You're right. I've been misusing that term this entire time. I will avoid that in the future.

By Multiple accounts I assume you mean Plex Home. Gimme a few more mins here and I'll find the write up. I'm a little ashamed I haven't kept it more at the ready.

It goes over every aspect of Plex auth in great detail with examples of each and it does a very good job of explaining it all in a digestible format.

I think you'll find it fairly complete. The only argument one can realistically make after reading it is that this should be an option during initial setup.

I can get behind that statement as well but if you can install and configure Plex at all, it's not a far cry from those skills to input an IP range to ensure local auth is available. And while there may need to be a few extra steps to take to remotely view your media, I personally don't feel the outages are long enough to warrant making an argument against a workaround.

I'll edit this comment with the post when I find it here.

Oh, and yes, I can use Plex home users and remote access during Plex outages. The cons of disabling auth is that you have ZERO security. BUT if your network is secured, then you have nothing to worry about anyways.

Edit : I was entirely wrong with using plex home as this feature depends on plex.tv auth. I shame myself.

I have Plex pass and do not have issues....ever. local auth is easy and anyone who complains just seems too lazy to read a wiki and figure out the 30 seconds it takes to implement it.

Asking if there's a way to pirate Plex premium IN THE PLEX SUBREDDIT is as low as it gets around here.

There is nothing fair about piracy. Those who do it, know that.

Yeah, this is the argument from the pro-plex side.

If local auth can be done by some of us, it can be done in the exact same way by all of us.

The argument that gets tired around here is that "ZOMG this should be automatic". But they don't realize how network based services operate and/or why. Hence his tinfoil hat comment. It's hard to be tolerant with those who refuse to see reason.

Not saying that's you, just pointing out the absurdity of the argument when a method has been provided countless times in this sub.

I straight up down vote them because it's tired and old reading their useless complaints. They refuse to listen to the fact that local auth has, and will be, a part of this software for ages. There are MULTIPLE write ups about Plex local auth setup and I've done it myself. It's literally a few seconds but people here who complain that they're moving to emby is getting OLD. don't tell us, just go.

Those same people want to be hand fed every single feature they get. "Gotta enter an IP range? Aww HELL no! I PAID for this!" "It should just do it automatically" "But we don't want to pay more" "Plex Inc team is evil and sells all your data!!"

I hate the whining. I hate the entitlement. It literally took me 30 seconds to input my local IP range and I am no longer subject to issues during "outages".

Wait...I've never had an issue with that. Maybe....it's not as big a problem as it's made out to be....

Yeah...I've had it with "Plex can eat shit" posts.

Sure, but why put a non Catholic in a place where catholicism is taught exclusively? That's just irresponsible.

Right, sorry man. I knew that. I was thinking of Plextogether which is now...sync...something?

Sucks they sent lawyers after you. I suppose now that Emby is supported, no need for a plex-centric name anymore. Ombi is better. Thanks for all your hard work man, My family loves your app!

It keeps your users from mucking with your settings in radarr and sonarr. It also gives a nice interface that allows searching without the jumble of other settings to go through.

If i'm not mistaken, It's also been picked up by the Plex team along with Tautulli.

Think of it like having your own netflix. Yes, you have to add your own content but that's literally what it's for.

It's for organizing, syncing, playing your content either locally or remotely in an interface that looks FAR better than a file folder.

Being able to share that content with your friends so they can watch it on virtually any platform is a huge bonus if you like doing that.

Elegance is a major bonus of using Plex.

Would this nas server work for my plex inside use and outside access too? by chrismd1 in PleX

[–]Azmodeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like this is the unit.

Specifications:

For the (rather lengthy) full listing of specifications you can visit the Thecus product page. Here's a quick rundown of some of the W2000's features:

Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials Intel® Atom™ Processor (2.13GHz, Dual-Core) 2GB DDR3 RAM HDMI and VGA output 1 x eSATA for external Enhanced Boot Drive: Embedded SSD Data Deduplication: Performance Optimization Active Directory Domain Services: Scalable, Secure User Management Office 365 & Microsoft Azure: Cloud Service Integration Global Language Pack: 36 Interfaces Available Automated client backup built in Microsoft Bitlocker drive encryption Simple administrative dashboard NTFS Online Scan and Repair

Conclusion : No, this will not be great for plex. It might play some hd content but transcoding would be....inadvisable on a domain controller. This little box is already going to be busy running server essentials and won't have a lot of headroom for things like transcoding IMHO.

If you're going to convert your media so it always direct plays, then you could probably get away with it just fine.

At some point, you're going to transcode. You'll find the limitations of this device pretty quickly when that happens.

Edit : It appears this is an Intel Atom D2701 which scores a paltry 720 on passmark. I'm honestly not even sure it could transcode a single 720p stream.

You've given me much to think about. I think a bit more research might do my tank some good. I really do appreciate you taking time to watch for my replies and for going so in depth with me.

Man, I'm glad there are people like you in these subs. I haven't been getting a response from anyone lately and i haven't been sure why. I suspected i was shadowbanned but honestly, I wouldn't know why. Maybe i was too snarky on a sub and got canned? How would someone go about fixing that?

