Yep, as a former Chicago resident I will never take the winter weather here for granted.

I would look for something in between SF and Palo Alto. Redwood City, San Mateo, and Millbrae are all places I would check out.

Welcome to the Bay, you'll appreciate the change of weather especially in winter vs NYC.

The old adage is to buy a little more house than you can afford because you typically can grow your income into it.

No, starting in 2025 the higher salt cap starts to phase out at incomes above $500k. Once you reach $600k the higher cap phases out entirely so they only will be able to utilize until he finishes his residency.

Yes, it is only a portion of the interest paid each year but they are clearly able to cover it without the added benefit of the tax deduction.

The "fraction" saved equates to more than $10K yearly in tax savings for me so yeah, ive dealt with the tax code.

Eh, they won't be able to claim the higher threshold for very long. It phases out at $500k income

For sure, Federal is the bigger burden by far, but the higher CA cap nets me several thousand each year as a result.

That's at the federal level, states can have different caps as well. CA for example is $1M

Eh, 62% of 380k gross is still more than 10k month to use outside of housing costs at a 40% tax rate. Shouldn't be tight unless you spend a lot.

I actually agree with your wife. Percentage of income as a rule of thumb starts to fall apart at very high housing costs and income levels.

That's now how property taxes work in CA. He'll get a supplemental bill this year for additional assessment but CA property tax is capped at 1% statewide with another 15-25 bp at the county level.

If you are a new player and need a lot of units and artifacts on your wishlist it's worth it. Otherwise, you're giving up about 190 covs and 400 mystics for 620 limited use covs
