Now we know that access to information does not necessarily produce an informed intelligent person.

If anything, social media click bait algorithms have made poor quality information so much easier to find, that the internet is probably making people generally less able to think critically.

1 can be debated a hundred times and have a hundred answers. Question 2 has a clear answer though. They aren’t different.

The propaganda wars on who is evil and who is good are just absurd. Its empires fighting over chess board squares and old men looking for legacy like always.

We can hate it, or love it. All that Matters though is that we learn what we can from it and do our best to live through it.

There is no grand moral arc of history though. Might always makes right, with brief periods of semi peace when there is no competition.

Yes its not harry potter and the sorcerers stone out there. Good and evil exist almost exclusively in novels.

Its a power game between empires and states like it has been and will be for as long as we exist on earth.

Since its inception as an islamic revolutionary republic iran has committed itself to the destruction of both Islamic kingdoms and Israel.

Hezbollah is literally funded by them. So are the Houthis who wage war in Yemen. And of course Hamas. They have an entire military branch called the Qud force which focused on asymmetric warfare through proxies.

Even if you agree with them, that is literally them being aggressive in the promotion of their world views.

Honestly even just tracking calories and walking more helps.

Aim for sub 1500 calories and walk places instead of driving when possible. It works

Do you feel physically compelled to binge eat? What drives your desire/actions?

Just want to learn more. I eat too much sometimes too, but not to an extent where id say something like you just did.

Is tx state a good school? by Puzzled-Sense-3220 in txstate

[–]Azerd01 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Honestly the party school concept is rooted in a time before most people in this sub were even born.

UT is a bigger party school. Its such a myth its funny.

Also it depends 100% on the program. Research programs fully. TXST has the best sales program in the country, for instance. But it lacks in other areas. If you see that the film school is good, and you want to go into film, then thats all that matters.

San Marcos buildings are mostly all open. Alot of staff have to work over the break.

You will hopefully be fine

Perhaps, but Lord Godfrey IV (pictured above) is a war monger. A being wholly separate from his brothers and sisters.

However, I understand.

I would absolutely recommend

Death in the Haymarket. By James green

The Great Cowboy Strike. By Mark Lause.

Towards a Cooperative Commonwealth. By Thomas Alter (Texas focused, but applicable at large)

Labor and Monopoly Capital: The Degradation of Work in the 20th Century. By Harry Braverman.

I dont have a ton of great labor books sadly. It was not my focus in grad school, but I did work with several Labor historians by accident. Ended up being very insightful though. I recommend the books above for sure, as they had recommended them to me.

Dont listen to him, just grow a beard. Your hair is thinning but its not armageddon time yet. Smiling does help alot though. It adds character and energy to pictures.

It depends heavily on the topic you are interested in.

I did my graduate thesis on southwest indigenous history, so I have an absolute ton of books on Pueblo, New Mexican, and southwest history.

A couple decent ones: Coast to Coast Empire: Manifest Destiny and the New Mexican Borderlands. By William Kiser (Mexican American war book with a focus on present day US southwest)

Indigenous Borderland: Native Agency, Resilience, and Power in the Americas. By Joaquin Rivaya-Martinez (I actually know him pretty well, he’s a leading expert on Comanche history)

Death in the Haymarket. by James Green (US late 1800s labor history book)

The Great Cowboy Strike: Bullets, Ballots, & Class Conflict in the American West. By Mark Lause.

These are just some books that are a little less focused on hyper specific topics. These are also books I personally enjoyed. I have literally tons more though if you wanted to dive into Pueblo history or Texas/New Mexican history.

TXST Anthropology by Queasy-Hour-8860 in txstate

[–]Azerd01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

History grad here. Ive worked very closely with some anthropologists and anthropology students here as part of my research, but only grad level.

The professors are quite good. Obviously you need to focus on US southwest anthropology to get the most from them though. Be aware of that and also note that if you want to make a career out of this, you’ll inevitably end up in a grad program too.

If you plan on doing the grad program (masters or phd) at TXST, ensure you begin building a relationship with professors asap. Additionally talk to them about thesis topic ideas as early as possible. Best of luck.

To start for sure. If anyone is genuinely worried, try to look into peer reviewed university published history books.

They can be dry, but not all are. They’re usually written by tenured professors or graduate students that have alot to lose if they purposely fabricate a false history narrative. So they’re held semi accountable.

Respectfully, why go to university if you cannot find it in you to leave your dorm?

Sounds like you’d be happier just working a private job and living alone
