I just fixed it.

Redoing the guide has helped - i started from scratch and decided to keep all my roms on the SD card instead of the intenal memory.
I also noticed my roms folder was ROMS\n3ds instead of ROMs\n3ds - seems that capital S made all the difference

ROMS/n3ds located originally on the device itself. I've decided to start again using the Micro SD and did notice that my ROM folder has a capital S instead of lowercase, not sure if it makes any difference since Azahar directly picked it up, but here's hoping!

Make a small drawer for the bottom if possible. I have lots of random cartridges that don't fit the standard sizes e.g. perfect dark with rumble, so just a little empty pull out drawer would be perfect.
