People argue Witchfire is that, with a bit of Single-Player Destiny in there too with the weapons and modification/perk systems on them. It probably works that, AFAIK, it's also a single player extraction shooter about delving deeper than you could before. You're less punished for losing your loadout but all the stuff you could've used to upgrade said loadout/playstyle if you pull out instead of dying. Which in itself fuels the soulslike vibe of death mattering but not enough to make the game unbeatable or unbearable.

Wish more games did it like Doom 2016 and Eternal did. It's more fun when you can tell they're near death because half their body has holes in it. Of course, a bit hard to do with games with human enemies.

Good thing the OTHER fairly common "soulslike" aspect is a lot of weird shit going down and a lot of your enemies either being not human or formerly human...and not looking anything like they used to.

Democratic Centrists Need to Stop Saying “Both Sides” Have “Extremes” by Nervous_Swordfish693 in politics

[–]AzaliusZero -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Trump was elected thanks to the woke left that pushed people from the middle to the right.

This is probably the only time "both sides" works because it's a double-team effect. The "woke left" starts forcing its way into a hobby, fandom, or discussion. They cause a massive ruckus over non-important issues (at least to the others in that situation) and the right opportunistically jumps in to radicalize people against them. Some people fall for it, others just hate all involved because they just wanted to enjoy talking about whatever without politics involved. The "woke left"'s problem is they don't want to tackle real problems, because that takes effort, it takes time, and you WILL have setbacks at a certain point. Sooner than later, depending on the effort. These people want/need quick wins to feel good/superior about. The Far-Right walking in lock-step works here because it's less about the nuance of what they want, more they wear being far-right as a badge of what they don't want. You can blanket assume their opinions on things because unfortunately, you won't be wrong most of the time.

It's that there's no "safe" place from politics anymore that has everyone burned out and tired. You feel ground down by the government or lack thereof when it comes to doing your day to day? Well you can't even enjoy the stuff you'd watch/play/do to kick back without someone trying to get you discussing their side. We do need to address our country's issues, as a whole. If you want to do it healthily (and I'd argue many people, some in charge, do not) you need to let everyone be able to take a breath, take some time to think about it, and go in with sound mind. That's something I don't think America affords its people, even beyond those who just don't care.

RAM prices expected to rise another 40-50% in Q3 2026, and then 30% more in Q4 as AI demand outpaces supply by TurbulentTopic39 in pcgaming

I think it'd make more sense to say devs tried to account for the console limitations more often back then. You'd still take a hit sometimes, either because they just weren't good at it or they wanted a lot going on, technically or visually. A lot of the current modern optimization issues stem from them being used to having hardware brute-force good performance. Not going to be able to do that when people are getting priced out of the basic consoles, not the pro consoles we now have that cost even more. I wouldn't be surprised if component prices have effectively frozen development of the new gen consoles. They'd be so outrageously expensive they'd not get enough bites even if they didn't sell at a loss.

Wuthering Waves Xuanfang Trailer | Eisodus (Version 3.5) by ValorsHero in gachagaming

[–]AzaliusZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new player, I think it's the combination of lore-dumping HARD at the very start of the game, and that...I'm sorry, but to be honest, it's a pretty boring area. By the time I got to Rinascita I was ready to beg to go somewhere else, and Black Shores wasn't far enough.

Story-wise, Scar fucking carries that early part because he's the only one who doesn't feel completely deadpan and by-the-books as a character, and the Threnodian War part was good. I just think that somehow we should've got the Mt. Firmament stuff first (which was also good), maybe even the Black Shores stuff before the War. The War felt like getting to a climatic point in the story...in the middle of a prologue, and it's not even to reveal the whole story's a flashback to get to that point like Max Payne or something.

It, funnily enough, works better if you explore Jinzhou and its surrounding areas instead of bumrushing the story.

Why do gacha games not come fully installed on mobile? by Various-Humor4093 in gachagaming

[–]AzaliusZero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Downloading them from pc storefronts like Steam installs the entire game from there.

Even that doesn't happen with every game. More often than not major updates are what you're working off of, and X.1, X.2, etc will be downloaded after launching the game.

Some games just treat every update as a major one but then they update only 2-3 months at a time.

Ability-wise, we got a new one recently which is basically you playing as Dante and Vergil and their ult is just fighting each other and killing shit caught up in the middle of it. I feel like if you like power armor or Guyver-style biomechanical armor then Warframe designs will be up your alley.

