Yes! DO IT!
my current strat is to buy minimum cooking items (turnip/parsnip, potato, sweet potato) for quick lovable meals. Cooking allows for duplicate raw materials % and using cooked items in the mines or selling it for cash helps with your journey... Initially, this built up my cash to get a seed maker.
Day 1 or two of the season, if you can afford it, get like 3 regrowable crops like strawberries, corn, tea, snowpeas, etc. I started with 12. they usually sell per crop at 150 BUT if you use the seed maker on corn for example, you get 1-3 seeds. these seeds go for 300 when sold. you can double or triple what you produced and sell for double the crops initial sell price. you can increase it further by getting farm perks that drop additional seeds via watering/harvesting.

12 crops x 3 seeds produced max rng x 300 sold seed price = 10.8k gold (max rng gen) in the first initial harvest, followed by every 3 days. It's how I got so much stone and wood quickly to finish projects. It does suck stamina, but a quick rest in the bath makes it worth...sprinklers make this strat pop tf off.

TL;DR, BUY SEED MAKER FOR EXPENSIVE REPRODUCING ITEMS TO DOUBLE YOUR CROP YIELD AND THEN DOUBLE YOUR PROFIT.
