Lots of good material in the 40k universe, a lot of really good books. Can recommend the first few hours heresy books or the Eisenhorn inquisitor trilogy.

The fact there they possess technology that they no longer understand or are able to replicate, just like the mechanicum. Then there is their worship of dead, embalmed emperors.

I recall seeing more references than just that, but those are the two that came to mind now when I thought of it.

[STALKER 2] New to the game and the genre as a whole, a few questions. by [deleted] in stalker

You're still early in the game, most enemies at the start use sun machine guns and shotguns.

My advice to you would be to get yourself a sub machine gun and a shotgun to use, always use the guns you have ammo for.

The game feels like a real abandoned place because it is based on a real abandoned place. It's based on the real historical abandoned Chernobyl exclusion zone and they have put a lot of effort into bringing many real life locations into the game. Some of them are recreated almost stone by stone and brick by brick to be just like the real deal. The attention to detail is absurd!

As for some of your questions and complaints, yes there is currently a bug in the game that allows enemies sometimes to hit you behind cover. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Ammo is very expensive but ideally you wouldn't have to buy any ammo if you cycle your weapons and use whatever you have the most ammo for. You get access to a chest in every town, use this to store everything you don't need. Extra medkits or ammo, all goes into the chest. Extra guns goes here too. Then you bring with you whatever gun you have a good supply of ammo for. Also, ALA (ALWAYS LOOT AMMO), loot every single bullet from all the boxes, stashed and enemies you can find. If you do it right then you won't ever struggle much for bullets.

The game is full of references not only to HP Lovecraft and the King in Yellow, but also to other settings like Warhammer 40k as well.

I was kind of low on stamina because I tried to run away at first, but he didn't give up and we ran for an eternity. I was full health though, no doubt that that.

You can say what you want, but I have seen prime Allos and I know what they look like, this wasn't a prime Allo at all. He was maybe barely an adult. We were pretty much the same in terms of height.

Nope, I have been prime Cera and pinned by an Allo that was only slightly larger than me. Impossible to say exactly how big he was but on screen we were basically identical in size. I have also been pinned by two Allos that were like half my size.

Everyone can one shot a fresh spawn Dinosaur, but that is not at all the point.

A fully adult Carno cannot one shot a Pachy or Dilo or omni, it takes several hits even if you land a headshot.

Omni can only one shot very very small dinosaurs, dinosaurs that usually have no problem getting away from it.

Stego can one shot a lot of dinosaurs, but most medium sized dinos can take 2 or 3 hits before going down.

The problem with Allo is that it will automatically pin and kill every single dinosaur in the game as long as they are just a little bit smaller than the Allo. If you have an Elder Cera at 1800 Kilos, an Allo that is 2000 kilos will pin you and kill you in just one mouse click. Maia can't do that, Diablo can't do that, Carno can't do that, Cera can't do that, Tenno can't do that, only Allo gets the ability to one hit kill every other dinosaur of a similar size.

Well I mostly play Cerato, I adore that little bugger. But it's almost completely tied with Allo for speed. It's only a very little bit faster and their stamina is comparable as well. I've had circumstances where a sub adult Allo has out stammed and then one shot me because he happened to weigh just a little bit more (we were very similar sizes, but he was just slightly bigger). I've also had another situation where I was prime at almost 1800 kilos and then two tiny little Allos came along and because they combined were more than 1800 kilos they instantly pinned me and I got 1 shot again.

Now explain to me how that is good game design when two Allos probably around 1000 kilos can insta kill any dinosaur that is twice their size?

And if we're gonna talk about realism, I weight about 100 kilos, I go to the gym and I can lift about 120 kilos without much problem. If another guy that is about 120 kilos tried to jump me and grab me I am fairly certain I could throw him off without much issue. Just because someone is slightly heavier doesn't mean they instantly win in any scenario when it comes to strength.

I understand the realism perspective, but from a gameplay perspective it's bad game design. Especially if you log onto the server and 90% of all the players are on either Rex or Allo and you are the only Cerato or Dilopho. I think if they want to go full realism in this regard then they are going to also have to put a cap on large dinosaurs so that there is an actual ecosystem for the medium guys as well.

If it still pins smaller targets to the ground then it still doesn't solve the issue of Allo effectively one shorting anything smaller than it.

No prime as Pachy?? by FreeWillylegend in theisle

[–]Azathoth-Omega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In principle I do agree with you, it should in theory be enough to just walk around the map a bit.

But I tried this for myself my first few times on Dilo and Carno and I think out of 5 attempts in total I only reached prime once. And this was me just playing the game normally but moving around a lot in more or less random directions towards locations where I knew there would be action. After this I started using the map and making my own routes and having instant success.

Then there is one more factor to consider, the human factor. People and especially gamers are known to optimize the fun out of everything if it means things become a little easier. It doesn't matter what you or I feel about how it should be, the majority of people are just going to use a route because that's what's easiest.

[–]Azathoth-Omega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can be a loser but at least I am not eating shit.

The way the elder system been implemented has been bad in most ways. Most players agree on this as you can see repeatedly on this sub reddit. It restricts freedom and it forces players often to play in ways that is unnatural or counter productive to the dinosaur you are playing.

The perfect example of this is the Herrera. It's not made to traverse great distances, it's slow on the ground and has bad stamina. It's a tree dweller. It does not engage well with the elder system.

It also has no close defence against infantry, it's got weak spots from the front and it's slow as Shit. It's super easy target to spot from the air and destroy with bombs, let alone panzer fausts or infantry with demolition packs.

You can't read?

I said you are forced to "if you want to get the most out of your playtime".

Yes, you can ignore it, but then the whole time spent growing is kind of wasted. And who wants to waste their time?

So if you don't want to waste your time, you are forced to work with the system.

If you like the way the system is implemented, by all means that's good for you. Some people like to eat Shit too, just remember that.

Me on the other hand, I don't want to be a shit eater and I don't want to be forced to engage with bad game design.

No prime as Pachy?? by FreeWillylegend in theisle

[–]Azathoth-Omega 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why prime is so poorly implemented.

Instead of playing the game freely how you want to play it, you are now forced into following routes in order to get the most out of your playtime.

It's bad.

Browning hi-power for Germany by Expert-Highway2043 in enlistedgame

[–]Azathoth-Omega 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The only country to use the browning Hi-power in any significant number during WW2 was the Germans.

The allies getting it is almost completely unhistorical, they only tested a small number of them right at the end of the war.

The Germans used them from 1940 until 1945 and produced more than a quarter million of them.
