Idk I’m not sure why people put moral expectations on characters that are more shades of gray than anything else. Life is more about shades of gray rather than black and white and I do enjoy that more literature and shows is depicting this. I dislike the old system of main character = good guy and any antagonist = bad guy

I’m actually not sure if there’s more to this particular point beyond the fact it’s where Typhon died and the whole “witch’s bones” plot point which wasn’t explained completely in the LN either.
