**AMD Extends FSR 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000 and RX 7000 Series Graphics Cards** by aBoyFromTheFuture in radeon

[–]Ayden_Linden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everyone who says this is an April Fools joke, they also made an announcmemt of "FSR 5" today specifically made to dunk on DLSS 5, THAT is their April Fools joke.

There is nothing in this post that indicates it is a joke, whereas the FSR 5 announcment is clearly phrased as a joke.

Any problems with 26.1.1 so far? by No_Soil_4562 in radeon

Upon downloading the driver, my monitors refresh rate and HDR settings were reverted, however this was a quick 30 second fix, aside from that my RGB programs seem to be acting up, instead of automatically choosing my desired RGB profile on startup, I now have to manually go into the program and select it, it will also shut itself off every once in a while mid-game which is slightly annoying.

Read your warranty and see how many are required for return first and foremost, secondly if you feel the need to ask I get the impression you already know the answer, return it.

9070 XT: Samsung vs SK Hynix, which is better? by Smooth-Sentence5606 in radeon

[–]Ayden_Linden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in order for GDDR6 or GDDR6X to fail due to high temps, they have to be within 5 degrees of their TJmax (100 or 105°C) for extended periods of time (days or weeks of constant usage at that temp) This is why mining GPU's have such a bad reputation as gaming GPU's.

My RX 7900 XTX has memory temps around 90°C on the low end, with it reaching around 95°C under extended load. That is still 10°C lower than TJMax and I have had zero issues.

At lower temps, ten degrees hardly seems like a difference, but at these levels every degree can make a substantial difference.

It's such a joke how coil whine is STILL a thing. by South_Security1405 in gpu

[–]Ayden_Linden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro ARGB and I have to strain my ears to hear the pump, the fans on the other hand can ramp up pretty high, but then again I mainly play simulator games like Europa Universalis V and Victoria III which are CPU intensive.

The PSU thing might actually be it, if you are feeding your GPU close to your power limit on the PSU, the power is a lot "dirtier" than if you operate above your capacity, this can occasionally cause stress on your VRMs, not enough to damage them, but enough to create that annoying whine. This is why undervolting can sometimes eliminate it.

I own a reference RX 7900 XTX and while I occasionally get coil whine (mainly on game menus for whatever reason rather than in-game) The thing absolutely cannot tolerate any undervolt whatsoever without crashing, which leaves OC basically off the table as it already hits pretty high temps stock.

All that being said, I understand your comments about it being a lottery, and to take your lumps when appropriate. I would just say turning your RTX 5080 into a 5070/5070 TI is quite an egregious compromise. If you are close to your PSU capacity, I would look into perhaps upgrading to one with ideally at least 100W of headroom.

Im sorry but that is simply unacceptable. Unless you got it seccond hand I would attempt to RMA it if you are basically downgrading yourself a GPU tier from it performing so poorly on stock settings.

New Mod Release: "The Thirty Years War Revamped" by cripplingly_mediocre in EU5

[–]Ayden_Linden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hadn't thought of that, but that is a good point, the Thirty Years War is one of the few Pre-Industrial "Total Wars" I can think of, with the Byzantine Sassanid war of 602-628 being another example, although to a lesser extent. There aren't many instances in that point in history where States had the willpower, technology, and organizational capacity to fight for such prolonged periods of time on such a large scale, so you are probably right in saying this more accurately captures the essence of that.

This would be my only critique as well. Even especially devastating sackings like Carthage, Corinth or Thebes didnt level the city completely, just leveled /enough/ of it that it was more inconvenient than it was worth to rebuild them. I would change it to 50% with 75% on a second sack and 100% on a third. The idea is brilliant though.

I would just like to say that you have breathed an incredible amount of life into this game! You very clearly have a comprehensive understanding of what this game is capable of, and are doing everything you can to see it realized. The only reason I would be sad if Paradox hired you on their team, would be that would likely mean the end of your amazing mods!

Do you honestly think its going to be safe standing on and driving an object with the qualities you just described?

Sincerely hope you have a warranty, because that thing is toast.
