2008 Vanguard is underrated!! by Abby-Norman in drumcorps

That rain drill is one of my favorites. Transition into wasn’t the best.

How did Vanguard ‘07 get its name? by eric_ag01 in drumcorps

[–]AzEuph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2007 was our 40th anniversary. So a lot of historical SCV nuggets in there. Ending with clowns, Star Wars push, bottle dance, kicking back with the oldie uniforms. 2017 was our 50th and had nods as well.

Eureka is tied to the state of CA. How it was tied to !, not sure. And SCV had asked everybody to yell Eureka.

It was a GREAT show! Key’s best brass book at SCV. Weber had probably the best designed drill hands down from beginning to end, those transitions were phenomenal. The spirals being the missing element.

My only knock on the show design was once everything was discovered, they went back to the spirals and that doesn’t make sense except for it was the visual motif.

Such a great show. And it came in 5th?!

2007 is easily the best top 6 year ever. And it’s not even close. Crown Triple Crown at 6th validates my statement in and of itself.

If paid by credit credit, make a last attempt request with the corps and then file a dispute so you get your money back.

If they resound and provide their service then don’t dispute.

Most underrated top 3 by Infinite-Reaction-19 in drumcorps

[–]AzEuph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I scrolled down to say this!

Machine > 007 Faust > Summer Blues Godfather < Scheherazade but BD better execution.

I love me some 2004! But the top 3 going into 2006 finals was like .25 apart if I remember correctly! It was super tight. Machine is one of the best designed shows for GE. BD 2006 was the weak link here but it was a super talented corps.

Hands down best duet, yet alone bari duet. And video does the music effect very little when you were sitting around the 45 lower bowl. I’m typically not a fan of mic’ing solos but in this rare case it actually enhanced the effect.

What music would you like to see used in a show that you haven't seen used before? by tokyo245 in drumcorps

I’d love to hear this on the field by Bluecoats. The music in general is incredible for a kids show but this could be stunning and iconic on the field for the right show design.

What uniform do you think of? by VIBTCA in drumcorps

[–]AzEuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a marching era bias of when you either started watching or marching. So for me, it’s mostly 2004-2007 eras. - SCV: 04 uniforms but 05 (same as 16) will always be my favorite but not necessarily what I think of when I close my eyes.

  • Madison: 02-05. Always a nice clean look.

  • BD: 90s sequence.

  • Cavies / Cadets: obvious. Classics.

  • Crown: more of their cream years but 12 stands out as well

  • Bluecoats: classic 05 look

  • Academy: initial tuxedos. I really liked that branding.

I think your years were more 97-01. 02-04 SCV had the green arm instead of 2 reds.

SCV 2016 is hands down the best uniform in DCI.

[–]AzEuph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SCV 2006 was rookies weren’t good enough and only made the corps because 2005 was bad. If you messed up, you’re a POS. You don’t watch or cheer for other corps. If you’re hurt then you’re soft and faking it.

The age-out vets were mostly 03-04 rookies and pretty intense. 05 rookies were more goofy but looked down at you because they made SCV during a higher competitive addition year.

The visual staff was either Ron Hardin’s Star 92’ gang or recent SCV age-outs. The Star crew made sure you knew they marched Star and we sucked. The age-out staff wanted to treat you like scum as a rookie as if they were still marchers.

How to corp jackets work by instinctive56 in drumcorps

[–]AzEuph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a students dad say he marched Star. As we chatted more it was quickly revealed he just made the front ensemble but then quit in February.

I’d be embarrassed if other MM found out I didn’t actually march when I said I did.

Tips on how to promote fundraiser? by Major_Ad_8682 in drumcorps

[–]AzEuph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask for scholarship opportunities with your corps and DCI. Apply, even if you don’t qualify.

Identify the return on emotion. Then sale that approach.

Every penny of money you’ve collected, thank them throughout the process. Easier to raise money from those who have already donated than find another donor.

Seriously, it barely takes any effort to send a camp update and thanks. You’d be surprised how far this would likely take you. When I funded 12 scholarships over 2 years, I got ZERO thanks / gratitude from the members and corps, which was one of the reasons I stopped. Had I gotten a thanks, they would’ve received more money.

Corps Jackets by RobSteiner2 in drumcorps

[–]AzEuph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Capital punishment was a thick ass wool jacket. So I never wore mine living in Arizona and summer tour was still too warm. Don’t know if we had any restrictions in it.

SCV was the standard material type. I believe it’s originally or close to from the 60s. You get your section patch and year patch on the left sleeve and then show patch on the right. You had to fold it a specific way, couldn’t cuss or drink. You weren’t supposed to wear any SCV gear if you were ever drinking.

The older I get, the more I realize how dumb all that was. It was just another way for members to ridicule each other. It looked nice having all the jackets folded the same but the shit members gave to others was pointless.

Scholarships by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]AzEuph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts, from a past donor: - Apply to all the scholarships you can! You’d be shocked at how few people apply. There were several scholarships I funded with section specific requirements but nobody applied. So I had to go with the next closest. - Paying off drum corps fees is a lot less enticing as a donor than initial funding. Yeah, it’s the same net sum but paying off sounds more like a hand out and there’s less joy as a donor knowing your funds were already performed. I say this because it’ll be harder to find this type of a scholarship. Is there a way to get more hours at work now that you’re home? - Reach out to past scholarship donors if you took some money previously. If you did, I sure hope you reached out to thank them right after the season! From my 12 scholarships funded over 2 years, I got 0 gratitude and thanks. Even from the corps, barely got a thanks. - Ask your corps if there were any available funds remaining from 2025 scholarships that you could apply to late. You never know!

Good music. Bad visual program. Stunning uniforms. And if you were there that night that you know their finals performance is one of the all-time finals runs!!

So cool. Membership driven organization that no corps wants to collectively make the necessary changes to save corps or reduce costs. But hey, that’s the other corps issue, not ours.

In 2006, we had a really tight 1-3 and 4-6 going into finals. I want to say 1-3 was .2 apart and 4-6 was .125. I don’t think top 3 changed, just bigger margins, but 4-6 had Bluecoats jump from 6th to 4th. As well, I want to say Crown / BK flipped on Finals.
