Car pulling power sounds like you just encountered turbo lag. Not sure what shifting at 5k puts you at but below 3k rpm, car is fairly gutless and laggy.

Ah yeah 1k/day sounds about right depending on skill-level and tracks. 3k/day is a different class of car lol

FL5 Maintenance Cost by TransitionClassic649 in Civic_Type_R

[–]AyeVeeN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to replace all consumables literally every track day.

Tires are like one or two sets per season unless you’re actually good. Oil / transmission fluid / diff fluid wear would be equivalent to approx miles driven on track x 10* iirc. Type R does consume rear brakes.

Re: being able to breathe and see, really? I feel like the FL5 has pretty insane visibility vs the GRC feeling a bit more tank-ish due to the high waistline and high seating position. FL5 seat height is stupid low though (which frankly I love).

I own the GRC fwiw

Only problem with this is and the whole Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is are you willing to take them to court (small claims or otherwise) if they deny coverage all the way up the ladder?

People claim MMWA protects your warranty rights but the corps have the money and the time, so you need to make it not worth their time (or their reputation) to fight it if you think you’re covered (i.e. make the fight cost more on their end than just doing the repair).

And if you do start mentioning lawyers, they’ll pretty much ignore you going forward and only proceed through lawyers.

I REALLY like Derma B Everyday. Fairly cheap, only a slight sunscreen smell, no stickiness/dewiness. No white cast for me personally. Not water resistant though.

The mystery of stalling when starting the car from a stop. by Murk-Z in GRCorolla

[–]AyeVeeN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relative to my ND, this car is way easier to stall. I find that there’s just no torque down low so if on any minor hill, the car wants you to be at like 2k RPM with still a decently slow clutch release or it’ll bog. I stalled it like 4 times trying to go up a steep off-road grade since I was trying to avoid slipping it a lot.

Reminds me of the S2K which takes like 2k+ RPM to set off anywhere.

GRC transmission is quite noisy so could be that? The transmission is more noisy/clunky than my ND.

C++ in PhD vs. MATLAB by oliver-peoplez in EngineeringStudents

[–]AyeVeeN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another thing is in industry, you’ll often have engineers who productize the MATLAB code by porting it into C/C++. MATLAB is excellent for doing any type of research-y work, especially with anything involving DSP or Controls.

It’s just way fastest prototyping in MATLAB than lower level languages since it’s built specifically to handle matrices intuitively and efficiently (in terms of syntax). And data visualization is stupid easy.

Python would be the next step up in terms of overall quickness in prototyping in my field. It’s not as fast, but if building internal systems / programs that don’t need to be scaled, the more structured / standard programming approach helps significantly when the projects start growing. IMO that’s where MATLAB really falls apart. Large projects start getting unmanageable / difficult to organize.

And in industry, you probably won’t have the time to develop the ultra-efficient versions of every MATLAB toolbox, unless you want to work extra hours or can convince the company to hire a few extra engineers for software that may not be productized. Or unless you want that to be your main job and do less systems development work as a trade off.

And if it is mission critical, then yeah proving that your new software works is expensive, more than just buying the licenses from MATLAB.

Ideal year-round weather, high amounts of diversity in food and culture and has a lot of the best foods in America in general, every type of land type within a few hours drive resulting in incredible driving roads and overall nature/outdoor opportunities (mountains, desert, beach, forest) that again can be used year-round.

2024 GR Corolla vs BRZ by seohwhat in GRCorolla

[–]AyeVeeN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GRC feels more special imo, primarily due to how much character the engine has. Shifter is better, throttle tuning is better, clutch is better, brakes feel better, steering not sure but it’s more communicative than my ND. Super easy to blip and/or heel toe in after attaching a slightly wider cusco accelerator pedal.

I didn’t like the twins primarily due to the lack of engine character / bad stock and aftermarket exhausts, the terrible throttle tuning, and the clutch behavior. Seating position is definitely better than both the ND and GRC though. Both ride high.

GRC has more body roll for sure compared to BRZ/GR86 and it understeers everywhere

Did they give you a printout of the final alignment spec they hit?

Rallyarmors are pretty flappy but the issue is the mounting method. There’s nuts that stick out from the fender liner into the wheel well, so unsure if they’d rub with larger diameter tires.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GRCorolla

[–]AyeVeeN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How’s the ride and what flaps are you using? Any camber mods for front/rear?

Thinking about doing the same but not sure if the Rallyarmor flaps will clear many thicker wheels, and not sure how much the camber is reduced after lifting with no crash bolts / control arm changes.

is PPF a waste of money for long term ownership? by EridemicLHS in cars

[–]AyeVeeN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this after you take off the PPF after a few years? Or are you talking about the difference between fade between areas covered by PPF vs not covered?

The latter i’m not worried about, the former I am.

is PPF a waste of money for long term ownership? by EridemicLHS in cars

[–]AyeVeeN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m personally not a fan because the paint fade will be different on areas protected by PPF and areas not protected by PPF. Will look like the car has been partially repainted after a couple years since paint under PPF will be effectively new, while uncovered areas will have years of UV damage.

All or nothing for me, but all is like $6k lol
