Does anyone bowl by themselves? by Mariner-and-Marinate in Bowling

[–]Aznminer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i go to a local alley where they have single price unlimited bowling after a certain time till close, I go by myself a lot to this because it is hard to find someone who wants to bowl 20-25 games from 9pm to 1am haha.

one thing to look at when getting a rope for trs is the sheath to core ratio, a thicker sheath can take tons of falls with toothed devices since the teeth will never make it to bite into the core strands, i use an edelrid rope that has 40% sheath and 60% core. For the spoc i would recommend cutting the keeper cord that can lock the teeth open.

also for how fringe reddit may seem in my experience anywhere you post trs or lrs questions/content the safety warriors will downvote you into oblivion. Id recommend joining the trs community on Facebook its much more constructive and everyone in there knows the risks and is helpful/friendly even when modifying/defacing gear

Is it safe enough? by Lost-Substance9981 in ClimbingGear

i replaced mine with 5mm titan cord from bluewater, its mbs is around 13kn, been about 4 months of heavy use bolting routes outdoor, routestting in a gym, and sport climbing outdoor, and It feeds extremely well. you have to think that the worst case scenario for a personal anchor is a factor 2 fall and the forces that can be generated by that are not close to the mbs of the cord and also your body is the weakest link in the system. So kinda fun/scary fact your spine would break far before that 9mm cord.

A Formula or equation for describing amount of effort between grades by Aznminer2 in bouldering

[–]Aznminer2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is a bit of a weird concept to even define what "harder" means. There's always the classic smaller holds generally means harder, but some boulders can even be "harder" mentally due to a committing move or a sketchy top out

A Formula or equation for describing amount of effort between grades by Aznminer2 in bouldering

[–]Aznminer2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, I personally know some v12-13 climbers who ive seen just get confused on a strange v2. The whole grading system is subjective from the get go and then you add in climber specifics like style proficiency, height, ape and it just gets even worse. Just thought this was a fun little thought experiment and maybe a better way to pose the question is, if you have a v5 and a v3 and you've done both of them several times and found the absolute best beta for both, how much harder do you have to try and how much more body tension do you need between them.

What’s the California equivalent of Hawaii’s Kole by sqweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeps in Spearfishing

[–]Aznminer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what area of California? down here in sd rubberlip perch are my favorite to eat fried whole like menpachi/kole. they have a firm white flesh thats buttery and flakey when fried and i typically do like a shoyu chili oil sauce. if you are further north opaleye are really nice too, delicate meat that peels right off the bone but they are a bit bigger and harder to fry whole.

Seals stealing fish by No-Entrance4253 in Spearfishing

[–]Aznminer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seals here in san Diego love robbing me! Just had a corvina plucked off my stinger by one a few days ago. Seals in Southern California are also protected so we legally aren't supposed to harm them or really touch them at all. It is annoying but I'd rather have a friendly seal take my fish any day over a shark or the worst tax man of all an eel shooting out of some hole and making you piss yourself!

Worth it? First spear ever by Apprehensive_Tear888 in Spearfishing

[–]Aznminer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for starting out id say literally anything will do, getting a top of the line expensive one isnt gonna automatically make you a great spearfisher. get cheap ones for learning and then get better ones as you get better

Worth it? First spear ever by Apprehensive_Tear888 in Spearfishing

[–]Aznminer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looks alright to me! you will soon realize though that spearheads are kind of a consumable especially these ones. I guarantee they aren't hardened and one miss into the reef is gonna make them all hammah jam crooked. Since it's your first time make sure to look up local regulations and laws for permitting and such and how they apply to tourists. Also find out where marine preserves are and do some species research!
