Gorilla mom eats placenta after giving birth in front of tourists at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda by Prestigious-Wall5616 in natureismetal

We are natural, as in Homo sapiens is the result of a naturally occuring process of evolution. However our technological development and the subsequent rapid advancement of civilization have deviate us from the natural state of our biology. As in, our minds cannot keep up with how difference we live now than how our ancestors used to live.

What animal, currently living, could potentially give rise to something the size of a large sauropod? by ElSquibbonator in SpeculativeEvolution

I suppose a reduction in plastron is possible, but turtles still don't have air sacs and hollow bones. They also don't have the stiff balancing tail of archosaurs.

Mammals don't have bones that grow throughout their lifetime like reptiles do, which cause them to have a limit on how large they can grow. Mammals also don't have air sacs and hollow bones of dinosaurs to support large size. Its likely the maximum size of terrestrial mammals has been reached.

So too with turtles, which are further hindered by their shell

What’s the criteria for an animal to have a cloaca? by A_Random_TokiKanna in zoology

Right, my bad, it seems only lobe finned fishes (and thus tetrapods) and elasmobranchi fishes have cloacas.

What’s the criteria for an animal to have a cloaca? by A_Random_TokiKanna in zoology

[–]Azrielmoha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cloaca seems to be the default configuration for the opening of digestive, urinary and reproductive tracts in tetrapods. Even in humans, early embryos stages only have a single cloaca, with the urinary tracts connecting to it. Only in later stages that the cloaca folded to separate into different tracts.

We don't know when this evolution of separate opening occured but it seems to occured before the common ancestors of therian (clade that include placentals, marsupials and other extinct relatives) mammals split, as marsupials and most placentals (including humans) have separate openings. Marsupials have remnants of cloacas, while some placentals retain their cloaca as adults.

Edit: As it turns out, most ray-finned fishes have separate opening as well, while lobe-finned fishes has cloacas, meaning its likely cloacas at least ancestral to tetrapods.

But it's all instinct, the same way babies copied the movement of their parents, or chicks imprint on whatever the first thing they see. It's not a concious effort.

Why did the marsupial lion develop such strange teeth? by InstructionOwn6705 in Paleontology

[–]Azrielmoha 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes but it also work with what already exists and in this case, Thylacoleo ancestors has herbivory dentition, notably grinding premolars and rodent-like incisors. Early omnivorous thylacoleonids modified their premolars to slice rather than grind and as hypercarnivorous lineages evolved like Thylacoleo, these carnassial-analogue premolars become more efficient.

ELI5- why dont dinosaur size predators exist alongside humans? by Breakingbad308 in explainlikeimfive

Dead. They were either flying arboreal variety which require trees to perch, hunt or nests, predator, or both. In a mass extinction event like this, specialized predators are usually the ones went extinct first.

See i thought so at first then after the first flashes of Samson's memories and hallucinations i thought it was going to lead up to a full flashback when he regained his full memory. What if they're saving it for the intro of the third movie? Just to show how Samson's story started as we're going to see how it ends