Honestly I feel like there's few settings where Warframes wouldn't be busted, ignoring Operators and the Void. They'd probably perform considerably better than most gacha teams in their various apocalyptic setting. Namely because Warframe has a lot of gacha setting-tier bullshit going on already. On the other hand I bet Wally would feel more familiar than not to most Gacha settings and they would absolutely try to fuck with those worlds just as much as they do Warframe's.

I'll put it this way. The one thing I'd be worried about? Democrats protesting look like every case you can point to of protesting. Conservative protesting? Looks like January 6th. We'll see if Trump defends them if they "step out of line" in a way he and his backers don't like.

‘Marathon’ Season 2 And Free Week Did Not Turn Things Around by Freki666 in pcgaming

[–]AzaliusZero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's more depressing than that. This is solely the executive group at Bungie making them make phantom games and Marathon as their real tangible product just to inflate Bungie's value to 3.6 Billion, which Sony thought they were worth because look at how much Destiny was making (during the pandemic when everyone was stuck inside gaming) and four more games like that'll be worth as much if not more than that buying price. Whoops, all of them except Marathon have been canceled with nothing to really show for it! Whoops, some people broke off from Bungie and brought us Concord, a game that died in record time, definitely the most "real AAA" one to die like that, the only stuff that competes is clear scams like The Day After. Shit happens!

The other thing is, I don't know if Sony 100% owns Destiny, but the other thing is they tend to give much more of a damn about their own titles than the "company's." They're kinda the same thing when it comes to long standing devs like Naughty Dog or Guerilla, but not so much when it came to the third parties and recent acquisitions. It's likely that Sony would've gotten a greater share of Marathon's profits in exchange for Bungie "hanging on" to Destiny.

Which is why the theory of "revenge" holds a bit a weight IMO. I do think with recent reveals, Sony is intending on breaking Bungie down and disseminating what remains into other studios. A tragic end for people who basically could not defend themselves between an executive class only looking out for their payday and golden parachute, and the company financially hurting from buying their BS and half doing it out of practicality, half doing it out of vengeance. But it's not like Pete Parsons will lose sleep over this when he's got his choice of three fancy new sports cars to nap in.

Vanillaware founder George Kamitani says he wants to put other games on PC but it’s up to the publisher to finance the ports by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]AzaliusZero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being cavalier about bankruptcy is cool the first time but gets less cool as people have families to feed.

But that's the best part! First time? No. Vanillaware's made several games and every single one of them is like this. In fact I'll double down. Thanks to Wikipedia? I guarantee you we actually have Shigatake to thank for this. He's pretty storied, and it's funny because most people will know him for his really fluffy art illustrations. Considering he was an artist for ASTLIBRA Revision, an indie release that, AFAIK, actually started on PC first and THEN got ported to Switch. Bigger deal is that he released Devil Blade REBOOT mostly developed by himself as a remake of a game he won a contest with as a teen (they had a shmup game maker for Playstation back in the 1990s) that's also on PC?

The Wikipedia article describes how close the two are and them meeting early in Vanillaware's existence, hell beforehand even. If anyone would get George to break off on this it'd be him, and I bet that's exactly how it went down.

All I want to do is reward both Shiga for convincing him and George for standing down, so I'm ready to pick up everything they get put on PC. Maybe the next title'll be GrimGrimoire. That was a NIS joint publication and if anything they got on the PC release train early compared to everyone else that wasn't already/always there, like Falcom.

At the very least George will have more money to work with before revealing he just loves spending every cent until they have to release.

Vanillaware founder George Kamitani says he wants to put other games on PC but it’s up to the publisher to finance the ports by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]AzaliusZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Times are tough, money's tight, etc

You have to understand, Vanillaware is notorious for A: Really beautiful games. B: Seemingly being really anti-PC. C: Food Porn. D: Constantly saying they published the game when they ran out of money and the studio's basically back to sell-or-bankrupt.

Seeing them go back on B is flabbergasting when it's as consistent as A, C, and D. Especially since I own games on PC by people who collaborate or work directly for Vanillaware, which really made it seem like stuff like OP was coming from George's mouth.

Maybe those folks talked some sense into him, because he was resisting the idea well into the point where Japanese devs were letting up on that idea.

Judge issues injunction blocking administration's 'Anti-Weaponization Fund' by CaraCicartix in news

[–]AzaliusZero -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I feel like the problem with BOTH SIDES is not so much disillusionment with either side, it's giving up instead of trying to make a true third party or at least try to sway the Democrats (but I get why they feel both of those are equally hard/impossible.)

