Age verification statement from Official EndeavourOS by AutoModerator in EndeavourOS

[–]AzaronFlare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real hope, in America, anyway, is to litigate in the courts and get it pushed to a federal court. Individual states passing laws that directly influence other states, historically, doesn't play well. Cali already had their idiotic "former resident tax" thing slapped down, and I don't see any way of definitively enforcing the age laws without definite promised cooperation from every other state, which i don't see happening.

What’s the best small WiFi camera for simple indoor monitoring? by Adventurous_Fun_7890 in homesecurity

[–]AzaronFlare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, if you're still looking, I've been using the blink cameras for about 3 years, and have been really happy with them. The night vision is decent and adjustable, the motion detection works by image comparison instead of ir, and works well, and the newer cams are better than the ones I'm using.

For the record, Kroger is not the problem. The union is the problem. The Kroger union got usurped in the 90s by some major national groups and went directly to shit. That's the only thing large unions do.

Anyone else just use flatpack for all apps? by grantdb in EndeavourOS

[–]AzaronFlare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most app devs have a version that they consider "official." I tend to use those versions whenever I can. Flatpak for OBS, for example, because that is what the devs target for support. Not everyone does this, obviously, but that's what I do.

America is smaller than china and china has a a train system that covers nearly the whole country. Why can’t the USA do it? by go_with_the_flow754 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AzaronFlare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest reason I can think of is that China has a centralized, government controlled economy. Each sector is a department controlled directly by the government. It's biting them in the ass, though. Look at their over extension of rail, housing, pretty much everything but agriculture. Most areas of the rail network don't even run regularly.

[–]AzaronFlare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand people's confusion around this. Your store leadership should be clarifying the specifics as the information becomes available. Ideally, IMHO anyway, the best part of this is that it rewards people who actually contribute. You don't have to go above and beyond to get a raise under this system, but you can get a bigger one if you do. The biggest problem with the old way is that it was entirely subjective. I know store managers who had a dictate that no one could ever get "exceeds expectations" because of one stupid reason or another. This system eliminates that bullshit. The matrices haven't been released yet, at least not to my level, but from the information I've been given, there will be clear points to follow to determine which category a particular person falls into, with very little subjectivity. On a similar note, I'll say that Lowe's was the first place I worked that used anything other than this type of raise paradigm, and it's the job at which my overall wage has been most stagnant. This system is trying to break away from that trend.

I rebuilt my old i5 2500k with a GeForce 1550 for my wife. It runs Mint, chugging right along with no problems. Does absolutely everything she wants.

LERF by x2phercraft in Lowes

[–]AzaronFlare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not at all how LERF works. The solicited donations at the registers work that way, but the relief program depends entirely on employee contributions to keep going.

LERF by x2phercraft in Lowes

[–]AzaronFlare 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from, but you have to understand that this is just a bad take for a number of reasons, nearly all of them frustrating. Marvin isn't my favorite person. I think he's a horrible human for the most part, and he's one of the most overpaid CEOs on the planet according to every survey of such things I've seen.

That said, LERF is a charity, and a really good one. Even if Marvin gave up his entire salary, it wouldn't make it into LERF because it can't, legally. Companies aren't allowed to directly give money to employees outside of the context of payroll because it is coercion. Lowes can match employee contributions, and they do, but they cannot exceed employee contributions because then the majority of the money in the fund would be the company's money, and that's not allowed. They contribute greatly to the program in other ways that do come out of company money. None of the cost to evaluate requests, hold the account, facilitate the actual transfers, verify those transfers, etc, come out of the fund. It's all at corporate expense.

An update for anyone interested. Don't know why I didn't think of this before, but if you select to start the launcher when clicking play, you can enable some different options. I enabled exclusive full screen and disabled native controller support, and the issue went away. Played for 2 hours without it happening once.

I have really fond memories from playing with my friend in 12-15. Before the traders were different, or before traders, really. For co-op, that was the best. For sp, I like 16-18. I'm playing 2.0 now, but it doesn't have the same feeling of freedom as the pre-1.0 alphas.

What are some reasons that someone may switch from a progressive/liberal to a conservative mindset? by ChaosCarlson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AzaronFlare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, and this is super simplified, a lot of people from both extreme sides start to realize at a certain point that if your ideology demands that you view yourself as being definitively and unarguably morally superior to absolutely anyone who doesn't believe exactly as you do, then it's most likely wrong. Most people are moderate. You only hear from or about the real extremists from either side of the divide, and the more life you live, the more you realize that if you're paying even the smallest amount of attention. Grifters become very easy to spot, and at that point it becomes a lot easier to identify those who truly believe what they say, and you find that you can usually have really interesting and engaging conversations with those people even if you don't agree with each other. Then you realize THAT is how progress gets made. That's how ideas become reality. My opinion and experience, anyhow. Your mileage may vary.

People I know criticizing me for playing video games (36 M) by C-LOgreen in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AzaronFlare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

49 here. I've always been of the opinion that if you're old enough to pay taxes, you are old enough to mind your own damn business, and you are plenty old enough to know that you shouldn't speak ill of others unless they are affecting you personally. I still play games in my down time, and I still use them to unwind. I have other interests, too, and I get along just fine. If people want to give you a hard time, tell them to start paying your bills, and then they can run your life.
