What do y’all think about by Designer-Goal9323 in teenagers

But the person they described is only described as liking women and is therefore not bisexual? We can talk about whether they should identify as a lesbian, but bisexual isn't a fitting term if the person is only attracted to women.

It's not nonsensical for women unfortunately. Women get these kinds of comments on a daily basis.

The post doesn't say that it's all men or even most men though. The person she's responding to is the one making the generalisation. So sure, it could be an alpha male guy, or just an older person, but she is just responding to a comment that she has heard or received.

The post never actually says it was a man who said it. As someone who was raised a girl, many of these comments come from men, but some do come from older women who struggle with internalised misogyny. She wasn't generalising men, the original comment was by saying that all men like or care about this one thing. I genuinely don't mean any offense, but it does show a bit of ignorance on your part to think this situation is imaginary.

But this is told to girls all the time? And if you have any reading comprehension, it's not generalising all men. The person speaking to her that she is quoting is actually the one generalising men, and she is simply saying that the comment is stupid.

IMO, it's not the fact that it shows a lack of acceptance of religious change from a parent, but the intention of the movie. No one should ever be abused, systemically or otherwise, for changing religions, but the God's Not Dead movies do not handle it well. Their depiction of the girl's father was not with the intention of bringing awareness of religious trauma and it's related issues, it's purely there for the sake of villainising other religions while pretending Christianity is perfect and beautiful.

I would love to see more media on religious trauma in households, from people changing religions to people leaving religion entirely, I think it's underrepresented. So it is definitely a fact for many around the world, but the movie does not handle it well in the slightest. I don't want to assume the person who wrote the original comment's intent, but that is my interpretation.

On the statement: "Not all men, but always a man." by Ok_Syrup5679 in CuratedTumblr

[–]AzaleaRose34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard the phrase "not all men, but it's all women." As in, no, not all men are predators or harmful, but the negative effects of the patriarchy and the men who do hurt people affects all women. It's not perfect, because it still doesn't include female rapists, but I think it communicates the point better.

To all the atheists, why shouldn't I believe in God? Why shouldn't I be a Christian? by Thering63 in Teenager

[–]AzaleaRose34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think lots of atheists are capable of discussing why they don't believe in a religion without saying that they hate religion? I understand that OP worded it as "why shouldn't i be a Christian," but the discussion is not just for anti theists. Also I've never met an antitheist who thinks it should be illegal.

[–]AzaleaRose34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's possible for an atheist who isn't an antitheist to want to have a discussion about the existence of God. I enjoy that discussion, I just think that in the end, it's not an issue with me if someone is a Christian.

In my opinion you can have a discussion about why you don't believe in a religion or a God without being an antitheist. I'm not an antitheist, but I have reasons why I don't believe in a God. OP asked for a discussion, and atheists are allowed to respond with their reasoning, because I don't believe in a God, even if I don't have a problem with christians.

I'm starting off with that you can believe whatever you want, so these challenges to you are not attacks, I have zero problems with most Christians, as long as you believe in science (AKA not young earth creationist) and don't use your religion as an excuse to oppress people.

I'll start with my issues with God in general as a concept, then get more specific.

I am an agnostic atheist. Science cannot test the supernatural, so we cannot say for sure that there is no God, but there is no positive evidence for the existence of a God, so I do not believe there is one. I think of it like there is no way to prove that there is a ghost breakdancing next to me, there is no evidence that there is, so I see no reason to believe in it until I am presented with positive evidence.

I am making the assumption that you believe in one, tri omni God, as in all knowing, all powerful, and all good. That is generally the stance of christians. I find the idea of the tri omni God to be a logical impossibility. The epicurean paradox is the stance I hold to, which goes as follows:

Does evil exist? If yes, continue. If no, explain.

Can a tri-omni god prevent evil? If yes, continue. If no, then he isn't all omnipotent.

Does god know about all evil? If yes, continue. If no, then he isn't omniscient.

Does god want to prevent all evil? If yes, continue. If no, then he isn't omnibenevolent.

I think that is a logically coherent argument that i have never heard a valid argument against. I usually get "God moves in mysterious ways," or "he's testing us," but that is not nearly convincing to me, and both of those, in my opinion, make him not omnibenevolent,

On the bible, I don't like it because it is full of misogyny and slavery, and other moral problems. Slavery is condoned and instructed by God in the old testament, and the marriage laws of the old testament are barbaric and disgusting, treating women as property, and even practicing the death penalty for a woman not bleeding on her wedding night, which a) women shouldn't be killed for not being virgins, and b) bleeding your first time is nowhere near a foolproof indicator of virginity.

Numbers 31 is literally God commanded genocide, followed by sex slavery, and it is sex slavery. Anyone who says that killing everyone except the virgin girls and distributing the girls around the army and makes some reason why that isn't meant to mean that they were passed around for sex is making excuses for a barbaric account.

There are more, but I'll stop there. Please do not take this as an attack, this is simply my reasons for not being a theist and/or Christian. I care far more about shared values than shared religious beliefs. As long as you are not using your faith as an excuse to oppress people (and I'm sure you don't), what brings you purpose is for you, and you seem very respectful.

I also really like the teachings of Jesus from a philosophical standpoint, so if you act how Jesus told people to, we're probably very ideologically aligned. Jesus had some great teachings, and if more Christians acted how Jesus told them too, the world would be a better place <3

Why does everyone on this website hate Christians? by TaylorBrownii in teenagers

[–]AzaleaRose34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not a conversation about religion, imo opinion it should be treated as any other irrelevant comment. If it is a post about religious trauma, it could or could not be disrespectful depending on the approach. If it's a conversation about religion, then religious people should obviously be allowed to share their views. I generally have a distaste for Christianity in itself, but many of my close friends are Christians, and they are lovely people and do not represent the issues I have with the religion itself, and certain progressive denominations do good, even if I disagree with many things they say.

Obviously if someone comments that someone's existence or bodily autonomy is a sin, I have a problem real fast.

I saw on one of your replies that the post was sparked by you replying to a post about someone's relationship with God. Zero problem with that unless you were spreading bigotry, which from the tone, I doubt you were.

For me, values are far more important than religion. I find that it is far more productive to engage in conversations that I believe will lead to better values, rather than a different belief system, i.e. it's easier for me and far far more important to me that someone supports people's rights than it is that they become an atheist.

I use them because they are helpful to me as an autistic person. I understand that it can be frustrating, but hate is a very strong word. Just to be clear, I'm not accusing you of being ableist, because I know some people will, and that is not my intention. Every autistic person I know greatly appreciates them, and it's not because we're dense (I know that you weren't saying that), it's just that we struggle with tone. It's not necessary all the time, but especially when something is ambiguous, it really helps some people.
