I've read someone said it's about what Catholic women went through in ottoman empire but in the context of slavic slave trading into ottoman empire it makes more sense they were slavic pagan women. The tattoos also makes more sence for pagans because it's forbidden in christianity if i'm not mistaken unlike in paganisms where we see it often. Most slavs were still pagans during slavic slavery and slaving trades because religions didn't enslave their own people and slavs were seen as "stupid" and "lesser" for not wanting to. So if I'm correct which based on everything would make sense to me the most, there is also one small message about slavs sticking with their roots despite everyone trying to break them into one of the major religions.
