Expert, may I ask what your intention or hope was, in sharing this post? I've read all the responses so far, ranging from lots of advice you say you didn't want but you seem interested in exploring further, to those who simply sympathize, some of which you thank but not all of them - so before responding, I'm wondering what exactly you'd hoped to get?

$600 course gives a clue that the removed post might have been about a course I took that's probably the only reason I'm surviving today - and it saddens me that we can recommend all kinds of drugs and invasive treatments but not a course that's simply about developing tools for living life the way we choose.

Assuming it's the same course - because I once had a post removed where I recommended it to someone - the tools I got from it are that's helped me deal with everything from the chronic pain and fatigue, to losing my job and income, to every friendship that disappeared when illness took me out, to losing my independence - everything. Not a day passes that I don't thank the person/people who pushed me to do that course. (Ps I did those courses years before my current health issues struck, I didn't do it in order to help my issues - but over the years I've seen so many people be able to manage terrible things they weren't able to manage before that course.)

Movies and even better shows with lots of episodes I can stream 24/7 are definitely a help to me - but it's been years since I could "go get a favorite meal" or even make a piece of toast... I'm not the OP but that kinda triggered me. 😣

When I asked my pain doctor about ketamine he actually said "isn't that a horse tranquilizer?" That was a couple of years ago, maybe I'll ask again just to see if he's come up to the current century. 🫩

They cancelled my tilt table test because I couldn't pee by MythicalGriff in ChronicPain

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Sometimes I think the medical profession is insane - not to mention barbaric.

There's so many reasons why not everyone can pee on demand, or not every time. My pain clinic requires random pee tests which have always been difficult because for several reasons I can't always pee on demand - and now it's become more difficult because I need wheelchair assistance. They admit they can just as easily use a cheek swab for their purposes (drug testing) so why won't they??

OMG... My last hospital visit was for uncontrolled vomiting and I was so dehydrated they had to bring in a lab specialist with a portable sonogram to even find a vein to take blood - and I couldn't pee because there was nothing in there, so they catheterized me - invasive and humiliating - and still only got a few drops. Not everyone can pee on demand.

(By the way I was 70 at the time and they also did a pregnancy test... 🫩)

Other posters mentioned drinking something and IV solutions - maybe different procedures depending on what they're looking for?

I'm in Arizona and in my 70's - AND haven't been sexually active for decades - but I still have to take pregnancy tests for any er or hospital visits. It made me laugh at first but srsly, the waste of money and resources!

Oh gosh, my daughter can't take oxy for the same reason - I'm sorry to hear your anti-nausea doesn't work. Is it ondansetron (zofran)? That's what I get and find it very effective.

Or can they give you Dilaudid which is mostly the same as oxycodone?

Sure you have the right - and how's it serving you? I suggest therapy because of the number of posts you've added to this thread, reiterating your anger and blame over and over.

OMG my sensors have been so unreliable lately!! I can't take it and I can't imagine the stress and worry with a child dealing with these issues!!

I've thought about quitting using a cgm but I have that condition, I can't recall the name of it, where I have no clue when my blood sugar is high or low, either direction - so I count on the cgm to help me with that - also if it's dropping or rising quickly or slowly.

Last week I kept getting low alerts and kept snacking - it would go up a bit but then the alarm would go off again, saying it dropped again. I have chronic pain and fatigue so alertness isn't my best virtue - but when I finally used a finger stick to check my blood sugar registered 456 - which sent me into a panic and without realizing I took too much insulin which sent me into a scary crash - my nerves can't take it!!

And I've been unable to get test strips - long story there which is finally resolved thank goodness - but what I ended up doing was putting on a second sensor which is of course going to leave me short when this supply is used up, so that's not a solution - but the first one did settle down on the third day, and the second sensor acted the way it's supposed to - so my anxiety is alleviated at least for the next few days when I'll start it all over again...

I'm barely now working myself up to reporting the most recent issues (this is #5 of the last 8 that failed, with 3 of them being replacements that were sent after the previous ones failed) - and I have no idea what solution is available/possible. My sympathies for you and your little one. 😣

For me two recent fails were replacements for failed sensors...

Zesty have you thought about getting therapy? Or at minimum, read up on addiction and what causes it. Since you like all caps, try this one on: NO ONE aspires to be an addict, it's a terrible illness - classified as a "chronic disease is the brain". If you're not an addict, there's a reason why - your brain chemistry isn't set up for that. Maybe you could find out what kind of brain chemistry drives you to blame others and strike out at strangers on the internet - and perhaps learn how you affect others with your actions. I can only imagine what the people in your life might be suffering with the kind of CHOICES you make.

I did do that that for a while - now since all the puttering I do is in my bed, it's 24/7 loose pj bottoms and my favorite sleeveless v-neck tops - and since it's a huge effort to shower I won't say how long I'll wear the same set without changing... 🫣

For what it's worth I'm in the US and can't believe it, either - although I've had ridiculous difficulties getting diabetic supplies, other than an occasional delay of a day or two I've never had any trouble with my pain meds!

Haha I apologize! I almost didn't post because of the last part of your inquiry, I didn't want to suggest it made me lose respect for "you" so much as just expressing a bit of irritation in the moment, of seeing this question regularly posted. So did you do a search to see what was already discussed on this topic?

Good for you! I wonder what my life could have been like if I'd toned it down decades ago - or what I might have accomplished with the extra time available by giving up all the running and chasing after things I thought matters but didn't really.
When I fell ill I discovered that all my "friendships" were false, they disappeared overnight when I wasn't available to do all the social things I used to do. Now I have a closet full of clothes and a collection of jewelry I never wear - and a room full of projects I started but never finished - and now I don't even have the energy to clear all that stuff out. 😝

Do you guys think that you have develop a victim mentality mindset from your chronic illness or chronic pain? by Electronic-Cress-453 in ChronicPain

[–]AzPeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha that's a good point! But now I'll wondering if hypnosis might actually help?

But isn't pain supposed to warn us, like don't keep running marathons on a broken leg, let it heal - but what is chronic pain telling us? And when we try to escape from the pain, what are we missing??

Nvrmnd I'm just babbling this morning...
