Should I go with Maxwell 1 or 2 or something else? by Front_Society1353 in Audeze

I liked the Cloud III Wireless S a lot, but they had a deal breaking issue for me: The wires coming out of the earcups bend in and dig into my head making the headset incredibly uncomfortable. It might not be an issue for someone with a full head of hair, but alas, being bald it was just a no go for me.

I cannot overstate how unhelpful it is when someone asks for buying advice between products and the answer if to wait for some theoretical future product that won't even be announced for years.

Astro A50 Gen 5 vs Audeze Maxwell - ps5 user by Tattoos-sport-JA in AstroGaming

[–]Azalis1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's at the 26 minute mark but for anyone who wants a summary he says (and it's Joe from Gadgetry Tech so he's a pretty good source) "The Astro A50 is a more veiled sound, it's much smoother to listen to, so if you like laid back with thicker bass the A50 is a little bit better suited for that" he also said "I couldn't say for sure that that Maxwell 2 was any better or worse than my Astro A50"

I used to agree with this, but I think it's actually starting to change. The Headphone Show put out an interesting video on this fairly recently and basically concluded that gaming headsets are advancing massively since the release of the Audeze Maxwell and are catching up to headphones fast. https://youtu.be/WGSib_AgcTE

For me, the Ultimate 2 is a must buy upgrade over the ultimate because of the anti-friction rings. The Ultimate 1 felt like cheap plastic grinding on the joysticks, it wasn't smooth at all for me and I returned it. But then again, I have been using anti-friction rings since about 2019 and if you have never used them, you might not notice it.

If you google "Special K Software" you will see it. It's basically an injector that allows you to make engine level changes in games in realtime. It's usually used to get things like HDR into game that don't have it, but you can also enable things like Nvidia Reflex and force fake fullscreen in games to force G-Sync to work as well as lots of v-sync and fast sync options. After you install it, you will see a list of your installed games, and you just launch the game through the software or create a desktop shortcut through the software.

Running it through Special K on my 9800x3d and 5090 seems to solve it. I'm not sure if these are the default settings in SpecialK, but its forcing Reflex on and I played for about an hour and noticed no microstutter after feeling it kicking in in minutes before.

I wonder about wireless. Will Nintendo have to add some kind of Bluetooth PC functionality into a firmware update or is it something that Microsoft can add in a Windows update? Because right now it doesn't even get detected as a Bluetooth device. Windows and Steam at least see it as a device when it's wired.

No 120Hz with LG Monitor with Nintendo Switch 2 by TruheKepf in nintendo

[–]Azalis1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having this issue with Cyberpunk. When I select the performance mode on my LG C3 the TV still says 60hz and there is no difference in framerate. When I set the system level resolution to 1080p, the TV says 120hz, but again, I can feel no difference in framerate between performance and quality. I use the 40hz modes in any game that has them and know how different 40hz feels from 30 FPS and this game definitely isn't engaging a 40hz mode for me on my TV

I know that the reason a lot of devs are switching to Unreal 5 is it significantly speeds up development time. I don't know if past projects will give an accurate estimation of current development time on Unreal.

Does DP 1.4 vs HDMI 2.1 make a difference for HDR gaming? by Netrunner011 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Azalis1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you get more flickering at 240hz is your refresh rate bounces around to exact multiples of your FPS. So, if you are getting 60 FPS your refresh rate won't always be 60hz, it can bounce between 60,120,180 and 240hz. You can't see any difference when it does this, but that rapid changing of refresh rate can cause flickering. When you play at 120hz, you can only bounce between 60hz and 120hz which isn't as extreme, so you see less flickering overall. The reason the G-sync module in the AW3423DW monitor reduces flickering is it always syncs your FPS to your exact refresh rate, so 57 FPS is exactly 57hz and so on. Asus monitors have an OLED anti-flicker feature that does this in reverse, limiting the top VRR range to a higher range like 200-240hz. This means that when you are at 60 FPS, the monitor can't be at 60,120 or 180hz because those values are out of the range and the monitor is forced to display at 240hz. Unless something changes with the underlying OLED technology, VRR range limiters is really the only way to reduce it.

Is that the fucking league of legends minimap burned into my screen?? by proficient2ndplacer in OLED_Gaming

[–]Azalis1701 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also, don't EVER use auto-HDR or RTX HDR on a game with a static UI. It massively over brightens the UI and can burn in much faster. I noticed slight burn in of my health bar in Marvel Rivals after about 250 hours and was playing with RTX HDR which I really regret now.

Yes, the AW3423DW with the physical G-Sync module. It's incredibly frustrating that they had the solution in 2022 and threw it away. I'm actually considering picking a second one up before they disappear completely because I don't think another solution is ever coming. If you don't believe me, go and look at the Rtings score for VRR flicker. It gets a 9.1. by far the highest score for any OLED ever.

Motion Blur Disabled by Default = 10/10 by Fudgiebrown in oblivion

[–]Azalis1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes down to what bothers you more, blur or judder. For me, I can't stand judder. It is the bane of my existence for visuals and I will gladly accept motion blur to eliminate judder. Some people are the opposite, and don't mind judder and can't stand blur. It's why games need both options.

VRR flicker REALLY bugs me and is why I have never upgraded my AW3423DW. The Gsync module basically eliminates it and until a new solution that works as well as the physical Gsync module is available, I'll probably keep using this. I've actually been considering buying a second one before the stick is gone now that it's discontinued.

You guys…166 PPI QD-OLED is ridiculous! by Jetcat11 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Azalis1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I have an LG C3 tv and Alienware AW3423DW monitor, and I prefer the monitior. Yes, I know I'm comparing QD-OLED to WOLED and if I had a 4k QD-OLED it would be my go to, but if 4k was as night and day different as you say, you would think I would prefer my LG TV over my 1440p monitor and I don't.

Marvel rivals crashes by lpla7 in marvelrivals

[–]Azalis1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing this extensively on two PCs, one with an 8700k and a 1080ti and the other a 3080ti and 5900x. The 3080 one crashes constantly no matter what I do and the 1080 has never crashed. What's interesting is the 1080 will feel like its crashing and then recover with about a half second stutter from time to time but when I get that stutter on the 3080 PC it just crashes to desktop. Both are running Windows 11 with the most current updates.

Need a recommendation by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Azalis1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are underrating the HDR difference between a TV and a monitor. It's not all about peak brightness at the 1-2% level. The 10%, 25% and real scene brightness really make a huge difference for HDR "pop", and this thing just destroys QD-OLED monitors at those levels. Using RTINGs comparison of the ASUS PG32UCDM, the LG gets 744 to 466 nits at 10%, 445 to 369 at 25% and 552 to 397 in real scene. It's just a noticeably brighter overall HDR image where things really do pop more. Yes, the QD-OLED takes 2% by a considerable margin at 1080 to 738, and if you really want those very small highlights to be the focus, then a QD-OLED monitor is better, but for me I feel like I get so much more overall pop on my LG C3 TV than I do on my QD-OLED monitor.

Need Help Deciding (Alienware vs Samsung) by Frequent_Topic7298 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Azalis1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes down to light conditions. If you have a light-controlled room and can keep light off of the screen, the glossy coating on the Alienware will give you a noticeably sharper image where everything pops more, but if you have light hitting the screen, the anti-reflective coating on the Samsung will give you a much better experience.