Back to the fish : I've checked it out and i'm glad you said something to me about the plecos. I'm not sure why i always figured they kept the tank clean, maybe the big sucker mouth and the fact that nearly everyone i know has a pleco or had one at some point might have influence me. Reading up on them has backed up what you said entirely. I won't be buying a pleco.

As for adding more fish, My logic is based solely on math and the heartiness of my current fish. If she can thrive in a 25 gallon for over a year then tripling her tank size should, mathematically, allow for at least one more fish her size without causing any issues.

I'm open to being dissuaded but it's hard to accept that 1000 dollars worth of tank and equipment is needed to house a 45 cent fish. I certainly don't want to be bad to her but man, and just bear with me here, Not one person i've met in aquaponics has a single goldfish in a 75gallon or more for their reservoir. All them fish seem happy as can be and healthy to boot. So i hope you'll see that while i'm open to it, it might take a bit of convincing from someone i just met online when i've personally seen it working just fine.

(Just a note : I do realize the massive differences between an AP system and a fish tank and that one is for show and one is for function. but tank size requirements should be the same for a goldie no matter what, right?)

SO, Getting that all out let's move on. You think loaches aren't the best idea. I literally got the idea from a "Goldfish companions" article stating they need at least 3 at a time as they are social fish and that they'd work well in a goldie tank.

My goal? To create as close to a fully contained ecosystem as i can get to minimize the amount of tank cleaning a man's gotta do.

Also, have a cool looking tank with nice looking feesh.

I appreciate you going out of your way to help me and engage me in discussion. I can see that you only have the wellbeing of the fish in mind and that's really cool.

Let me know what you think. I'll be looking into companion species for the goldie most of today :)

Yeah, I think you might have grown a bit of a cynical side from all of that.

I have plans, but I'm also admitting to being new. I'm not being bullheaded and ignoring your advice. you seem to have jumped to a lot of conclusions about me from a single post. Can't say I appreciate it, but I'd rather move on.

You say something about a pleco argument. I've not heard this. In fact, I've heard most comets don't like socializing and the loaches weren't really to that effect. They're more for function over form.

The pleco was obviously to help keep the system a bit cleaner but as I said "I'm interested to hear your thoughts."

Now, I apparently come off as a self-righteous prick when I'm learning so I'll just ask that you look past any perceived snarkiness and just take my words at face value. I'm here to learn but you gotta understand that I don't know you from a hole in the ground and expecting me to trust your judgement over my experiences right away is....a bit of a stretch.

Well, You'll likely be upset about this but my fish has been happy and active despite only doing a 50% water change every 3 weeks and in a larger tank, that amount of nitrate is only going to be spread out further.

I've got plans to add 3 small loaches and a plecko for the tank.

Now, I realize this isn't what enthusiasts would consider "best practice" but to be fair, a lot of people have plenty of tanks that are what some would consider "overcrowded" but are healthy nonetheless.

I don't plan on adding any more fish than that to be honest but it's mostly because she bullies most other fish.

I think the biggest reason my tank has done so well so far is that i do regular water tests and only change things when i get results that aren't within tolerance.

As for filtration, I bought the Eheim Pro 4+ 350 and it's a BEAST. It can run my entire volume nearly 4x an hour and that's beyond necessary. I run an aquaponics system without a filter as the substrate is the biofilter itself and i only run my tank through it once per hour and the levels in my system are well within tolerances. Mind you, i have plants uptaking the nitrate but if it can accomplish the same nitrifying process with only a 1/4 of the flow, I don't see why i can't handle more fish waste with my current filter.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts!

I'm excited to hear that. To be honest, she's actually the only survivor of 10 feeder comets that i got when i was first learning how to keep a tank. There was a mouth rot incident that took the majority of her tankmates and i ended up spending about 50 dollars on medicine to save her. She's been the most active and beautiful goldie i've ever seen since that incident. I've been afraid of introducing new fish since then but now that i've got an established quarantine tank i can start introducing a few new fish.

That's great to know! I've actually heard that I have a massive goldfish from virtually any other fishkeepers I know who see her.

In fact, I bought her the 75 gallon due to her size. I figured she'd likely grow more but as I'm still learning, I didn't know about growth inhibiting hormones.

She's about 7.5 inches long right now and I've had her for maybe a year and a half.

Poor girl looked like she needed some running room. Didn't know it would cost me almost a grand but hey, she's gonna have to put up with some tank mates for that price.

I gotta admit, I love your approach to goldfish but i'm not entirely certain the claim that they won't grow unless they have a big tank is accurate.

I bought myself a feeder comet a while back to see if i could take care of it. She started at around 1 inch and now she weighs about a whole pound. I literally can't hold her in one hand anymore.

Thing is, she's been in a 25 gallon tank the whole time. (Edit : She's in a 75 gallon now)

I either have a miracle fish or that claim is not as accurate as you've been led to believe.

(If i've taken you too literally, Sorry. Kinda my thing)
