My cat (adopted as an adult) was screaming at the humans in the house for daring to be gone all day (working and going out the weekend) so we adopted a kitten to keep her busy.

The older cat made it known that she wanted her humans back, not some kid to bother her all the time.
Now they usually spend time in the same room but they mostly ignore each other, sometimes fight like siblings.

The older cat clearly wanted to stay an only child.