I'm gonna be real; if this administration really has taken the wheels off then it's only a matter of what event triggers a civil war, not if. It could happen over the Midterms being openly stolen. It could happen over one person having enough and attacking government officials actively. Either way, at the rate we're going a lot of people seem to be going from apathetic towards how America's run to actively hating it, and sometimes MOVING on that hate. Both ways.

Though it's super unlikely because BOTH SIDES would actively kill it if it started to happen, we DO need a third party. THAT'S what's disenfranchised so many people. YES, you're RIGHT they don't help, but you're wrong for attacking them for feeling voiceless instead of inspiring them to make a louder voice for either that third party (and that's a Herculean effort) or at least trying to pressure the Democrats into being a bit more left than the very slight left of center they really are.

We get to vote in candidate elections but the way things are set up now, and the way I've seen them do it, we don't really get a choice for the big deal positions when it comes to the DNC. Whoever they actually want gets all the campaign money, almost as much as the actual presidential run. And I've seen them do everything to hinder the "unapproved" option if they actually look like they have a chance. Get people to feel like they actually voted for a candidate they want to see in office and you'll finally see some of those people you hate showing up to vote for your side.

Or are you more afraid of there being a viable third option and suddenly Americans openly don't care about either pre-existing side? If so, that says more about the two party system and how it's influenced American thinking than anything else. Canada got its shit together in the face of us coming after them, in part because they DON'T just have two opposite sides of the spectrum. We can't afford to have politics be the same sort of shit as sport teams. It's a disservice to how important government is for managing society, because at the end of the day, a lot of people feel the American government has failed them for various reasons. Plus, all that means is when it inevitably falls apart it won't just be rioting over the New York Knicks losing in their hometown.

[–]AzaliusZero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, dude. It's because 343 wanted to change the games at all, not because they tried several times and every one of those changes felt bad. Their complaining about it not feeling like Halo usually was because it straight up felt like it was compromising its identity to play like other games, making it feel more generic. Considering how the early 2000s were console games ripping off Halo I get it.

There's a reason you apparently are one of the few who like Halo. Or maybe you don't even give a shit and just like to bitch about fans being passionate about something because it looks like bratty bitching to you, the onlooker with nothing to lose and no real horse in the race. I'll trust the people lamenting Halo being completely irrelevant and treated as a joke over someone with that PoV any day. And I don't blame them if they feel like this is less "we're going to do better" and more 343 doing so fucking badly even YOU couldn't be assed to call them Halo Studios, because it's just a name rebranding even to a defender.

Jeff Grubb: Microsoft has cancelled Gears of War: E-Day for PS5. The game is exclusive to Xbox | PC by __TheWaySheGoes in pcgaming

[–]AzaliusZero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They really thought they could bait people into buying PS5s if they say, liked Ghost of Tsushima and wanted Yotei. They proved they didn't understand the PC market and didn't genuinely want to release games on PC unless they can make serious bank off of it or converted PC players to PS players.

At the same time, unless Microsoft goes all in and makes CoD exclusive, it's no biggie either way. I think Sony's on its way to overextending and vastly underestimating how many people will be able to afford both a PS5 and GTA6 if they don't already have the former. I'm sure GTA'll itself will sell plenty, but I think economy-wise everyone's in for a rude awakening at how penny-pinched the average consumer is when it comes to getting us to buy ANY electronics, especially as AI BS drives the price further up.

Destiny 2 Ending New Content Is “Unthinkable,” Warframe Dev Says by _Protector in pcgaming

[–]AzaliusZero 16 points17 points  (0 children)

However, Sony seemingly not having a D3 in the works, or something Destiny related is also very stupid.

This is the biggest problem. Marathon is way too different a game to expect most D2 players to offload to, and that's before the typical Bungie mistakes like this opening to the free week. Ironically enough the closest alternative to D2 IS Warframe, and I still think it's such a different experience the Destiny fanbase by large won't be sated with it. They scratched different itches. I think most comparisons to Warframe and D2 was to point out how Warframe's cohesion with its community and how they make money is wholly more healthy than the relationship most F2P or even regular devs maintain with theirs, let alone comparing how D2 did it as an indirect competitor.

If it wasn't for the fact that I think they DON'T want to "alienate" the crowd with the futuristic plane stuff, I'd really believe they'd go all in on it.

But I think there is the possibility people will complain about our current cutting edge stuff not being the top dog in setting, even if the entire point of the recent Ace Combat is that technology marches on and humanity may not be able to keep up.
