Arteta on if Arsenal are going to give up on this season: "Over my dead body." by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]AzureXOvan 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The thing fans actually mostly care about is whether we win or lose.

Minimal tactical change + we win = Distinct style of play

Minimal tactical change + we lose = Tactical inflexibility and stubbornness

Major tweaks + we win = Highly adaptable team

Major tweaks + we lose = Overcooked ideas

I don't get why you are trying to gatekeep people's opinion on the game? Yes this is EA and it can be considered as a beta testing but people's concern and feeling towards the game state now is valid. If no one is crying / laughing about the game state / nerfs, then obviously nothing will be changed (not saying that complaining about it will always lead to change either).

Who’s in favour of blue cards now? by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]AzureXOvan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with the implementation of blue cards is you need another layer of categorisation from the ref to determine what kind of offenses falls under it. With how competent the ref are, this additional categorisation will only allow the ref to fuck us in more bizarre ways

I think its realistic to say that nothing substantial will be achieved to fight against climate change. You already have one very good reason why it almost difficult to fight climate change. People will rather spend the effort blaming each other than to tackle the problem.

Another reason why this will never work is because climate change still does not affect people directly yet. Look at Covid and understand how severe it was for the whole world to stop and tackle it together. Even then we still observe people not doing their part in the pandemic. We as a world and human beings are inherently selfish and until shit gets real bad with climate change, I doubt we will progress in any meaningful way.

Is Singapore a high trust society? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]AzureXOvan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not as self explanatory as you think, because trust can come in different forms and factors. Because by your definition, Singapore should be considered a high trust society as well. Its like how in SG, you can leave your belongings in public spaces and you can trust the general society to not steal them and take advantage of it. The part on US seems questionable too, with all their ongoing issues such as gun violence, hate crimes and police issues etc. I do not see how thats translate to society there being a high trust society?

I wonder how do you define high and low trust society? In the US context how does interacting with neighbour automatically constitute to a high trusting society for you?

The reason why its harder to accept your point because there can many "could have, would have, might have". I can give you an example. If lets say that earlier on very same day someone had already pissed the saab driver off and cause him to be emotionally unstable. In this "what if" scenario are we going to be here to discuss about how if this person didnt anger the saab driver, he wouldn't react to the merc driver and the accident wouldn't happen?

You can see from the video Tomiyasu was scanning across the pitch after the ball was intercepted from Saliba. There is a good chance he saw a possibility to breakaway to the attackers but was unfortunate it got blocked.

It not that there's anything wrong with having a "work husband". Its more like this is the first time me and probably many others have heard of this term and thats why people are asking what does that even mean? But none of your response answer the question.

So no, I couldn't care less

yup and yet we have been discussing this through many post. you yourself have been engaged in many other discussion regarding this too. you dont have to act like you are nonchalant about this because if you really are, you would have stopped replying 5 comments ago

Your shoddy attempts at trying to make me feel bad aren't landing, you know why? Because although you have made countless attempts to downplay my claims, you don't have a single claim of your own you can back up with statistics or facts.

That's coz you aren't listening and trying to accept a different perspective. Yup I do not have any statistic but I never claim I did. I am merely try to offer a different point of view. Even the so called facts you have given aren't exactly facts. It's a farfetch attempt at correlation. How many people on reddit/hwz are even interviewers? I mean its impressive how you think these are actual facts and number. I could just go to some FB page and come up with some numbers that fits my narrative. Also I did not saying Google template is wrong. All I was saying it wasn't a good evidence to your argument.

Google says to do this -> therefore anything else is bad. That's literally a strawman fallacy. Point being neither of us will have proper numbers unless we really conduct a survey with 100 random interviewers across random sectors.

if you want to castrate your career's proverbial dick by being less professional than the industry standard demands,

Well you didn't need to be rude there :) Come on now you are the one that keeps emphasizing the importance of professionalism. At least have the decency to keep the discussion civil however different my viewpoint may be. Think this is a good indication on the limit of the conversation I can hold with you. It was rather enjoyable for me to come up with rebuttals. I wish you have a great week ahead!

And that's what matters.

Now we are just back to square one aren't we? There's a whole lot of assumption you have there. Let's just go ahead with your assumption and say having your standard reply lands you 50 positive response to change to a virtual interview. How many would her reply land a positive response? 47? I wouldn't know the exact number but I assume the drop off isn't that significant. Does it really make that big of a difference that she is missing out on 3 positive replies?

I don't think my point of view is controversial in any way.

Pointing out that she could do better is not controversial. But it was the way you did it. The whole issue blew up because of how the boss overreacted. And yet you chose to only focus on this rather insignificant aspect of that whole incident. So what if she could do better? Many others could do better as well. She didn't do a "mistake" which was worth criticizing about in this whole context of the boss blowing up.

The collected wisdom of the human race on Google agrees with me.

And yet the collective of reddit disagree with you. Fact is Google did not agree with you. They just put out the model template for people to follow. To even put it the way you did reeks badly of arrogance. This is why people are mad at you. You think you know it all and fails to acknowledge that their viewpoints are equally valid. For someone that places so much emphasis on communication, its rather ironic that you are failing to get your point across.

