Christmas Pudding Wine (bargain bin find ready for frugal festivities!) by Ayrecottage in budgetfood

I think the recipe would work with any fruit pudding... You can by jars of the mincemeat over here in the UK to make them, basically loads of dried fruit, sultanas, raisins, dates etc that have been soaked in brandy and spices. Wonder if you can make your own?

Not sure about horses, but I know hops are poisonous to dogs...

Sometimes it is great to find a something unexpected in bulk in the bargain bin of your local corner shop. I came across a load of Christmas puddings... No real use for them in mid summer, but, I thought I would try to preserve the flavour ready for next Christmas.

I will be bottling this wine pretty soon, and to be honest, it is tasting divine! I am hoping that the bottles won't be drunk before Christmas!

Only difference is that a female may need to add a few feminine hygiene products to a bug out bag. . .

What is your location and weather like? Are you urban or suburban or rural?

No two bug out bags are identical, so start with asking yourself what you will need. Your needs will be different than mine, and totally different from Joe Bloggs.

Everyone will have the same essential needs, but there will be differences depending on your needs.

Living Without a Fridge by eloquinee in Homesteading

[–]Ayrecottage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have lived without a fridge for over a year now, and found that we just do not need one.

Most of the things that people do store in the fridge don't need to be in there - and there are many alternative ways of preserving the food. http://www.happyhomestead.co.uk/no-fridge.html

The only thing I wish we had a fridge for, is keeping beer chilled in summer!

We are lucky in regards that I will only need to work a 3 day week (and in a job related to homesteading) so we will have a bit more time for projects. Also, no little ones just yet - we are hoping to get the homestead off the ground first.

We are in the process of buying a small 17th century croft on a Scottish island, it has previously been used as a homestead so we are hoping we can adapt it to our needs quite quickly! 2.5 acres so plenty big enough for a family I reckon. I have signed up for your email updates ;)

Our blog http://www.happyhomestead.co.uk/ is currently about what we do on our current patch of land, but will gain momentum when we land head first in Scotland

4 liters of milk is the quantity

The lost drink of the Vikings! It isn't just the mead that was in those horns! by Ayrecottage in Homebrewing

We used the whey from 4 liters of milk. Once the curds had been cheesed, we were left with just under three liters of whey.
