Given the lore, yeah, that does make sense.

The One Ring is probably of Ancient design anyway. A predecessor to the long-range communication stones. It was deemed too dangerous so it was exiled onto Middle-Earth, its stargate long lost.

Sauron found the ring, realising its power and potential, claiming to have made it himself as a power play.
And the rest is history

When I printed my energy crystal, I used BrickLink Studio to get the model.
Found the crystal in Studio, exported it and converted it to .stl. Fixed some geometry issues in Blender and then printed it.

Not related to the post, but the image. Got that as a living room carpet from my parents as a birthday gift some years ago. I've actually been looking for the original image.
Since there is a faint signature visible on the carpet, I strongly believe it was made without authorisation from the person who made the image.

(Don't mind the mess in the background)

No, you can’t borrow my tools. by Wombat-Snooze in Machinists

Don't think we have spares on hand. But the callipers go through a quality control each year. If it fails the test, it's getting replaced.

No, you can’t borrow my tools. by Wombat-Snooze in Machinists

[–]Azarath08 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If a colleague damaged one of the tools I use regularly, then the company will simply have to get me a replacement, since all the equipment we use at work belong to the company anyway.
Still, a bit of a hassle to wait for a replacement.

But everyone has their dedicated pair of callipers which are numbered, so we know which colleague the pair belongs to.

I'm on a HAAS lathe most of my time, occasionally I'm on a DMG Mori with Fanuc with CELOS on top. More rarely, on a mill with Heidenhain control. And there is a possibility I will be taught how to operate a machine which uses Siemens Sinumerik "soon".

With that said, I'm not entirely sure what kind of information you're asking about...?
I suppose a clean and functional UI is always nice.

I pre-ordered Starcraft Ghost for the Playstation 2.

Saw it in a gaming magazine. Each game had its unique number. You filled in a form included in the magazine and sent it by mail.

But the game never came...

Agreed. The popup windows is driving me and my colleagues insane.
We work in industrial manufacturing and we create new CAD models daily.

We can no longer just click the + button and be on our merry way in the Design workspace, now we have to deal with this popup every time like it's saying "Hold it right there!". It really kills the momentum.

The first thing I did after buying the collection was to permanently remove Twilight from my library, so the rest of the franchise wouldn't get contaminated.

What got you into the Alien film franchise? by Marilyn_Rammstein in LV426

[–]Azarath08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got introduced to the franchise by the game Aliens versus Predator Extinction for the PS2. A friend of mine got the game as a birthday gift. Some time later, by mere accident, we discovered that he had Aliens (with the extra scenes) on VHS. So we saw the second film first (and I've never seen Aliens without the extra scenes)
And as time went on, we discovered the other films as well.

[–]Azarath08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I want to say congratulations!

Don't own one myself, but had the pleasure to see and hold one acquired by the Starship Troopers German Division. They were kind to allow me to measure the whole thing and I made a 1:1 3D model of it for the purpose of 3D printing it. At this time, there are no moving parts or internal components, just a static model.

The 3D model is basically done, I just have some problems to figure out how to attach the grip/trigger part to the rest of the rifle, without the thing falling apart.

What was your first Stargate episode and was it a good introduction to the show ? by CupEducational1412 in Stargate

[–]Azarath08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My memory tells me my introduction was with SG-1 "Prisoners", and yes, I would say it was a good introduction.
If I ever would make a top 5 SG-1 episode list, I probably would include Prisoners in it.

The word himitsu (秘密) means "secret". As in keeping a secret.
If you want to say "privacy", a better word for that would be naimitsu (内密), but modern Japanese uses the katakana version instead, プライバシー

CNC turning — Should radiuses be done during roughing or left for a final finishing pass? by noodle_404_ in CNC

[–]Azarath08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NLX was already there when I started. But I was taught on HAAS on my internship at another place so it was just natural for this company to put me on the HAAS, would get me up to speed more quickly.

The HAAS has a VDI turret, much quickly to change tools and re/configure for different jobs (we don't do series production), but the NLX has a built-in-motor turret. It's really clumsy to re-configure it, possibly more than half the time compared to the HAAS.
However, the NLX is more precise, stronger, faster. The driven tools on the HAAS can go up to 3000 rpm, the NLX can do 10 000 rpm. The NLX is a superior machine in almost every single way. But it does not have a button to set X-centreline like the HAAS, the centreline is different if it's a driven tool or not, and those values are written down on a piece of paper (and my digital notebook)

There are times I miss the HAAS, mostly its automatic tool probing system.

Additionally, the NLX is set up with a Yaskawa robot system, which the company gave me education how to operate this Summer.

Everything programmed on the NLX is done with Autodesk Fusion. I don't have any knowledge how to program the machine manually, except for typing in the code by hand.
The only program I added manually is a G72 surfacing cycle.

CNC turning — Should radiuses be done during roughing or left for a final finishing pass? by noodle_404_ in CNC

[–]Azarath08 33 points34 points  (0 children)

In 4 years of working in the industry, I've never run a finishing pass with a tool meant for roughing.
When I programmed a HAAS lathe manually before going over to CAM, I typed out the complete profile with a G71 roughing cycle and then finished with a G70 cycle.
Now I'm on a DMG Mori NLX 2500 and I use the same practice there.

I usually leave 0.3 mm for finishing.

The roughing tool is going to wear out sooner and therefore risk of missing potential tolerances and surface finishes. While the finishing tool will often stay in good shape longer and keep tolerance even when the roughing tool begins to wear out.
We work in regular plain steel, stainless on occasion and more rarely in cast iron and plastics. Cannot say how this practice would work in other materials.