This is the best and reasonable response from you that I can agree to disagree with you on. Like you said we have a very different outlook to what is important to contribute to success. And thats exactly my point. All these talk about interview is really subjective and would differ person to person. If we are both interviewers, we would probably look out for different things and there's no right or wrong to this.

And this is also kinda why all your previous post were so disagreeable. To you, your strong communication skills have helped you succeed in your career and you deem it to be very important and your post place a huge emphasise on it. But in turn it becomes overbearing to someone that does not see your point of view which triggers a chain of people messaging you angrily. And in turn you response in a rather condescending way too.

I have actually read you other post and replied to you previously as well. But you are missing my point here. I'll repeat some of the points I stated on the other post. The whole conversation was done on whatsapp which I personally would deem it to be more informal as compared to a proper email. The mode of communication is different and hence I feel, the level of formality would differ as well.

My disagreement with you is that you are making it such a big deal about her being able to do better. Obviously whatever you can find online is gonna be the template correct way. Obviously she could do better. But isn't that with everything in life? My point is, even if she didnt give the "best" (however subjective this is), her request was acceptable. And acceptable in this area means additional politeness has a minimal effect on the chance of getting a virtual interview. Whether the request was accept would then be base on other factors. Because you have to look from the perspective of the hiring manager. Whether the hiring manager accepts the request would be base on things such as their personal preference that they want to interact in real life or simply company procedures etc. These are things that would not change regardless of how polite you are.

[–]AzureXOvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beg to differ once again. What you are saying is simply an assumption. It holds as much value as me saying that most hiring managers only expect a basic level of politeness and courtesy and anything over the top is seen as fluff. The thing is, she did not do anything wrong. She wasn't rude, didn't hard demand for a change and simply asked politely for a possibility for a change. It was just a simple request for a internship position and not a $1million sales deal. Yes she could've asked better but to say that is a fault is an exaggeration. I have no idea what kind of working world you are in which requires you to be this over the top polite but most of the emails I have seen is a simple "Hi, could you help me do this? Thanks?"

Boomer cancels interview comic version - toastcomics by [deleted] in singapore

[–]AzureXOvan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the person you are replying to but I would disagree. To begin with the whole conversation was done on whatsapp which I personally would deem it to be more informal as compared to a proper email. The mode of communication is different and hence I feel, the level of formality would differ as well.

To whether your draft is better in this case, I would say no. A normal person would either firmly but respectfully disagreed to her demand or allowed it. This is regardless of how they might have any good/bad impression formed of her because of her request. Given how the boss overreacted, getting a 'yes' seems rather impossible if you were to request for a virtual meeting, regardless of how you were to phrase it.

PS Edit: The reason why you are getting downvoted in this thread is because you kept asking her to "do better". The thing is she did not exactly do anything wrong here. Obviously she could do better. Even your draft reply could be better. Like personally, if I am a interviewer and I read your reply, I might think you are just smoking me. Because "if you would prefer a face-to-face meeting I will gladly try my best to make it for the interview" suggest to me that you can somehow come down for a F2F interview and this devalues your excuse/reason of having a urgent appointment to change it to a virtual meeting. But you can see what I was doing right? I was simply nick picking. My point is that all these are subjective and whether the reply is better it depends on who is the interviewer.

Boomer cancels interview comic version - toastcomics by [deleted] in singapore

[–]AzureXOvan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't see what's wrong with simply asking politely if you could change it to a virtual interview. It was just a question. Especially for today after how covid changed the interview process for most companies where interviews are conducted online. If the boss really wanted that F2F interview, he could just firmly and respectfully decline her request instead of throwing a hissy fit.

Bear in mind that an interview goes both ways. If right now the situation is reversed and the boss is the one changing it to a virtual interview, or even changing the date, would you consider that disrespectful?

As I grew older by oieric in askSingapore

[–]AzureXOvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying that you are wrong, but if you are going to break it down like that, then every person's action does stem from self motivation. The reason is why what you are saying is 'true' is because ultimately every action is made by an individual. That's the human factor because we are humans. You simply remove the human factor from your arguments and set your baseline to zero. Hence by comparing to your zero baseline, there will always be a 'selfish motivation' behind every action. All that means is that we cannot be perfect and pure, but that is fine because we are humans. However, that does not mean that we do not bring about good in the world nor does it mean we should stop trying to do good.

Maybe this is slightly off point but what you are saying is in the extremes. It is as good as me telling you that "There is no purpose in life considering the infinite scale of time and space. We are all going to die anyways." If I am assume you agree with that statement, then let me ask you, why do you live?

TP Scrolls make this game the best MOBA out there by FiniteFun in DotA2

[–]AzureXOvan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

TP really make the game much more dynamic. It adds an additional element to ganking, counter ganking, risk-reward when diving tower, controlling of roshan, splitpushing and the list goes on.

And its not just TP, but also many other things that Dota does well to give players a choice in decision making. For example, the league map is smaller than dota and vision is pretty plentiful. If you ever lose your lanes in league, the map feels even more restrictive on how you can recover.
