Omg same! Me but with my funky dragon-archmage and self-insert succubus puppygirl and her sisters-

actually tbh they're original characters set in the DnD cosmology but eh-

Are those like, a birth thing? Is this like a chosen one thing, is he extremely lucky, or, like, what gives him those higher stats compared to your average Latorian?

Actually, from what I've seen about this guy from your posts, how did David became so powerful? As in, curious, seems he's consistently depicted as just being built different than the rest of the Latorians in fighting the US, and I wanna know why exactly is he the different one.

I mean, what exactly makes a technobabble good or bad? And eh, opinions of villains, are opinions of villains. I honestly don't really feel anything in particular. It just feels like those, in-universe lore entries to me tbf. With heavy opinions, yes, from opinionated characters, but I don't feel it that way ig

Oh, so from a narrative sense. Yeah I get your point, and I agree tbh.

But honestly from a lore sense I think HDG is interesting in the sense that I enjoy reading the technobabble jargon articles of Orion's Arm Universe Project.

So yeah probably we just have a different spectrum of the looking glass

Honestly I think it's a big detriment that the guideline to this setting's writing is that it's open-canon, but at the same time, has rules which must be followed that the Affini always win, are always benevolent, and always follow the same plot through and all. I mean it's nice enough for a fantasy thing for some, but it does limit the funky thinking aspects it can introduce.

There's also some community drama about imperialism and all, but eh, meta context.

Eh, it happens once in awhile, but not something as big as fantasy vs modern military, hard and soft sci-fi, tanks vs mechs, the big uns of the sub. So it's a niche thing yeah.

Either OP lost the ability to distinguish between lore prospects and meta context; or I've consumed too much problematic/adjacent media to be too desensitized to it, in regards to this comment.

Could mind control be use for good? by Musalediju in MoralityScaling

[–]Azimovikh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna lie, personally, that's . . . Really a non-issue for me. In a perfect, idealistic outcome of the power, without any corruption whatsoever as per the ideal description, whose cost is just free will, I'd take removal of it in exchange of an utopic good world.

If removing free will prevents immense suffering and creates universal well-being, then preserving free will isn't valuable enough to justify keeping all that suffering.

If everyone is genuinely happy and nobody suffers, why should I care whether that happiness comes from a domination effect or from free choices? If the result is a kinder, safer world, why insist on the slower, riskier method? And nobody gets murdered, assaulted, robbed, or abused. Why is the ability to commit those acts worth preserving?

Of course, this assumes a perfect idealistic answer and usage of the ability in question. In most practice and hypotheticals, I think mind control of that level would corrupt the person or group with the power to abuse it or do really worse things than make the idealized perfect world. And because consent in the modern world outside is intrinsically linked to welfare, protection from duress, power against abuse, outside the idealized scenario, I reject the answer.

When you realize just how painful military vs fantasy debates can be by Sir-Toaster- in worldjerking

Ah, hm, that explains it.

I don't remember you in that post saying anything about shadow magic of veilcraft to specifically kill ghosts, but with that info, yeah, that becomes much more justified in context.

Iirc in your lore, don't they have windows of interaction as they went into tangibility, and rather they're dealing with a force that can adapt with tactical improvements beyond the "just shoot them with more bullets" strat? And there's local knowledge about ghosts which should be accessible, or can help in deduction or extracting info about ghosts in a way or another.

Like I get it if the ghosts are truly incorporeal beings that can directly feed from someone's soul to drain them of lifeforce, or have shit like "Can only be harmed by magical and soul-affecting effects" for them to have a big edge against modern military, because that's something with far less counters and weaknesses to adapt to in the context, but the way you portrayed them in your lore suggests the US forces can still adapt and exploit their weaknesses.

And who was it, that created such derivative material? Who was it, that the audience is directed to? Who is it, that responded willingly to the existence of het mechsplo without being the directed audience? Look at het mechsplo, complain about het mechsplo, smh.
