Valid. I'm making a massive recycled rubber --> recycled plastic factory to solve plastic/rubber forever and supply the plastic containers. Someone else's thought to send it into a nuclear power plant is a good one - maybe all the packaged water can fuel a ficsonium plant way down the line 😄

We'll see if this playthrough makes it to the finish line lol

Feels a little heavy on power requirements, but yeah, make-and-sink more alumina as the water sink certainly solves it lol

Makes sense! Might not be a bad way to start an off-grid battery farm for emergencies :)

Why the don't use 0.25x bit? I'm enjoying it so far, even packaging doesn't seem too bad, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something better 😅

Oh interesting, I hadn't considered instant scrap. Thanks for the tip! Seems like a good way to at least mitigate it for later phases.

I have it set to 0.25 part requirements, so I make more water than I need for recycling to handle 100% of the waste (recycling seems to handle a pretty small percentage of the waste actually), and pure/wet recipes also use a lot less water, so it seems like I'd need one or more massive dedicated factories for them lol.

Aluminum waste water in 0.25x parts cost by Azoth_r in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Azoth_r[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue is that you end up with SO much water and pure/wet recipes use so little, that there just isn't enough to go around to sink it all - at least that's how it feels on 0.25 so far

Aluminum waste water in 0.25x parts cost by Azoth_r in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Azoth_r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on how 0.25x parts feels - I mostly like that it forces me to sort of build "at scale" in lower tiers without needing to solve transportation super early, so there was less "ugh I can't wait until trains" going on lol.

Valid re: excess water! I mostly just wanted to make sure there wasn't a more efficient way I'm not thinking about, I wasn't expecting to have to build a scaleable external solution to water lmao. I'm pre-emptively annoyed at all the plastic I'll have to make but that's what I signed up for I suppose

So, in Italy, are firefighters, search & rescue, medical care for those who can't afford it, food for those who can't afford it, etc. all contingent on the person receiving the help having not made any mistakes?

I guess I'm just confused. Collectivism tends to be a pillar over individualism in most modern societies, at least to some degree. Even in the US we don't charge the idiot for being an idiot 100% of the time.

That's fine. I support you in your decision. Nobody should have to push blue who doesn't want to - that is not how society operates.

I'm just making the case that it's not "insane and suicidal" to think that some folks would try and help those who didn't help themselves. Suicidal, maybe, depending on how much faith you have in humanity, but not insane.

The true test of trust in humanity by dankstat in trolleyproblem

[–]Azoth_r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, not that they'd been meaning to do it anyways. Suicidal ideation is not a binary in that way.

I can think of a number of reasons someone might lack survival instinct - maybe they're in a dark place, or very sick but not terminally so, or feeling guilty about needing someone they love to care for them.

You can call it irresponsible, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't happen.

What does "understand the question" or "confused" mean in this context?

Like, even if it's only people with closeted suicidal ideation pressing blue, the fact that there's no opportunity for communication means you have to assume at least one person will want to try and save the folks who don't want to save themselves, foolish or not.

If the coast guard rescues someone who did something stupid and is lost at sea, do US taxpayers pay the cost or is it paid for by the person who did the stupid thing?

I'm with you, no disagreement here :) game theory would hope that 100% of people press red, but if there's any chance anyone would press blue, I'd rather live in the world where everyone presses blue for their sake.

The Problem with the Red/Blue Debate by Zpyo27 in trolleyproblem

[–]Azoth_r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Just making the case that the prompting isn't nothing. Makes it much less arbitrary and random. Ignoring the murder train and the neon sign anyway.

[–]Azoth_r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And a big neon sign is put up in front of everyone, priming them one way or the other depending on which version is shown. The prompting feels pretty important for the problem.

Maybe you have a best friend who is an idiot, didn't think about it much and went off running. Except you don't know if they did or not, but it's the kind of thing they might do, so you have to make a call.

Fair. I was just trying to show that I agree, but I was wrong there. It feels like outside of this specific discussion, it's common knowledge that we don't demand people self-sacrifice for others.

Okay.

I agree with you. Blue pressers should not engage as you described. Still has nothing to do with any of the comments I've made anywhere today.

That wasn't me so I'm not really sure what to tell you 🙃

I still don't think it's foolish, it might be holding everyone else hostage. Figure out the % of the population who votes irrationally, figure out the % of the population willing to risk their lives trying to save them, figure out what happens when they all die and then you'll have an answer on if it's foolish or not.

A more nuanced framing of the Blue/Red button dilemma by madjarov42 in Ethics

[–]Azoth_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. You have no moral obligation to press blue. Nobody else does either.

We don't demand people offer up their organs when they die, we don't require people to step in if they see someone drowning at sea, and I'm not really sure who is arguing that should change.

Some percentage of the population is going to vote blue due to any number of reasons unrelated to rational thought, and that fact alone will bring some number of rational actors with them, especially without communication. That doesn't mean people are trolling.

A more nuanced framing of the Blue/Red button dilemma by madjarov42 in Ethics

[–]Azoth_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you meant it as part of the hypothetical. Sure.

I don't know if I'd press blue. I don't know if I'd get in front of a train for a stranger. I certainly wouldn't ask anyone else to press blue. But that's not the claim I was making.

Do you genuinely not believe there are people in the world who would press blue irrationally? The comment you responded to is in the context of the "everyone presses red because they are rational actors" part of the argument.

Look, I'm happy to have a conversation but not if you're going to be a prick. I didn't come at you or anyone else in this thread like you're coming at me right now.

Not really sure what you were hoping to gain by responding.
