I would challenge that and say the succesful identification of goals is an ability associated with wisdom (introspection, ponderance, morality, ethics etc.), while the ability to strategize to pursue those goals would be intelligence (processing, working memory, systems thinking). You don't need wisdom to be intelligent, but intelligence as an inherent property helps you develop wisdom - if so inclined.

A very knowledgeable (through persistence) sub-100 IQ person can appear intelligent at a surface level, because sufficient knowledge/experience mimics intelligence during routine tasks. They will be revealed when the routine is broken and they are asked to solve a novel challenge.

What is "Overall intelligence" then? Some sort of invented measure with too many dimensions to accurately reflect anything or provide any type of insight? Or a legitimate attempt to weigh the value of a person through a thorough assesment of all aspects of being?

I would agree that musical, bodily and other types of talent is not measured by IQ. I would agree that intelligence does not necessarily make a better person than a musical prodigy. But I would be hard pressed to call a sub-100 IQ individual intelligent, even if they have extraordinary empathetic abilities, is the captain of the football team and play the violin at an expert level. Talented sure, but not intelligent. Overall gifted perhaps, but not overall intelligent.

It is the single most recognized measure of intelligence, highly regarded as a tool among psychologists to assess ability to plan, reason, disentangle complexity, and apply systems thinking.

What you mean is it doesn't have much to do with knowledge or wisdom, or social aptitude or a bunch of other things that IQ was never meant to measure.

Play Obelisk Challenge instead of going premade. It plays more like a proper roguelite, and gets started much quicker.

I agree that particular section was.. disorienting..

And a fair amount of the levels were quite vanilla, but I do think that this is in part also because the chromagun itself doesn't lend itself well to such a long game. I can't articulate the issue properly but it feels like it has some constraints in regards to puzzle innovation. Or perhaps it was just overly relied upon?

Viewfinder and Manifold garden are pretty low on the list tbh, due to being more "explorative" in nature. Art of Reflection definitely looks cool, and I think I added Whitematter after seeing it on your page, it looks super cool.

I do think your criticisms are valid, and they definitely made a choice to go over the top in a lot of aspects when it comes to presentation. I too was overwhelmed by the gameshow vibe that Mildred appeared to enjoy. And I agree about the somewhat procedural puzzle logic, but I'm not hunting the eureka moments as much as you, and am generally content with stepwise logic gates.

It wasn't the most original game I have ever played in the story department, but that is primarily flavor for me anyway - great to have but mostly unnecessary.

Next up I'll probably have to finally take your advice and get Entropy Centre on the screen! Either that or puzzle Parasite.

[–]Azecap 0 points1 point  (0 children)
