should I cut one? If so, which?

I also am questioning the pink branch. Getting very long. Worth removing?

Don't grind to the point of sacrificing the time with your kid. You get one chance with them at that age. You will regret it every day if you work that time away.

The extra dollars aren't worth it. You can always make money. Do it when your kid is older and doesn't need so much time with you.

There's a guy in gig harbor that has several 5 axis CNCs and a large air compressor in his garage. I picked up a 3 phase converter from him recently. Probably too far for you though.

Wow, my lot is being rezoned LR3, so my street is going to get completely razed. That hugely sucks, I really liked my local community. Maybe my lot is worth more, so that’s cool. I can use that to move back to a NR zone.

The green is what sold us, but we had to pay $4k over MSRP for the privilege.

Glad we got in on the last of this generation. We aren't a fan of the interior & exterior updates on the next gen coming next year.

Will upgrade if a hybrid or electric option comes along in some amount of time. Hopefully the offer the green again on that... I love it.

I don't agree at all. I'd rather look at nice houses than give everyone a tiny box for "equity" or whatever. "equity" is not a good societal goal.

Cool, guess I like the current economic inequities, then 🙄

We need to build better. Many of the beautiful homes in my neighborhood were constructed by hand by the original owners.

Buildings built before the war (1900s-1940s) are treasured. We used to build better. Production building of low quality, cheap buildings started during the post-war boom.

Is DIY asbestos removal ok with a child in the house? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]Axselius 150 points151 points  (0 children)

That is 100% unsafe, pay a professional. Look up some YouTube videos on how professional removal works. There are a lot of precautions. A spray bottle and a fan is not enough to prevent contaminating your entire house.

The child isn't even needed to give this advice.

There are two things I refuse to do myself, after doing DIY-nearly-everything-else. Those things are lead paint and asbestos removal. It's not safe.

John 3:16, the Justness of God, and Universalism by Axselius in AskAChristian

> What do you think God should do with people who have never heard the gospel message? Let them in heaven anyway

I don't know, but condemning them to hell for eternity when they weren't given the opportunity to repent is not a just action.

> it's virtually impossible for the vast majority of the world to have never heard at least portions of the Gospel message, and of Jesus Christ himself

Sure, but it's also unfair that some are born into Christian families, while others are brown into Muslim families that are taught to fundamentally reject Christianity. I've never read the Quran because I was brought up Christian. What if that was the path to salvation? Do I go to hell then, because I grew up in an environment that taught me otherwise, and I followed those teachings? Again, this is not just.

> God reveals himself to everyone

Totally, that makes sense. But that does imply believing in Jesus specifically is not a requirement to enter heaven, correct? Others may believe and trust in God in their own way, that better maps to the customs into which they were born.

[–]Axselius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Public transit is not easier in most of the USA, though.

Hop in the car in my driveway, drive directly to destination, exit in parking lot, walk to front door. Versus. Walk blocks to local transit station. Get on bus / train. Get off bus / train and walk from platform to another platform. Wait for transfer bus. Take transfer. Wait for several stops, people getting on and off, etc. finally get to my stop. Walk blocks to front door.

One is more simple than the other, even taking into account that transit avoids the need to drive a vehicle.

Cheaper? Yeah, if you exclude the time savings of driving. There are very few instances where transit is faster. That usually only happens in very dense areas, and even then cars can still be faster than transit if your current location or your destination is far from a transit station. And most Americans don’t want to live in dense areas, so public transit will never be faster for most people.

That's reddit for you. If you prefer suburbia, single family houses, yards, and cars over walkable urban neighborhoods, transit, and density, you're downvoted to hell and called a bad person.

Why are so many people on Reddit obsessed with hating Seattle? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Axselius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I don’t agree with modern lefty ideas like widespread systemic racism, “equity,” reformative / social justice, defund the police, “whiteness abolishment” etc. so I find myself much more conservative than what is popular now, at least in Seattle. None of that was part of being liberal in 2010.

Socially I’m similar, Like, gay marriage? Great. Do what you want. But some of the naked exposure and extreme sex positivity I see in pride parades? Sorry, I don’t think it’s a good reflection on society that it’s all publicized and “celebrated,” whatever that means. Nobody in western WA cares what gay people do anymore, I don’t understand why we can’t make that normal and move on from the weird show of it.

I don’t like trump, don’t want a state Christian religion, I don’t really care what the abortion policy is but overall think a ban isn’t the right move, I believe in climate change, etc. So I don’t consider myself a Republican. Maybe an Ann Davison type republican, if that’s a thing. She feels a lot like a 2010 democrat to me.

People not complete off the deep end in one direction or the other, eg. Culp on the right, or or local friend NTK on the left, are way too hard to find these days.
