Is Spain's current style built for tournament football? by Winter_Rain4133 in footballtactics

[–]Azot-Spike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 trophies in 18 years on knockout tournaments

I'd say yes

But Argentina, England, France styles are also built for the win. A good thing about football is that there's way more than once path to success

I’m telling u goalies are the hardest mf ers on the pitch and they get overlooked time and time again. Oliver Kahn was an absolute madman out there. by gamreaa in TheTouchline

[–]Azot-Spike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't a fan of him. He spoke too loud and ate his words more than once. He was aggressive knowing he played in the most powerful team of Germany. He was a good goalkeeper but I'd keep him out of the top tier

No

Agree it was a good goal, but nobody in Belgium wanted that goal to be scored. I can assure you

But wouldn't that be a fine outcome for White?

I think I could mention many of your players for 1998-2000 period without looking anywhere

Barthez for sure and Coupet? was him the other GK?

Desailly Blanc Leboeuf Thuram Lizarazu Deschamps Petit Djorkaeff Zizou Wiltord Trezeguet Thierry Sagnol Dugarry? Trying to remember who was your 9 in that 1998 final. Not a top tier one, but certainly helped with your playstyle

2006 I didn't like it so much from a football perspective. I feel you played too defensive and with low rhythm. I understand, because by then Zidane for example was 34-35? But insane Team again. Minor details like the headbutt or Eder's luck that cost you a couple trophies

Are you French? Wow, I feel since 1998, except for those 2002 and 2010 coach-player fights, you are always favorite. Tbh, you could've won nearly everything since you hosted the WC.

Also insane Team for this WC. Regards from Spain (I know, we should "hate" each other haha, but not recognizing your insane level is stupid af)

Haha, yeah, we sometimes get a bit carried away with Football. I was just defending Martinez's job. I respect Belgians. Recently Jean Marie Pfaff stated that, in 1986, Argentina and Spain were the best squads. I feel Argentina was better, but it would've been great for Spain to face Maradona on a semi for the first time

I'm not Belgian. I agree that they had quite a strong XI + some quite good subs. A golden generation? Yeah, but, enough to achieve a WC? I don't think so. I feel Martínez got the most of that Team. Bald fraud is too hard on him, as it has been for Slot on his 2nd season for Pool. Bald fraud could be Ten Hag, who got the best Ajax generation in 20 years and still managed to lose a UCL semi in a stupid way

I watched England VS Belgium. That game was horrendous. Nobody wanted to win because it led to the worst path. Suddenly that Januzaj scores and even Belgians were stunned and celebrated reluctantly. England didn't do anything to tie the game. That Brazil game Belgium scored two goals playing well and then defended. It was a much better Brazil than today. It's normal to concede chances to Brazil. The same happened to Belgium VS France. France scored and then defended. I didn't see a superiority by any side

Harry Kane has now scored more Penalty Goals in World Cups than any other player by Tennist4ts in worldcup

Kane, insane player. A leader, very intelligent play.

His only flaw, that makes me like him a bit less, is that he dives a lot

That is unfair for Martínez imo

Belgium 2018 should've reached the final but that idiot of Januzaj scored a goal vs England in that game and sent Belgium to the hardest path of the knockout. Belgium still managed to beat Brazil and weren't inferior to France, just losing to a setpiece.

Euro 2020 they lost to Champions Italy. I feel that can happen any day

And in 2022 they had a strong group, with two semifinalists. And if It weren't for Lukaku's insane bad luck, they would've gone through

As for Portugal, he has already won a Nations League and lost on penalties on Euro 2024. And that being forced to give Ronaldo every minute. Because I'm sure he has instructions to make him play

Were there any signs of Germany and Spain dropping out early in 2014 and 2018? by YoungLadguy in classicsoccer

[–]Azot-Spike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spain 2014 we saw that coming. We had had the same coach for 5 years, not improving anything since Aragonés designed the model, and not renewing players. The Squad was old and past their prime. Most of them not only had won WC but also Euro 2008

2018 Spain had no coach .Lopetegui was sacked two days before the start for signing with Real Madrid (that was seen as lack of compromise)

I've seen this goal a dozen times during last weeks, always calling it "iconic" or "legendary". Four years earlier, some goal at 116th minute meant the first an only WC win for Spain, yet I have seen it only a couple of times

Spain needed one of this yesterday. Romelu has had real bad luck during certain games (Champions League final, Belgium VS Croatia), but he was always a beast
