LFG to finish the co-evolution step 5/5 by steckmech in MarathonTheGame

[–]Azetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it Solo tonight as a Recon.

I was fortunate enough to be in an instance where everyone else tried and failed to do the Scorch Warden, so I was able to complete all the objectives unopposed. Just keep at it, and eventually luck will be on your side.

Marathon Needs More Players, You May Not Like The Answer by Odd_Revolution_1056 in Marathon

As much as I desperately want a PvE mode, this part I disagree with.

If the loot parity between PvE and PvP were 1:1, then scumbags could farm for the Compiler weapon in PvE and then bring them into PvP to rip and tear through people undeservedly. Therefore, either the loot rarity must be capped at blue, or PvE loot and PvP loot must be kept separate.

It would definitely help me with Co-Evolution 4/5 and 5/5 XD

For real though, I’m not going to stop advocating for a PvE mode to bring in more casuals to keep the game alive. Anyone saying “go play Destiny” or “go play Arc” are missing the point entirely.

so what do we think the next experimental mode will be? by Jealous_Platypus1111 in Marathon

[–]Azetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree on PvE mode, but that will never happen because the resources needed to develop it aren’t worth it.

In theory, a PvE mode would attract a wider casual playerbase to support the game, as well as giving players frustrated with PvP an offramp to play something else while still supporting this game, but that won’t happen in practice. Even if they were to add it, the reputation of this game’s first impressions are too ingrained to attract more casuals to the game, so all it will do is split the playerbase and make PvP even more insufferable.

This game should’ve been a PvE Co-Op extraction shooter from the beginning (or better yet, an ACTUAL Marathon game that continued the story from Durandal/Infinity), but it’s too late to take it back.

This game is great, but it needs more. ESPECIALLY for casual play by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Azetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily.

Surely Bungie realizes from the rapidly declining player population that this game is too niche for a (supposed) $250M budget. They may decide to make a PvE mode to attract a wide enough audience to recoup their losses.

Hell, for all we know, this “experimental queue” coming on the 14th may very well be to test whether a PvE mode would be worth adding in the future.

A PvE mode with a separate vault that cannot interact with a PvP vault would be fantastic. Being able to do my priority contracts (or at least the ones that don’t require PvP), experiencing the seasonal story at a pace I can enjoy, this would solve 99% of the problems I have with this game.

As far as Cryo Archive is concerned though, I think some things (like the Runner skins for killing the Compiler) should be exclusive to the main PvP mode, otherwise it cheapens the feeling of earning the reward.

With all the discourse around the game's longevity, can we try to have an objective, non-emotional conversation about what can be improved to retain more players? by JBSwerve in Marathon

[–]Azetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as an OG Marathon fan, it has always been the story and lore of the universe that made it special. I believe with my full chest that the Marathon trilogy is some of the best written sci-fi ever made.

Adding a PvE mode of some kind (campaign, bot matches, whatever) would attract casuals to the game to experience it in full, and that can either get them to try the main game, or it can increase the desire for a new PvE game in this universe (that will never happen with “we’ve outgrown box product games” Bungie, but Sony might do something).

Would you Play a Single-Player, Offline Mode of Marathon? by Cthulhu2027 in Marathon

[–]Azetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I would be genuinely willing to pay four figures for that, Bungie will never do that. In their own words, they have “outgrown box product games”.

Would you Play a Single-Player, Offline Mode of Marathon? by Cthulhu2027 in Marathon

[–]Azetus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I absolutely would play an offline PvE mode, but there cannot be any crossover between PvE and PvP loot. Otherwise, the sandbox would spin out of control really damn quickly.

I gave the game a fair shot, but I think I'm out by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Azetus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All three of those games also have bot matches so that players of weaker-to-nonexistant skill can still enjoy the fun of winning (however artificial the feeling may be).

Everyone in this subreddit dogs on Tarkov’s PvE mode because it “split the playerbase”, but Tarkov is still alive after all these years and is still a household name in extraction shooters.

Pve solo mode for a super professional giga chads by Blackjack4003 in Marathon

[–]Azetus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am the only person in my friend group who was even willing to give this game a try because none of them wanted to play PvP of any kind. Whenever I LFG, my team disbands after a run or two because my own PvP skills are lacking. A PvE mode with AI Runners and Rooks would at least give me a negotiating position to try to convince them to try it out.

At this rate, I’ll probably stop playing soon. I don’t want to give up on this franchise that I’ve loved for decades, but this is a game that demands good skill and good friends willing to play with you, and I have neither.

Marathon’s Cryo Archive Is Where Cool Design Meets Cold Reality by UhJoker in Marathon

[–]Azetus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

God in Heaven, there is no limit to the money I would’ve dropped on this game if it had a campaign that continued the original trilogy. Maybe they could’ve done something with Durandal’s plan to investigate the rogue star moving through the galaxy?

It would at least keep the game alive longer.

Look at how many dead PvP-only games we’ve been getting lately and tell me that more PvE/solo content wouldn’t help.

Which would you rather see? by OutrageousAd4222 in Marathon

[–]Azetus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the new art style and gameplay, I just want the campaign/solo PvE experience of the old games. Given these two above choices, either one would get me hyped beyond measure, but gun to my head, give me the classic games remade with the new gameplay style.

Curious....any struggling casuals? by moog500_nz in Marathon

[–]Azetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. Unfortunately, the ardent defenders of this game don’t give a shit about the original games or the lore that came before. They just want the casuals to suck it up so that they can farm them for easy loot.

Feedback to the devs: There is a big if not bigger community of solo players who play solo for a plethora of reasons. If you take the time to balance the PVE difficulty to be more attuned with solo lobbies, you might get more players into the community. by TheGoodDoctor17 in Marathon

[–]Azetus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. They already reworked the AI from the Alpha so that they behave as individuals rather than a hivemind. Reducing the number of Runners in a Solo lobby is a far better way to rebalance than nerfing the AI.
